The Sticky Key

I re-found something I had forgotten about. I was typing along in my Mail e-mail program when suddenly everything stuck in caps mode. I had only capitalized one letter with the shift key but it stayed that way throughout the whole sentence. The caps lock was not on and I could not get rid of it. I pounded on the shift key several times in frustration and then the computer made a funny grunt noise. It worked! No more all caps! Then, I remembered. If a key sticks or doesn't work properly, you hit the shift key five times and it unsticks it! Cool?

Virus protection and upgrading

I asked this before but it got buried under a bunch of answers to other things, so I'm asking it again.

I don't have any other virus protection on my eMac, except what came with it and I'm not sure what that is. I'm still using an OS X 10.3.9 and anything I see is for 10.4 or later. Do you guys think I'm okay with this? I've never caught a virus on either of my two Macs that I've had, the other being an iMac OS8, upgraded to an 8.9 eventually. Also, is it possible to upgrade my eMac to anything higher, or do I have to buy a whole new Mac and do I really need to?

I have an awful lot of photos on my eMac and I wonder about running out of room or just having things slow down. I've put a great deal of the files on CDs but, being an artist, they keep accumulating. Besides I like them handy for posting places.

Yippe again!

I'm all installed with my 2 GB of memory and with a new wireless mouse that has a right and left click and a scroll wheel. My Mac guy got rid of tons of old stuff taking up LOTS of memory and everything is bopping along at mega speeds. All for a total of $180! He spent over two hours here playing with things. He installed a little gizmo that makes invisible icons. You can have all kinds of folders on the desktop and the only thing that shows is the text under the folder. The folder doesn't show but it's there. I think it was called Unicon.

Now I just have to get used to this mouse. I've already sworn at it.

Yippee!

I just ordered 2 GB of memory for my little eMac, thanks to encouragement and information from you guys. My Mainley Mac guy had retired but the one who is buying his business directed me to a website, had discovered I had enough room in my eMac to add 2 GB and told me what to buy. GBs are much cheaper than they used to be. It cost me $80 for the two.

When I get it he will come out and install it for me. He's been out before fixing my major goof, quiting the Finder!! I got to see Darwin! Scary.

The original MM guy, Marc is very interested in Eons after I told him about it and may join if he hasn't already. He might show up here, since I raved about our group to him. He does know all things Mac. He's also into music.

Thanks again, guys.

My new printer

Well, I got it, the Epson Artisan 700. I think it's great so far! The hardest part about setting it up was getting it out of the darn box!.It works beautifully! The first test print came out just right. It has a paper tray that holds two sizes of paper at once, letter size and 4 X 6 photo paper. It will also hold legal size but I'd have to take out the letter size one first. I like this tray better. It's underneath the printer instead of in the back with the paper sticking up. Maybe I won't break this one, like I did the other two. This one also has a scanner on it. I haven't tried that part yet. I printed a full letter size picture of one of my mother's watercolor portraits and it printed beautifully. Then I printed a small photo of the cats and it knew exactly what paper to use! Such a smart machine!

I still have ink left over from the old printer, 5 cartridges of colors and 2 black ones. I know they cost me over $100. I didn't realize I had TWO black cartridges and they run $18 apiece. I'm supposed to call Epson with a customer number and get "compensated" for them because they are brand new. I haven't even opened the boxes. I'll do that today and then, I think I will put them on eBay and see if I can sell them!!! Maybe I'll get even more back!

Does anyone need ink before I put them on eBay? They will fit Epson Stylus Photo R200,R220,R300,R320,R340,RX500,RX600 and RX620. For you guys, I will give them away.

Printer problem

Maybe you Mac people can help. If I ask anyone else, they usually direct me to some PC thing. My Epson printer/scanner combo quit on me. I really liked it but it was a refurbished one that I bought from Epson for less than the price of ink. It lasted several years in spite of my breaking the paper tray while assembling it.

I'd like to get a new one. What would you suggest? I don't have a scanner now, either because my old one won't run. It's quite old, I think it runs on Mac OS 9. I can't get it going and the CD installer has disappeared.

I am an artist so would like something that really prints and scan well. I use a lot of my paintings for cards and prints. Epson has one on their site, called Epson Artisan 700 All-in-One Printer. It's $150 with free shipping. Anybody have any ideas?

New browser

I was required to download this browser in order to acces one of my utility accounts. It's called Opera. It seems to be working quickly and beautifully. Has anyone heard of it? I believe it's only for Macs.
