Problems Connecting to Eons
This has been a strange day! Late last night, my DSL quit for about and hour and 1/2. Later, I was able to get on. Then, again today everything seemed to be fine for a while. However earlier this afternoon, I was on Eons composing a message, but when I clicked send, I had been disconnected from Eons and couldn't get back. I could go to yahoo, google, and other sites, but not Eons. When I put in the URL for Eons, I'd get the "page can't be found - check that you typed the correct URL" message.
I contacted other folks through outside email and learned they were getting to Eons. I tried shutting down the browser, shutting down the system, trying a different computer, unplugging the modem to reset it, uninstalling and reinstalling flash 10 on the laptop, etc. I checked with a neighbor and she could get to the Eons site (Same DSL, but uses Windows) I couldn't get on Eons with either of my macs, eMac OS 10.3.9 Flash 9, Firefox, Safari, Opera, SeaMonkey or ibook G4 OS 10.4.11, Firefox or SeaMonkey, Flash 10 during the time period, but when it finally cleared up, I could get on with both machines. However, during that same time period, I could go to other sites.
This has happened before for some lesser known sites, but never lasted as long. I'd talked to the DSL "Help Desk" (actually outside techs - not part of company) who said I needed to get the phone company to put in filters to block the noise. The phone company says they had put in filters. But, that doesn't explain to me why some sites work and some don't. I'd think that it would be all or nothing. Both the phone company and the help desk (not part of the actual DSL provider), by their own admission, are clueless about Macs. Does anyone have an idea about what the problem might be? what I could ask my DSL carriers to check? or what I could check? or what I could say to my DSL providers? No, wait. I think I've got that last one covered.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

DSL loses connections to sites
My problem is that for the past few weeks, I get dropped from Eons regularly and have to sign back in. However, I've noticed lately that the connection to other sites also get broken. Also, Firefox says it can't find a site, but a few minutes later, I might be able to get there. Sometimes, it's quite a while before it can.
I only recently left dial-up behind for DSL through our local phone company. They switched over to new servers almost on the same day that Eons began to have the big list of problems a few weeks ago. That's when these problems began. So, I've been trying to figure out whether the problems have come from Eons glitches, my DSL carrier or something else or a combination.
Last night, after being dropped from Eons over and over, I decided to look at the URL the DSL installer person had me bookmark for troubleshooting. Not having the least idea what I was doing, I looked in the dianostic log and found this entry over and over:
DNS: Unknown host: 1.0.0.127.dnsbugtest.1.0.0.127.in-addr- arpa'
So, I googled it. Apparently, many people have trouble with whatever sends out this message to the servers - it can cause their wireless to shut down or causes them to get disconnected from various sites. However, it seems some folks are still trying to figure out what on their machines is the culprit.
I'm going to add more information to the 1st reply. If any of you have any ideas on what to do to get the problems fixed of automatic disconnect or Firefox not being able to locate a site at first try, I'd appreciate it.

Removing Flash 10
I probably should already know how to do this, but it escapes me for the moment. I need to remove Adobe Flash 10 (OS 10.4.9) and go back to Flash 9. Since Flash is a plug-in to my browser, what would be the steps I need to take?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Finding local file with browser URL
I have a friend who uses Windows who asked me what you key into the URL box in a browser if you want to go to the folder where an html file is stored that you want to view. On windows, you key in c\: and then the name of the folder. (I learned this from him)
I didn't have a clue. When I use my browser to look at a local file, I go to file ---> open file and then navigate to it.
However, is there another way to open an local html file on a Mac? My operating system is old - Mac OS 10.3.9. I know Mac OS 10.5 has a lot of new features.
Just wondering.

Best Method to Back Up with OS 10.4.6
I just got a “previously enjoyed” PowerPC G4 ibook and would like to know the best way to back up in case I need to use the backup to restore everything. It has Mac OS 10.4.6. I’ve done some research and learned that one way is to make a clone of the hard drive to an external harddrive, however, there are conflicting opinions on the best software to use to do this and some information was given about some external harddrives having problems because of the chipset they use.
Is there a way to make a bootable DVD with the necessary items or is making a bootable clone of the harddrive onto an external firewire drive the best method?
If the answer is an external drive, do you have any advice on which brand or company and/or which software to use for cloning?
I appreciate any help or suggestions you might have.
Thanks!

Updating OS on Pismo
I had an iBook 700 which cratered. It was dual boot with OS 9 and OS 10. I still have the software CD's. I got a Pismo 500 from eBay which is running OS 9.0 something. Would it be possible to use the software CD's from the iBook to update the OS on the Pismo? Does anyone know of a website that would give me instructions on how to do this or whether it can be done?
I've never put an OS on a computer. I guess I'm spoiled because I've always had Apple/Macs and never had to do much to them, just use them and have fun.
The Pismo works, I just would like to update it to OS 10 so I can use the flash drive I have to exchange info from my eMac.
Any help will be appreciated.
