Cheap Thrills
For the incredibly high price of $2.50 I now have my Kindle reading to me through the 8 speakers in my car :^) The car has an aux-in jack for the stereo and the sound is amazing! No volume problems with road noise now.

Kindle for PC
Just downloaded the free Kindle for PC application. It's pretty cool. It is fully integrated with your Kindle account. I downloaded all of my archived books and now have copies that I can read on my pc.
Cover art shows up in color and the books are displayed just like on Amazon. Illustrated books display great graphics on a pc. I got the free copy of the Cook's Illustrated and can now print recipes from the book :^)
If, heaven forbid, you should ever have a Kindle failure you will still be able to read your Kindle purchases, that's a real bonus to me.
Anywho, it's a very quick download, 10 second install and away you go!
Try it, you'll like it. Kindle for PC

Grumble!
Price drop on the Kindle again! It's down to $249 now. I'm beginning to feel slighted it's now dropped a third of it's price since I bought in May!
New international version will be available this month but it sounds like it's a $1.99 per download on top of the books price. Hope they don't get any ideas about doing that here!

Interesting Article - Sony/Kindle
Evaluating the new e-books. It seems the thick of summer reading season is an opportune time for makers of e-book devices to try to capture consumers’ attention -- even if e-books, sand, and saltwater are not such a propitious blend. Last week, Sony unveiled two e-book devices, including a $129 “pocket edition.’’ Barnes & Noble launched what it calls the world’s biggest e-book bookstore and said that early next year it will start selling an e-book reader of its own. Yankee Group analyst Carl Howe appraised the new Sony Reader devices.
Both of these devices make the Amazon Kindle feel cheap and flimsy by comparison. They’re easy to hold, beautiful to look at, and a delight to read from. Which makes it a real shame that Yankee Group doesn’t expect them to take any significant share away from Amazon’s Kindle yet.
Why not? The answer’s simple: They forgot the “anywhere’’ ingredient of ubiquitous connectivity, and as a result, put too much friction in the book acquisition process.
Think about the steps required to get a new book onto the Sony Readers:
■ Fire up your computer (and wait for all the booting, software updates, device driver complaints, and virus warnings to subside)
■ Browse to the Sony e-book store
■ Find the book you are interested in
■ Buy the book (and enter all the appropriate payment information associated with that purchase)
■ Download the book to your computer
■ Hook up your e-book reader
■ Sideload the book onto the reader
■ Disconnect the reader
■ Read
Compare that with Kindle:
■ Turn Kindle on
■ Find book you want at Kindle store
■ Click “Buy this book’’
■ Wait 20 seconds
■ Read
The misconception that most people have is that the Kindle’s primary purpose in life is to be an electronic book reader.
But that’s not right - it’s actually an electronic book-buying device.
The killer use for the Kindle is a businessperson facing a 12-hour flight with nothing to read; the Kindle lets that user choose from more than 100,000 titles with no more effort than a few clicks.
Make no mistake: Sony will sell a bunch of these e-book readers. Unlike Amazon’s February Kindle 2 launch, Sony timed its Reader launch understanding that holiday shopping is just around the corner.
But this market won’t really take off until Sony, Plastic Logic, and the other Kindle competitors understand that their goal should be to make it as easy as possible for the consumer to go from “I want this book’’ to “I own this book.’’ Until then, Amazon still has the lead.

Cleaning Time!
Ok so I have had my Kindle for 4 months now. That means I have had my grubby hands all over it constantly. That nice white plastic is starting to take on a real earthy look :^(
I've searched the Kindle boards and can't seem to find anything about cleaning it. So my experiment begins. I'll let you know what I use and whether I manage to melt the case or not :^)
PS: A skin is not an option for me, they are a little to distracting for my liking.

Shot Self in Foot!
So I took a road trip to Canada last weekend to visit my Dad. The Kindle was all charged up and freshly stocked with reading material, great eh!
I have been reading Paranoia by Joseph Finder, really good book btw. So I'm showing my Dad the Kindle and all it's great features when I fat fingered the five way and poof deleted my book!!!!!! Arrrggghhh :^(
I'm in Canada, no whispernet, no notebook and no Paranoia to read. I tried to read something else but just couldn't, I wanted to finish what I had started! Anywho I drove home yesterday and as soon as I got here I pulled Paranoia from the archive and voila, it downloaded and opened to the exact spot I was at when I deleted it.
So be careful when demonstrating all those wonderful features :^)

Searching the Kindle Boards
Here is a link to a custom Google search that sits on top of the Kindle discussion boards at Amazon. Takes a bit of getting used to but it beats the alternative which is just trying to find something!

Kindle Discussions
Don't think I have to buy any more drama books from Amazon, I just have to read the Kindle Discussion boards :^)
Reminds me of the early Eons days, users slandering each other left and right, wild accusations of trolling and "I'm telling Amazon" on you :^) The sides have been drawn up and the gangs are roaming from thread to thread.............
