Skins

There was a time when we can change the skin in our page by going to the skin gallery and choose the skin that some eons members made. To my understanding they are sharing their nice work and letting us those like me who do not know css or html use it. Does the new eons team let us still do this? I do not want to be told that I am getting and using his skin.

To me if I know how to make a skin, I would be so very happy to share it with anyone without much ado. It means that my good work is being appreciated. Just my two cents.

Basic Web Page: Menu - Lesson 08

Sorry about the gap of time between lessons. Things got busy, LOL.

If you are creating a website with more than one page, you'll want your visitors to easily be able to navigate from one page to another. If it's a small site, you might have only one menu. If it's a large site, you might have a main menu and some various sub-menus. You might also have certain menus only show in certain sections of your site. Of course, if it's a very large business site, you'd might be wise to hire someone to create it so they can use more advanced methods of managing sites. :^)

We'll look at having a very simple menu and then view some examples of other types of menus.

"Unofficial Eons Skin Gallery" spreadsheet

Are you wanting to change your profile skin and having trouble finding one you want to use?

There are now over 1800 skins listed in the "Unofficial Eons Skin Gallery" spreadsheet. view link You can click on the drop down lists under each column title and filter by keywords. This is a great way to find and try out some skins.

The name of the skin in most entries is "clickable". Click on the name of the skin and a new window opens showing your profile with that skin - just as it would open from the skin gallery itself. If the name in the spreaqdsheet isn't clickable yet, you can click in the "Id" box if the contents is blue. If you find a glitch, don't hesitate to let us know.

If you are a skin developer and would like to use a special form to enter your own information, send me a PM and I'll help you get started.

Many thanks to TrustingHeart and MotherGeorge who have been putting loads of work into this!

Basic Web Page: Font Face (Typeface) Lesson 07

Choosing a font face (typeface) is not as simple as it might seem. Although you surely want your website to stand out, you also want folks to be able to read your content. So choosing a font needs some consideration.

Different operating systems (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.) only support certain fonts and few fonts are supported by all systems. If you don't have a font on your computer, then you won't see the text in that font. Your browser will choose what it thinks is most like the font. The same thing applies to visitors of your site. If you specify a font they don't have, their browser will choose. And sometimes a browser chooses the worst font ever. :^)

There are other things to take into consideration also, but for this lesson, we will stick to choosing a font face and how to put the choices in the "style.css" file.

Basic Web Page - Footer and Floats Lesson 06

Most websites have a footer at the bottom of the page. This not only helps in "balancing" the overall page, but more and more designers are using the footer to present more information or present more in depth navigation links.

We'll be adding a div for the footer at the bottom of our index.html page and then we are going to do a little magic, LOL!
