HTML Workshop FYI
Welcome! It's Great to Have You Here!
The HTML workshop was started way back by LeeInFl. There's been many changes in the group and on Eons since that time. And now there are more changes! The HTML Workshop has merged with "Creating a Web Page" and "CSS Web Design" which are now private sister groups.
Everyone is welcome to discuss all areas of website creation here in the Workshop. Feel free to post tips, trick or techniques. We'd love to hear what works for you. If you have some links to tutorials, online tools, how-to's, or other great sites, we'd love for you to share them.
We can even discuss Eons, LOL. The replies in this sticky will include some Basic HTML Tags that can be used on Eons. If you have any questions about how to use the tags, just ask. We love to help!
Your ideas, tips and suggestions to improve the group are very welcome. Also, if you have a question or a problem, just post and we'll see if we can help! Let's have some fun as we learn!

Posting Links to Your Own Website
We'd love to see what you've done with any web site you've created - personal, non-profit or business. It would especially be helpful if you are seeking help for a problem you are having. However, Eons limits where certain links can be posted. So, to avoid misunderstandings and for consistency, please link to any web site you created with this method:
1) Create a link from your Eons profile page or Eons blog to your personal web site.
2) Then, post a simple message inviting us to go to your Eons profile or Eons blog to view the link.
This method will keep the TOU's between you and Eons. Eons Community Guidelines - Eons TOU's Besides, it's another way to invite people to check out your Eons profile page!

Finding a Free Web Hosting Service
You can do an internet search and find boocoos of free web hosting services - but how do you figure out which ones are good? It's not always an easy thing to do.
Sometimes, you can simply stumble onto some information. I noticed, way back when, that LeeInFl (the original manager of this group) used 110mb.com to host his help files. So, I opened an account with them and have generally been satisfied with it.
Sometimes, you can find some articles that recommend a number of sites. This makeuseof article, Top 7 Easy and Free Web Hosting Services, lists some web hosting services, that in the author's opinion, are at the top: view link www.makeuseof.com/tag/top-7-easy-and- free-web-hosting-services/
The author gives the criteria for determining the sites that made the list - one of which required that the site must be "as free as possible". He was also looking for sites that include the necessary tools for hosting blogs. If you are looking for a web hosting service, you might want to check out his recommendations, as you do your searching.
Some other good free hosting site may have been excluded from his list due to his specific criteria. Those site may be perfectly fine for regular website hosting. He may also have missed some good sites when he was doing his search.
So, feel free to share a link to a web hosting site that you or a friend has used. The link you share might be just the type of site that someone else is looking for!

Computer Virus Warning
My husband just called this morning and told that they had posted at work a notice about a really bad virus. It said not to open anything on your computer where the subject head line says anything about "postcards". It will melt your puter.
Kompozer: Free HTML Editor
Everyone has their preferences for writing HTML and/or creating web sites. Some prefer to do all the coding by hand. Others use HTML editors to help with some or most of the coding work.
Me? I need all the help I can get LOL. I generally use Kompozer - a free, WYSIWYG HTML editor. view link www.kompozer.net/ Kompozer has versions for Windows, Macs and Linux. It's fairly simple to learn to use and creates generally clean code.
You can use it like a word processor - choosing font, text color, style, size, etc. Then you can look at the source view and see all the wonderful HTML code.
Here are two help files with lots of screen shots that gives instructions on using Kompozer:
Introduction to Kompozer: view link ccs.110mb.com/eons/IntroductionToKomp. html
Kompozer part 2 - Adding an image: view link ccs.110mb.com/how/AddingImageWKompozer. html
If you don't already have a preference for an HTML editor, you might what to check it out. Feel free to ask any questions that you might have. We'd love to help if you decide to download it and learn to use it.
If you have a different editor that you use, we'd love to hear about it.

XHTML and HTML
According to w3schools in their Introduction to XHMTL, view link" rel="nofollow">view link XHTML is a stricter and cleaner version of HTML and is almost identical to HTML 4.01. XHTML consists of all the elements in HTML 4.01, combined with the strict syntax of XML.
Here's what they give as the most important differences.
* XHTML elements must be properly nested
* XHTML elements must always be closed
* XHTML elements must be in lowercase
* XHTML documents must have one root element
They suggest that folks need to bring up their code to the 4.01 standard (and have a reference to help with that). The also state, "you should start NOW to write your HTML code in lowercase letters, and NEVER skip closing tags."
If you are interested improving your skills, their XHTML tutorial will give you a great start. view link" rel="nofollow">view link w3schools.com/xhtml/default.asp
They also describe the steps they took to change their site from HTML to XHTML transitional. Here's the part of the tutorial that details the steps: view link w3schools.com/xhtml/xhtml_howto.asp
There's some good info here is you are considering creating your own website or are interested in updating some you already have. If you have some tips or suggestion - or questions, don't hesitate to post.

Pictures
I need help which lately is something I seem to need quite a lot. I want to take pictures from my photobucket album and download to my computer. I want to add these to my eons pictures.
I can not seem to find a way. I know that it is a simple process but it seems that all the brain I have is on a delete mode.
