Break out that neti pot!

Hi All,

Started using my neti pot morning and night last week when I began developing sinus issues because of allergies.

Together with R.C. around cheeks and inhalation of peppermint, to-day Saturday, no more sinus problems!

You gotta to love these oils! And neti pot of course!

Below is a recipe for using with your neti pot.

Rosemary and Melaleuca aricifolia (tea tree)essential oils can be used in a saline solution for very effective nasal irrigation that clears and decongests sinuses. As recommended by Daniel Pénoël, MD, the saline solution is prepared as follows:

12 drops rosemary cineol
4 drops tea tree
8 tablespoons very fine salt

The essential oils are mixed thoroughly in the fine salt and stored in a sealed container. For each nasal irrigation session, 1 teaspoon of this salt mixture is dissolved into 1 ½ cups distilled water.

This oils/salt/water solution is then placed in the tank of an oral irrigator to irrigate the nasal cavities, which is done while bending over a sink. This application has brought surprisingly positive results in treating latent sinusitis and other nasal congestion problems.[1]

All the best,

Ernestine

Aromatherapy~The History of Thieves~

Essential Oils are available both as "singles" and "blends." Singles are a specific plant (such as rose or ylang ylang) and a blend is the combination of two or more single oils. In this message, I will share information about a very popular oil blend; Thieves.

In ancient times, sweet smelling oils were respected more for medicinal properties than scent, while today the opposite is true. Most of modern society is ignoring the greatest attributes of essential oils--their health-giving properties.

The History of Thieves™
Europeans began producing essential oils in the 12th century. During the Plague of the 15th century, certain thieves were able to rob the dead without fear of becoming infected by the terrible disease. After being captured and charged with robbing the dead and dying victims of the plague, the thieves were offered a deal. The magistrate offered them leniency if they would reveal how they managed to avoid contracting the dreaded infection, in spite of their close proximity with the infected corpses. They disclosed that they were perfumers and spice traders, and that they had rubbed themselves with a concoction of aromatic herbs (cinnamon, and clove).

Thieves Blend™ was found to have a 99.6 percent kill rate against airborne bacteria!

When Ancient Tradition Links with Modern Society: Thieves™ Blend
Fast forward - 20th century, Young Living Essential Oils begins testing Thieves™ Blend, a proprietary combination of cinnamon, clove and rosemary essential oils for its potent antimicrobial properties. Thieves™ Blend was found to have a 99.6 percent kill rate against airborne bacteria. According to the Essential Oils Desk Reference (Essential Science Publishing, page 125), Studies conducted at Weber State University during 1997 showed the antibacterial effectiveness of this blend against airborne microorganisms."

~Healing Properties of Lavender~

Historical anecdotes tell us that the lavender fieldworkers and perfumers of the Middle Ages survived the Black Death and other plagues because lavender protected them from the lethal bacteria. Many modern studies have proven that the oils of many lavender species exhibit antimicrobial action. For example, laboratory studies have shown that lavender oil can eradicate certain antibiotic-resistant bacteria. More than one strain of pathogenic Staphylococcus, including the common pathogen Staphylococcus aureus, are readily destroyed by lavender, say researchers at Cornell University. And according to the French researcher Dr. P. Belaiche, lavender is effective against a type of pathogenic Streptococcus often involved in coughs and colds.
In a 1973 study by the German researchers Wagner and Sprinkmeier, a blend of the essential oils of lavender, clove, cinnamon and melissa (commonly known as lemon balm) was found to be as effective in treating bacterial bronchial conditions as were commercial antibiotics. Bronchial conditions can also be viral, and studies have determined that lavender oil can effectively disintegrate certain viruses, including flu viruses. In addition, this natural antimicrobial has been shown to be an effective fungicide, helpful in eliminating thrush, an overgrowth of yeast (Candida albicans).

Lavender can be especially helpful in the medicine chest during the cold and flu season. According to James Duke, Ph.D., the retired U.S.D.A. botanist who studied herbs for many years, medicinal plants "offer our best hope for confronting drug-resistant bacteria."

Essential Oils, a quick definition: Aromatic plants such as lavender, mint and thyme have glands that exude volatile oils, or essential oils, which have medicinal properties. Both the plants and their oils can be described as aromatic, the expression referring not to their fragrance but to an old term for the chemical structure upon which many of the constituents in the oils are based.

Flu Prevention with Essential Oils

I have proof with my own experience of the effectiveness of this oil combination.Young Living has a therapeutic-grade essential oil blend called "Thieves" which includes clove, cinnamon bark, rosemary, lemon and Eucalyptus radiata. At the first sign of a cold or virus coming on, I take a few drops under my tongue, rub under my feet and usually in a couple of hours I am fine. With this swine flu fuss going on, I make sure to do this regimen every morning before I leave the house!I have never taken the flu shot and within the last 9 years have never gotten the flu or a cold.Of course, I do take other supplements and try to eat healthy.
