Sicko Review

For those of you who care, the Lonestar went to the produce aisle instead of to the movies. She was last seen looking for organic lettuce in aisle two.

So all I can provide the group is this clip from Williamette Week, the alternative Weekly in Portland

You can get the full thing at the website www.wweek.com June 27, 2007 at page 59. Review is titled Physician, Heal Thyself

... His latest smear campaign, Sicko, has in its crosshairs the most reprehensible villain yet; the health insurance industry, a numbers racket disguised as medical service....

...The first half of Sicko is a forceful complaint... we meet the victims of HMO deceit, who line up to tell wrenching stories of lost mortgages, legal loopholes and dead relatives.

...None of this could be mistaken by anyone with the slightest intelligence for a nuanced policy discussion, but it's an effective broadside, and fairly entertaining. It's also too good to last.

...As Sicko drags into its second hour, he exchanges his old standby of hyperbolic accusations for a cloying credulity....

...But what's amazing about Sicko is that a provocateur as canny as Moore is so disdanful of his audience. His idea of offering solutions is to accept, without question, the policies of other nations, and his ideal viewer is someone who is actually as naive as he pretends to be.

...No. it's just vey bad propaganda. And it reveals a man who, even when he thinks he is restraining himself, thinks so little of his admirers, that he feeds them the most sentimental appeals.

We live in a nation run by duplicitous scoundrels, and it's understandably tempting to rally behind a public figure who brashly challenges them. But in cheering for Michael Moore--a fake populist and an authentic liar--you're only rooting for another bad guy. As a country we can do better than our current health care system. And we can do better than this movie.

Perhaps, the Lonestar was wiser to be in the produce aisle.

That does it..............

Johnh you have hassled my finest sensitivities long enough. Now you drag out the Michael Moore hunk once again. I say we pool our resources and buy him a treadmill. We will grease it and put a bowl of food on the front, perhaps you can help him position himself on the device, and we can pipe in piggy noises to set the mood for his dining pleasure. Then I find out you are a Yankees fan? OMG where will it end, I suppose you like Derek Cheater too lol.....Lonestar1.

An aspirin a day keeps the MI away..

Read another article about taking an aspirin a day. They are recommending 81 mg, the baby aspirin. This is for prevention, keeping the blood thinner to prevent heart attack and strokes. Anybody doing this? Interested in your thoughts. Lonestar1.

"Sicko" Premier Next Week

Need to make sure that all know that Michael Moore's latest epistle titled "Sicko" is scheduled to hit movie theaters next week. I haven't seen any local theaters schedule it yet. But stay tuned for further announcements.

Actually, I don't think much of Michael Moore, other than that I do appreciate a fellow Yankees fan. Ralph Nader, 60 Minutes and Counsumer Reports all do/did the expose stuff so much better.

Organic update.......Chef Cory

Working a really cool project and was at a very proactive hospital that employs a chef. Chef Cory made a healthy meal for us and it was terrific. He gave us a lot of health information that I would like to share with all of you. Salmon: He advised that you want to find out where the salmon comes from. The redder the better. If it comes from Alaska that's great. If you pick salmon that is farmed it is basically fattened with animal meal and also it is injected with antibiotics. They do this because it makes the salmon larger and thus more profitable. So, Alaska salmon is the best in fact they do not allow the salmon farms in Alaska at all. Wild salmon is the most nutritious (full of Omega-3). It is so nutritious because wild salmon eat a lot of krill. The salmon live their happy life, have their fill of krill, then head upstream to spawn and that's when they catch them. And, not to feel guilty about eating them because after they spawn they die anyway, it's the natural order. Anyway, how did Chef Cory make the salmon? He mixed a lot of spices together and cooked the salmon with the skin side up, which holds in the flavor. Ok a little Cilantro, other spices and special salt from a salt marsh..... these chefs have their tricks lol. Cook at low medium heat, never high heat. He also made a salad with dark greens and different types of lettuce.....he advises to avoid iceberg lettuce unless you want a drink of water because there is very little fiber or anything else of substance there. The salad had walnuts, peppers, onion, and lots of other goodies....but you can tailor yours to your liking with lots of good vegetables available this time of year. Finally, for dessert, he melted dark bitter sweet chocolate making a sauce which went over fresh strawberries. Calories were few and valuable nutrition achieved with an emphasis on organically grown produce. Thanks, Cory...you are a great chef..Lonestar1.
