Aricept

I need some input.

My soon to be 87 year old mother has been on Aricept for several years. During the past few months both her mental and physical health have been deteriorating. She has many of aricepts side effects (headache, diahrehha, nausea). She is losing her memory of the past few years and cannot remember what she had for dinner an hour before. The owner of her group home consulted with the group home doctor and it has been suggested that she should be taken off aricept since it is losing it's effectiveness. This drug costs $200.00 each month. Does anyone have any experience --positive or negative as to what happens once a person is taken off aricept? Please let me know. Thanks!

Hospitalists??

Hello all

I'm wondering what experience you all have had with the new "breed" of doctors called hospitalists? My Mom's primary doctor retired this year. When she was admitted to the hospital a few weeks ago (her first admission in a few years for a resistent UTI) I called her new primary doctor and was shocked by her response - she basically said she didn't know my Mom - had never seen my Mom (which is true) and did not have "privleges" at the hospital. In other words, I shouldn't be bother her!!!! I later learned that the medical group my Mom belongs to (Medisun/Arizona) has hospitalists on call at their hospitals and once you are admitted - he/she is your primary doctor (my son had a similar experience in CA a few weeks ago - it was a teaching hospital and a whole other nightmare). My Mom was moved from the hosptial to a rehab facility and the PROBLEM is that each week there is a new doctor and so far none of the doctors have agreed about my Mom's treatment. One will schedule a procedure, the hospital will call me for permission (I'm the POA) and then the next day they will decide the procedure wasn't necessary afterall. It's sooooo frustrating. I have no "primary" doctor to turn to so I've been contacting the hosptial social worker to try to get answers, but I'm at my wits end. Does anyone else have experience with this - how did you handle it?
