Lure of Cyberspace
As a geologist/ educator, I believe it is very important for kids to explore the natural world. Lately though, kids are so occupied with tv, video games, computers, etc. that they are not establishing a deep connection with Nature. Is anyone else concerned?

I am new here. I am not here to whine or to drag anyone, kicking and screaming to a "pity party." I do not engage in self pity as it is counter productive. But I do wonder if anyone here has had contact with their grandchildren, revoked due to estrangement?
My son and his family live on my street- very close proximity- very awkward. How about some advice with regard to birthday and Christmas gifts for his 2 children? My son has been known to RETURN TO SENDER- with other family members. Just send and hope for the best? Thanks much!

Does it bother anyone else that we have a growing number of reality TV shows featuring kids? And now find out the Balloon Boy was a stunt for publicity!
Grandson and Basketball
My g/s has decide to play basketball now that his season of football is over. On his try outs, he did great. The coach was quite impressed with him, and put him in the starting game. Don't know when that yet is, but it should be fun to watch. This boy is a go getter!

Helping your grandchild out financially
I'm working on a story on a "trend" for grandparents to share their money with their grandchildren during their lifetime (as opposed to the more traditional will-left for the future monies) so they can see the results (going to school, new clothes, etc). At the same time, they're less apt to talk about saving and planning for the future with those same grandkids. I'm looking to talk to people interested in sharing their experiences in this regard.
GRANDSON WINS FOOTBALL GAME
My grandson is quarter back for his team, and lead them to victory on Sat. 53 to nothing, that's kicking some butt. "lol" So proud of him. He's 11 and wants to be a football player when he's older. Been playing now for 3 yrs, and has been picked by several to be on their team.
