Seven Things God Hates
Here is my understanding of this scripture:
Seven Things God Hates
Proverbs 6:16-19:
16. These six things doth the Lord hate; yea, seven are an abomination.
17. A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood.
18. A heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift into running to mischief.
19. A false witness that speaketh lies and he that soweth discord among the brethren.
While studying the sixth chapter of Proverb that list the things God hates, I began thinking of how prevalent they are in our society today. My understanding is as follows:
A PROUD LOOK is found today in abundance in Washington, DC. In both houses of Congress are those who have devoted many years of their lives to politics. Too many of them have become arrogant, haughty and overbearing. They are presumptuous in believing that only they know what is best for our country. Sadly, the public is content to let this situation continue, and forgets that the people of this country is supposed to be “the government of the people, by the people, and for the people” as Abraham Lincoln reminded us at Gettysburg.
Professors in the major universities have exalted themselves so highly that they are disdainful of any belief systems other than their own. In order to make passing grades, the students must outwardly accept the beliefs of the professors.
It is found in the very wealthy as they view the middle class and lower class. Saturated by their excessive pride, they feel set apart from those who own less than themselves.
A LYING TONGUE is pervasive in our society today. From the very old down to the very young, it has become a way of life. Used to getting what is desired, it has produced a degree of paranoia in the total population. Parents often deceive their children, who in turn deceive their parents, unscrupulous merchants make false claims about their merchandise, politicians make false promises to their constituents, and sociopaths live their lives continuously deceiving those around them and always blame others falsely for their own behavior.
Hands that shed innocent blood. Today, the news is filled with reports of numerous murders, mass shootings, serial killers, and pedophiles that sexually abuse children before killing them. At the same time, the number of those who oppose the death penalty continues to increase. More emphasis is placed on the murderer’s rights than on the victim that has lost all his rights, even the right to live. Each year, the lives of over a million babies are destroyed. It has been said that the most dangerous place for a baby today is in its mother’ womb. The cost of the imprisonment of the thousands of convicted murderers falls upon the public in ever increasing taxes.
WICKED IMAGINATIONS. One has only to watch television and movies to see the results of imaginations gone wild. Distorted images of grotesque beings race across the screen as they carry out their evil plans to destroy that which is good and just. Even the programs for children are filled with versions of this type behavior. It is as though children today are growing up in a world of violence, where atrocities are the norm. Can we expect any different behavior from them in the future if they have been allowed to have a steady diet of this type of entertainment?
FEET SWIFT TO MISCHIEF. Wide spread drug addiction has contributed to hastening the addict’s feet to seek ways to support his habit. Theft, burglary, and assaults are committed in order to obtain money to pay for the drugs. Hundreds of car thefts, robbery of jewelry stores, liquor stores and convenience stores are committed daily by amateurs. The long standing bank robberies have not diminished in number.
Widespread sexually transmitted diseases result from unrestricted promiscuity. It is estimated that over seventy-percent of teenagers have engaged in sex by the time they graduate from high school. Those who choose to wait until after marriage to have children are often mocked for doing so. We hear about celebrities that have children out of wedlock, and the momentous occasion is the subject of national news reports.
FALSE WITNESS. Valid testimony is one that can be proved. Neighborhood gossips spend much of their time repeating things that they cannot prove, but continue to repeat it anyway. Gossip columns in news papers, magazines and on television often use the phrase, “It is rumored that...” and in to many cases that is true in that is only a rumor.
Students in high school and college readily admit to cheating on tests and examinations, not realizing that they are cheating themselves by not learning the subjects well enough to make honest passing grades.
Many times parents make false statements to their children about their own pasts, or make empty promises for the future. When this is the case, how can we expect the children to be honest?
HE THAT SOWETH DISCORD. Those that sow discord are found in churches, places of employment, in the political realm, and even within the family. They seem to find a sadistic delight in creating unpleasant, often divisive situations within groups. Is it because they are miserable and want everyone around them to be likewise, or is it hidden hostility that seeks this means of expression/
It is not pleasant to look at the state of our society today, but if improvements are to be made, one must take a realistic look at it in order to determine where and how to begin.

Beatitudes

This is something I would like to do....lets go through the Beatitudes and go verse by verse. I will start....lets explain what we think they mean?
Christian Music
Harvest Festival
When I lived in England Harvest Festival was a wonderful time. The churches would be packed with the good things from the land.....baskets of wonderful smelling crusty loaves of bread, apples, nuts, fall flowers, pumpkins and all the lovely fresh veggies and fruits, plums.....
We should always remember from whom all these blessings come.
In this country Halloween (the devils holiday) take precedence and I can not believe that Christians go along with it??????

But GOD ! Be Encouraged.
I Chronicles 5:20
He heeded their prayer, because they put their trust in him.
Are you really trusting GOD with that prayer request?

wisdom
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. James 1:5,6
Isnt that an interesting concept? Wisdom shall be granted if you ask for it. But you must believe and not doubt!
How easy is it really for us to not doubt? Its putting faith in God and truly believing that he will hear your request and grant it! Do we always do that? Or does that niggling doubt somehow creep in?
"Have faith in God" Jesus answered. I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain,'go throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes in his heart that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Mark 11:22,23
Again doubt...isnt it amazing to think that we could actually convince a mountain to jump into the sea if only we believed with all our hearts and held NO doubt? Is it possible? Or is it so ingrained in us that its not possible for a mountain to jump into the sea that we cannot help in our human weakness to doubt it somewhere in our subconscious?
