Canning ideas

Lets share some canning ideas and tips.

I have put up pickles, but they really should be kept refrigerated, so I guess not really practical.
I have canned peaches, very simple, in a light syrup....

If the country goes under......

will any of us be on this Internet? I kind of think that will be one of the first things to go. I would rather eat then do with out. I will miss all, but it sure is making me nervous. Hope they come up with something that really works. I see China and Iran and Venezuela in on this. Almost like sabatoge....oil, foods, goods.
ANyone else that?

We are survivors

We will survive. Generations of hard working folks before us have paved a trail so that we might. We do not give up and we will not give up. As our ancestors before us, we will tighten the apron strings, get to work, stand tall, and show the world what we new pioneers are made of.

Inexpensive bathroom cleaning tips

Bathroom

.Tub and tile cleaner. Mix 1 2/3 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup liquid soap, and 1/2 cup water. Then, as the last step, add 2 tablespoons vinegar (if you add the vinegar too early it will react with the baking soda). Immediately apply, wipe, and scrub.

•A good all-purpose sanitizer. 2 teaspoons borax, 4 tablespoons vinegar, and 3 to 4 cups hot water in a spray bottle. For extra cleaning power, add 1/4 teaspoon liquid soap to the mixture.

•Toilet bowl. Pour 1 cup of borax into the toilet before going to bed. In the morning, scrub and flush. For an extra-strength cleaner, add 1/4 cup vinegar to the borax.

•Drains. Prevent clogged drains by using hair and food traps. To de-grease and sweeten sink and tub drains, pour 1/2 cup of baking soda down drain, followed by 1 cup vinegar; let bubble for 15 minutes; rinse with hot water. You might have to repeat the procedure more than once or leave the baking soda and vinegar to “cook” overnight.

What do you do for entertainment?

I was wondering what some of you do for entertainment outside of the home. I am getting tired of walking around the neighborhood to get out and about. I hate going "window shopping" because it gets depressing that I can not afford anything. I am not a movie goer even though I have gone to the cheap movies a couple of times. What else is there?

Great Auction Site to find them in your area

I heard about this on TV this morning and thought I would share it with you. Just type in your zip code at the top and the radius from that zip code to bring up auctions being held in your area. I went to two in my life so far, most sell lots of items besides just individual pieces, you can bid on things like boxes of kitchen utensils or just individual furniture, some even sell cars, one of the ones I went to had a motorcycle you could bid on, a lady got that for just $20. It really depends on the audience, if you have the wrong people there for the items, you can get them for practically nothing.

Thank you

Thank you for the great response to my last post. you have given me some great ideas. I just needed to get the brain started and some times you need a jump start at my age. I too work partime and I watch my 2 granddaughter during the week. I now have ideas of what I can do for me and some ideas of what I can do with them. Again thank you. Val

Holiday jobs will be scarce this year

I just heard on the news this morning that it will be more difficult to get a seasonal job because of this economy. They said retail stores will be hiring but there won't be enough jobs to go around. It's just sad.

What will you be doing about the upcoming holidays

Since I am still without a job I will be cutting back on the gifts I buy. My bf will help as well. One of the last occasions was my sister's wedding anniversary, since I had little money I went to the dollar store, found some really cute kitchen prints and they were light enough to mail in a mailing envelope.
