Welcome!

Hi,

If you're a newcomer, thanks for stopping by. If you're new to Eons as well, click on 'Files' (above). In the file 'New to Eons?', you'll find answers to some basic questions and learn about a few Eons features.

If you're thinking about joining the group, you don't have to be an expert on Germany. Here, you can ask about food, customs, history or people, tell about a German experience with family or travel, share pictures that you may have and get to know people with the same interests. We're glad that you're here. Enjoy the group!

There's an online calendar that's available for use by anyone in the group. Use it to post anything related to Germany or put in the month and day of your birthday. For help, click on the calendar's 'Help' button or view the writeup in the 'Files' section of the group page. Click here to access the calendar.

German Language

A link to a free online German language course. To me, the directions are not always clear, but once you get the hang of how it works it's easier.

Oktoberfest

Did anyone here get in on any of the celebrations? (in the U.S. or Germany)
Denver had their event over the last two weekends but I was busy both weekends and didn't get the chance to go.

Fasching in Germany

Fasching usually starts on 11/11 at 11minutes past 11AM. It's then that the Faschingsprince and princess and all their staff/helpers get together to determine how to celebrate it. Of course the christmas holidays and new years eve celebrations are at the front during December, so in January - probably around this time - Germans start preparing for Fasching a lot. Have any of you participated in a German Fasching? It is so much fun and I have tons of good memories of numerous Fasching parties I have been to. Oh, and talk about food: the Fasnachts Kuechle are SOO delicious!
Lets talk a little about your experiences with Fasching!

Tomball German Heritage Festival

March 25-27, 2011.
Old Town Tomball Texas 77375
Historical Train Depot Plaza

Beginning with one Oompah band on a flat-bed trailer eleven years ago the festival has become an annual tradition in Tomball and one of the best music/street festivals in Texas. Every year, on the last Weekend in March, festival-goers break out their Lederhosen and Dirndls "Go German" for the area's largest festival celebrating the heritage of the original German families that settled this area beginning in about 1840. In other words in the case of German heritage there is much to celebrate in this part of Texas!

What kind of German games do you know?

When you were in Germany, or grew up there, what kind of games did you play?
Schach? Skat? Canasta? German bowling? How about some board games? Do you know what Spachteln is? Did you learn to play soccer?
Let us know who taught them to you, with whom you played, how you liked them. Maybe add some favorite memories while you were playing games.
