How about a Roll Call ????
We haven't had a roll call in a long time. Would each member please take the time to post, as a reply to this message, your important SURNAMES and the area of research.IE; Borg >Sweden>Utah>Idaho> California. A rollcall is a great tool in our genealogy research. Thanks, Mike

Normington Hulce Baker Duffin
Hi I just joined this group. I work on my family history sometimes and then leave it for long periods. I am always looking for connections to anyone and other information that tells me more about the lives of my ancestors.
Currently I am revisiting the Normingtons. We know they were in Utica NY about 1840 and in Wisconsin by 1870. We, or at least I, don't know anything prior to that. ]]

Finding family in 1800 to 1840's
I am stuck on all 4 sides of my family tree in this time frame. My dads side as far back as I can remember were in VA which later became WV. I found my 2 GGrandfather born in VA abt 1818 and I can't find his parents or siblings. I have tried various sources and am on genealogy.com. This side the surname is Murphy and I want to find where in Ireland they lived. Any help would be appreciated.

If you are looking for information from Western Pa check the libraries. The Uniontown Library's Pennsylvania Room has a lot of files, books, maps and microfilm. I have been doing research for years and it grows and grows as you add another branch and also doing my ex husband's Mother & Father & Step father. Check with historical societies in the county that you are searching.
good luck with your search.
good luck with your search.
Newbie here
Hi Everyone,
I started researching my ancestry a few months ago and have accomplished quite a bit so far(1528 people in my tree and still gowing). Most of my ancestors lived in England so if we have any other members here with English roots let me know and maybe we can help each other.

McGough
family that came to SC in the mid 1700s...I would really like to know about the Ala line as it is connected to my Miss...line....Those from around Selma and middle Ala....
Question..
What is your favorite site if you have to pay for membership? There are so many, any input would be appreciated.
Letting others find you
Years ago I created a web site on my family history and each year I hear from people who discover my site and contact me with new information. I recommend it to anyone doing family research as a powerful tool to piece together their past. Creating your own web site is not hard or expensive and can be a lot of fun.
I wanted to share with everyone an example of what can happen when you have a web site and let others find you. Two days ago I received an email out of the blue from a man who is a Civil War buff. He said he's been collecting information and memorabilia on the 25th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the Company my GGreat grandfather served in. He included a photo of my GGreat grandfather in uniform. No one in our family has ever seen this photo and I have no idea how we might have located it if it weren’t for my web site. It is a real treasure to me as I only had 2 other photos of him. When I emailed the man and mentioned how few photos we had of our GGreat grandfather he asked if I knew that there was a photo of him printed in a book on the Civil War! We didn’t and it turns out the book is now on line with Google books. In one day the photos we had of our GGreat grandfather doubled!

Hello everyone
Hi, I just joined this group yesterday and have already found some helpful resources through reading the messages here. My brother started researching our family tree just this month and he has got me hooked into it also. I find it a bit overwhelming and I get caught up for hours researching, but already I have found some interesting information about my ancestors and even some pictures I had never seen.
Good luck to everyone as you search for who you are !!
