Hoosier Check In and Recycled Waders!

HootIV .. say, at least you got to the water! ". ) Glad to hear it. Temps here in Hoosierville also reached the unpleasant warmer temps of an impending summer sweep. I do enjoy warm, but not not and definitely not muggy. Both were encroaching my neighborhood this week. But I was not able to hit any water other than the shower and 'can'.

And Gliph ... nice sounding 'toys' you're playing with these days.  I've cast a spey, but never owned one. Though I occasionally hit streams of size to accommodate the spey's casting range, most our streams here would only allow me take on maple, oak, willow and sycamore.  Agreed on the 'cold temps' haning on. But of course when you say winter hangs on longer than normal you really mean that!  '. )

LBRetired and Wacko must be out drummin' up fun on the water as we've not heard from them in a while. But of course I've been pretty dormant myself.  I assure you it's not been the desired mode at all!  Life has a way of preempting what we might think we have planned.

On-the-road for the next few days, taking 'mom' (we are now, and have been since early March, an 'elder hostal' for my aging mother-in-law) back to her house in the KY state. She's currently in 'reacquaint mode' - translated: "What did you all do with _____ [fill in the blank on this or that piece of 'stuff' that should have seen the recycle or trash bin 15 years ago!! ]?" . So I'm listening to draws, doors, and chairs moving as she goes about her familial greetings to the 'home'.

Now about those 'leaky waders'. Here's an idea for you and it's a right smart one, too. RECYCLE those old and leaky waders into usable 'other stuff'. I came across this web site, Recycled Waders, the other day.

At first when I saw it I thought it was a joke. But they are for real. And I started kicking myself with the same 'mental boot' I'd done so with before: "WHY didn't I think of that?

These guys have really got a great idea going here. Do take a look at their stuff - not a huge offering, currently, but very useful indeed. And read their site. It's small, but very well designed and 'to-the-point'. Sort of like the philosophy behind their product design.

Do have fun on the water and be sure to post photos and tell us all the details.

Best to all and may your casts only hang up in upper maxilla!

Rod Repair

Hi All
I need some advice/suggestions please

I have my dads flyrod that needless to say is old and need of some repair.I am not sure how old the rod is but do know it is split cane 3 section / 2 tip sections ( 4 pieces) still have canvas bag and tube that did have a screw top ( lost). I would like to put the rod back in service. It has some what i am going to call checking in the finish and some of the guides are off ( i still have them).

With the above said how difficult is it to repair for a novice rod repair person or would you suggest it be done by pro? If pro suggested where/who ( am near Chattanooga / Nashville / Bham ) do you suggest? Is it worth effort ? I think it is a JC Higgins 9ft (Wards)? can provide pictures

greetins' & salutations

As fly fishing is what I do, I thought I'd join up and post a bit about my self. I got a fly rod and some gawdawful automatic reel for my sixth birthday, way back in 1959. My Dad and Granddad then proceeded to drag my butt out and teach me to fish for panfish in the Mobile River Delta. A fine time was had by all, 'ceptin the fish. I haven't really looked back since. And yes, I tie my own flies. These days, it's mostly clousers and decievers, with a few bunkers dropped in. I've transitioned from panfish to inshore saltwater, you see. And, yes, my wife has joined me in the tying and casting way of life. We manage NOT to argue about who's going to fish on what side of the boat, or where the boats gonna go next by the simple expedient of getting a pair of sit-on-top kayaks. In fact, the onliest arguments we have now is as to who is gonna get that prime spot just off the end of those rocks there, "yeah, that's right darlin', right about where you just anchored, dammit." Still works out, as neither of us has hooked the other on a back cast yet.

Dead Group...

OK, I have tried, but zero responses to any post in months tells the tale. The group has died.

Time to just give up and move on.

Really wish that there was a decent fishing group on Eons.

Bye Y'all...

Moving to Red Lodge

I visited Montana in October and spent 3 days at Chico - totally fell in love with south central Montana. My goal is to learn how to fly fish.

BELLA COOLA BC CANADA

If this part sounds interesting, check-out Bella Coola BC on YouTube.com-
Pacific Salmon fishing on the historically listed Bella Coola River, 10,000 year old rock carvings, Great Bear Rainforest, Spectacular Isolated Wilderness Paradise, Grizzlies, Eagles, bcgrizzlytours.com, Heli Sking, Hunlen Waterfall 1,226 feet high, Hwy 20 "The Hill" - 18% grades over Heckman Pass, Nautical Adventures, 18 Marked Hiking/Backpacking trails in Bella Coola Valley, Queen of the Chilliwack seasonal ferry service, Tweedsmuir Provincial Park 1,250,353 acres (506,000 Hectares)

Then when my "unfinished" Wilderness Rainforest River Cabin is finished, and if you can follow bear rules, you may email me mrabb@suddenlink.net to see if you are approved. Cabin is isolated with an Island in front, yet just three miles up river, as the meany eagles fly up and down this river, accessed "only" by skiff/boat with a guide friend there, It's not your mom's backyard. Cabin info on my Facebook if interested---when it's finished. I live 3,000 miles away. Yes--------I know, and I have to drive it. I do not charge for cabin (can explain why) but my Nuxalk Indian guide friend, and cabin builders would have to serve any with skiff/boat service down river. They probably would not stay with you unless you made arrangements with them to do so. I have to use them myself when I go because I'm not skilled on the river which is dangerous.

Anyone Alive out there...

Hit the James River yesterday for the first Shad trip of the year. The Bay is warming nicely, so the Fishing Year has begun in earnest.

First trip to OBX is scheduled for April 5,6 &7...

Time for another Road Trip...

Made 2 good trips to the Outer Banks and am Leaving Sunday for yet another. This is the best big Red Drum run in decades. And the main school of fish has yet to reach that area.

Should be some old time bluefish blitzes along with the Drum...

What a great Fall this has been so far.

Did You Hear The One....

At a contest in Texas everyone brought in fish to show, measure and weigh. Then one of the judges noticed something. It seems that the angler had placed a 2 lb weight inside the little fish.

I guess he just want to win so badly that he felt that this was the only way to win.

A Great Fall...

The annual run of big Red Drum at the Outer Banks is one of the best in decades. Last week I put over a dozen Commendation size (Over 40") fish on the beach. The Drum are still hitting up around the Eastern Shore and the Virginia Capes, so the run will continue for a while.

I'm heading down again next week for another round. By then My Aching Aging Body may be ready...

LOL.
