Welcome Everyone!
My My name is Ron. My handle here on Eons is rltnspd. I have been here on Eons for some four years now. I belong to about 34 different groups here and I am a pretty happy camper.
I have been a member of this group for about a year now. I have spent the last 24 years in Federal Law Enforcement and now one would think that I would be semi-retired, but I am not. I can't retire until I am at least 65 and if our dear president has his way, that might be raised until 69!
I just inherited management of this group and I am very happy about that. I would like to thank Vulcan for this great opportunity. You might guess that since I have been in law enforcement that I have been around firearms pretty much my entire life, and you are right. I have owned guns since the ripe old age of 12 and I still do.
I believe owning firearms is a right that each one of us got from being born here in this great country and I will fight to my death defending that right for each one of us!
I am happy to be here with each one of you and I am looking forward to getting to know each one of you as well. My profile is private due to the internet stalking efforts of my ex wife that I have had to deal with now for over 24 years and it is still ongoing as of about two weeks ago.
So with that said, if you would like to be my friend and get to know me as well, please send me a friend request, and I would be happy to honor that!
I also wanted to share a message with each of you this holiday season.
As we enter into the coming Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons I have stopped to reflect on the many blessings, it becomes a time to reflect on those things that we have that we can be thankful for, and the many "things" that I have given up during this past year. Those "things" were just material things, and yes, one day I hope to be able to have the resources to re--acquire some of them. The rest, I will just do without as many of us do.
For me, I am getting my reality check by thinking about the families and kids in Haiti that so many of you have helped support through your kind donations over the last year. Those people were living in squaller long before the earthquakes hit and in many cases, they are worse off now than ever before with diseases running rampant through their country. I wonder if many of them will survive.
These people have faced far worse than I have in my life, yet they are an example to me of how to continue on in the worst of circumstances. Time and time again life throws them curveballs that would make most of us just want to wither up inside ourselves, yet they continue to face their life with strength and grace.
I also have been reflecting on the many of you who have joined our group and shared your feelings, thoughts and ideas with me and the rest of us. You have made our lives better because of who you are in your hearts. You inspire me with your resourcefulness, with your resilience, and with the can-do spirit that made this country great. You all have been buffeted by the winds of fate as I have, that would knock down lesser people, but still you continue on, one step at a time. And far from hardening your hearts, it has made you that much more compassionate and willing to share your knowledge with the other people.
Your faith, your tenacity, and your spirit continue to shine through.
And for that I'm thankful!
May God bless you all! And May God Continue to bless this great country, The United States of America!

Ladies ?
Are there any lady shooters here? Do you have a favorite firearm? Do you have a "Go To" firearm for self defense ?
Pelts & the 17HMR
I don't run a trapline right now, but I have in the past, and may well run one in the future. As a result, I care about pelt damage when harvesting fur. There's a few rounds/loads that are stand-bys that keep your pelt values up. There's the .22 cb cap, the .22 short/long and for (fur friendly) busting coyote, coon, & bobcat at a distance, there's the 35gr & 40gr soft points and V-max outta a 223 or 22-250. But a round I've never used that may be quite useful is.....
.....The .17 hmr.
I've heard stories about this caliber where the pelt damage was so slight, it was about impossible to tell where the critter was shot. I'm wondering what kind of pelt damage this forums members have seen first hand. I'm particularly interested in it's proformance with fox, & nutria. What loads would be best for quickly dispatching these animals without the bullet exiting the far side? What have YOU seen with this round in the field?

Happy New Year Everyone!
I want to take a moment and wish you all a very Happy and prosperous New Year!
You friends are what hold our nation together. Exercising our God given constitutional rights to keep and bear arms.
The other day, Sarah Palin told all of us what her favorite firearm was. I think it would be fun to know what each of think is the best kind of weapon and why. I don't want you to tell us what you have, but I would love to have you share with all of us what you think is the best gun!
I hope you are enjoying the New Year and that you have fun enjoying the things you do and hope that we can one day get together and share the love of the hobby that we so enjoy!
Keep smiling and Happy New Year!
Ron

Doctors vs. Gun Owners
Doctors vs. Gun Owners
Doctors
(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician are 0.171.
Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services.
Now think about this!
Guns
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 84,000,000. (Yes, that's 84 million)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, and averages 1,387.
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .000188.
Statistics courtesy of FBI.
So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,300 times more dangerous than gun owners. Remember, 'Guns don't kill people, doctors do.'
FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT
Almost everyone has at least one doctor.
This means you are over 900 times more likely to be killed by a doctor as a gun owner!
Please alert your friends to this alarming threat.
We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!
Out of concern for the public at large, I withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention!
