Falls
While I should say up front, I'm not the most graceful of people for the past couple of years I've developed a tendency to trip and fall -- a lot!! I trip multiple times a day, seemingly over my own two feet, and every 3 or 4 months I'll trip over something small (a crack in the sidewalk if usually the culprit) that results in me going down and hitting the concrete like a Redwood. So far I've managed to avoid breaking anything, but my knees and elbows look like a 5 year olds..lol. I'd started using a cane after an earlier fall, just so I could move around with some feeling of safety, but lost the darn thing at the Mall last weekend..argh! I also figure the day is coming where I'm going to hit the ground hard enough to actually break something, which scares me witless. I've researched this a number of times on the Internet and can't find much. Thursday found me tripping on the subway car and my ribcage is still tender. I have an appointment with my doctor on Tuesday, and am wondering if I should mention it, or just let it be.
I guess what I'm asking is if others have this problem, or if it's just me being a klutz? I'm in a lot of pain this morning, even the bottoms of my feet hurt some, although as usual my back and arm are the worst. I'm supposed to attend a party with my son this afternoon -- his boss invited us to a cookout -- and while I'm sure I'll go, I have a feeling it's going to be a long day.
Hope y'all are having a good Sunday -- as painless as possible.

Welcome New Members!
First I want to welcome the new members we have. It's great to add new friends.
Next, I want to reply to some posts...
Falling can be due to an unbalanced equilibrium. That's from FM. I get that some times. I'll be walking and all of a sudden i tip sideways as if I was toppling over. Slowing down helps... when and if I move too fast it is worse. Some of our members replied with some excellent advice.
Pacing is key to avoiding flare-ups. I don't always get things done as soon as I use to, but I do get them done and when I do, I PAT MYSELF in the back. I am grateful for that which I accomplish when I do. Try not to be so hard on yourself.
Accepting your New Self... not as productive, fast paced or energized as you use to be is difficult. I had to finally accept that I could not work. It was one of the hardest things I had to d in my life. But when I finally accepted that this was who I was from now on or until something comes along to cure this disease, I was not as stressed.
Don't be so hard on yourself. Look at it as a change...to reinvent yourself. Pace your day, appointments and chores. When you reach your shorter set goals, be grateful and thankful... and pat yourself for doing it. If you can not, don't be so hard on yourself.
The world never ended because someone did not get to do the dishes or laundry or shopping, etc. It will all be there... the dishes, laundry, shopping and the world... looking you right in the face when you get up in the morning. Trust me!
If you do not pace yourself, you can cause a flare up and that will only make the stress and depression more frequent. Your days in bed more numerous! Shorter goals and frequent rests allows you to accomplish more... and you'll feel like you got some things done.
Well, finally, having a group to share with about your problems, accomplishments and hopes is special. That's what we're all here for.
We look forward to sharing and growing as a FMmily.
Welcome!

HELLO
I have this dreaded proces. I have started taking Cymbalta and it is slowly working this horrid fatigue and heaviness in my legs. I too fall and seem like my balance is way off. I will enjoy your company. Cay
Pacing
I think one of the things I have the worst time with is pacing so that I don't overdo it. I've also been a go-getter, working 16-18 hours a day and now I don't know how to handle cutting back to a 2 hour day. I find it so frustrating and so belittling. I never seem to get anything completely done other than the dishes, my meals & the laundry.
I have quite a few doctors appts. and they tucker me out so that I can't even do anything else on those days.
I feel like my to-do list is just piling up and never going down.
Anybody else have this experience or have any suggestions about how I can make myself change and learn to pace so I will feel better hopefully?

Bad Pain Day

Sorry I have not been around but the last few days have really been bad for me. When I go to bed I can not sleep so I get up and the end result is I am up until three or four in the morning and when I do get to sleep I wake up three or four times. Today I did not get up until eleven or so and could not even begin to function, could not even finish my first cup of coffee...really sucks...I ended up laying down on the couch and dozed on and off until about three this afternoon.
I havae put my tens unit on my upper back and that with my meds seems to be helping some but not enough...LOL...
I hope you all are having as much of a pain free day as possible.
I Year Anniversary!
Hey Guys & Gals... Next week we will be celebrating our ONE YEAR here on Eons! Isn't that great... I wanted to know what you all wanted to do to celebrate our small group? We'll be here Monday...I will post a Message Board and I was gonna suggest everyone leave a message under the post to not take up space on the site...
I am also suggesting we leave a message on the IM window.
Any other suggestions...would be great...
I had thought some of us could get together online and chat as we log on or as we come and go... and/or keep the Message Board going.
A Virtual Party would be great as well... something done on the Jane Seymour site when she was on Dancing With the Stars: We tried to log in that day during the show...or drop in when we could...and partake of virtual goodies: Cake, drinks & snacks. We used our imagination... of course. If you're up to it, that would be lots of fun...
Well, I look forward to another great year with my FMamily here... and a great Anniversary Day! Hope you join me regardless.

MY House...
Hi all,
Sorry I have not been around, but I have been busy... crazy... and overwhelmed...BUT, it's all payed off. I have a house! It's mINe...All MiNe! YIPPIE!...YAHHOOOO! My prayers and your's have been answered... Not my first choice...remember the "Cottage". That did not happen.
Instead, I got a 1940's Colonial with 3 bedrooms, LR, DR, Den, Full Basement, Porch, Patio and small yard...2 blocks from the Art's Center...and as an added bonus, they're building the new Performing Arts Center one block away...on my street. And there is a Catholic Church one block away. It all sounds great and I am looking forward to it.
I am so excited,... just wanted to share it all with my FMamily and friends...and THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR PRAYERS!
BTW... It's "Move-In" ready! Can you beat that? Nope...I don't think so! God is good... All the time!

Hi! I'm jusy joining this group
In response to your query regarding the book : Fibromyalgia and Chronic Myofacial Syndrome. I have had that book since the late 90's I think (maybe early 2000). It is a very good book and provides tons of information on these two illnesses. It's well worth a read.
I think there are some newer books out there too but I haven't bothered to get anything because I think I've finally figured out how to deal with flair ups. If I was smarter, I would take it easier and not push myself so there would be no flair ups. Does anyone else deal with this problem?

Fibro Flare-ups
They are pretty unpredictable and everyone is different.
For some people it is a combination of things such as weather, diet, temperature, etc. For others it could be over use of muscles, positioning, doing something for too long of a period, not stretching or changing positions frequently.
Proper diet and exercise are beneficial, although sometimes with the fatigue component, it is difficult to manage it. I have a lot of fatigue and migraines as well so it exacerbates the whole condition and I'm into a vicious cycle of pain, fatigue and insomnia. Sleep of course is very important and many people with fibro don't sleep well. The best way is to keep your bedroom for sleep only (except for sex of course). Reading, TV, etc. should be done in another room. The idea is that your body will become tuned to sleep when it is in the bedroom if you keep it strictly as such.
Lyrica has finally arrived in Canada. My doctor gave me a sample yesterday. How many of you have tried it for pain? Has it made you sleepy or dizzy? The pharmacist said it was quite sedating. Did you find it helpful for the pain? I've been in agony this year, not sleeping, migrains have been chronic and the fatigue horrendous. I think I blame it on the crazy weather but I could be wrong. I just know it's been tough.
I was given an article while I was at the doctor's yesterday regarding other ailments that go hand in hand with fibro. I will try to remember to write about it after I've read it.
For now, take care of yourselves, be pain free and sleep well.
