What Backgrounds Would You Like to See?
We're planning to expand the collection of backgrounds available in the photo section, both by adding images to existing cateogories and by adding more categories. So, what types of backgrounds interest you? Do you like flowers/floral patterns? Seascapes? Tiling patterns? Fantasy? Sports? Science Fiction? Just name your favorite subjects/styles in this thread and we'll see what we can do.
Also, you are very welcome to upload your backgrounds at any time. You don't need to wait until an album is created for what interests you. You can create a new album, if you wish, or simply upload them and we'll sort them later.

Free patterns from Pattern Head
I ran across this site that has some free patterns you can use as backgrounds: Pattern Head: view link view link
Most of the pattern sets include the choice of downloading EPS files that you can load into Adobe Illustrator (or another vector editor) to edit scale, color, etc. or png images that you can download and use right away. There is quite a variety. Might be a place to get ideas while you are creating - or get a background ready to use!

Uploading backgrounds linked to skins
TestofF8th has uploaded a new textured background tile to the photo section. She's also given one idea of a way that you can link a background tile to a skin that you've created with it.
Simply add something such as the following to a comment under the image:
Existing skin, try it here:
and then paste the URL of the "Try It" page of that skin. Eons will automatically change the URL into a "View Link"

One of my favorite sites to make backgrounds is at studioludens with their repper: view link repper.studioludens.com/repper.html
It's fairly simple to use. You upload an image and then drag a little box around to see what kind of pattern you can create. You can resize the box by dragging at the corners. You can also click on at the top of the working space to choose between two pattern styles.
Here's one tilable design that was made there that is in a div (box) so that you can see how it tiles. Others will be in the replies. The patterns in this thread were made with a few photos of cats. These patterns have been uploaded to an album called - "Repper - tilable designs created from photos"

Backgrounds - eclipses, weather/ice, nature
I uploaded some new backgrounds to the photo section that are sized 1024px wide. The best way to see what is new is to view by "Date Added". We'd love to see what backgrounds you'd like to share, too. The Welcome sticky has more information about the choices of viewing the backgrounds and about sharing. New Cat Backgrounds
I struck it lucky today doing a search for images that are in the public domain. I've uploaded some cat backgrounds, They are all tile images. Some are the same image with different color backgrounds. They are in the "Animals and Insect" album. For some reason, this one caught my eye. I just love it! Have Fun!
More Translucent pngs Uploaded
I've added some more translucent images to the Opaque/translucent/transparent folder in the photo section of the group. Some are the same color, but with a different percent of opacity. If you see one you like, you are welcome to link to it for you're profile.

New Manager for the Eons Background Gallery
Under New ManagementTestofF8th asked to be removed as manager of the Eons Background Gallery, and MarketingGal posted a request: Looking for a New Manager. After time went by and no one else volunteered, I did. This was a great group when it was formed and helped lots of folks. There are folks who would like to see it become more active again.I send kudos to TestofF8th, Xsie and briansbabe for all the excellent work they've done in starting and working with this group. There are some great backgrounds that are available to use, and hopefully, there will be more added as time goes on.
There will be a little re-organization going on. However, feel free to browse through the backgrounds that are in the photo section and feel free to upload any new backgrounds you would like to share. You can put the images in albums that already exist, create an new album that describes the background, or the images can be moved to folders after they've been uploaded.
Just for starters, there are two basic things to keep in mind if you want to upload some background images:
1) Please don't upload any image unless you have the copyright, license or permission to share them.
2) Understand that there is no way to keep folks from downloading an image, so please don't place an image in the photo section that you are not willing for folks to download and use.
