Many of you have been asking about pouring. This is a new technique for me, the watercolor paint is poured onto the paper in layers, I found it very challenging since it is not the normal way I paint...The outcome was most satisfying....plus it complimented the original photograph which was taken at the Opus winery in Napa by a dear friend of mine...Basically you wet only the area where the paint is going to be applied, depending on the size of the paper, in a little cup mix color & water, then pour the paint onto paper and tilt paper to move the paint over the wet surface to cover (need to work quickly so surface doesn't dry, color will only stay in area that's wet, will not move into a area that's dry. The secret is to dry paper well between each pouring, repeat again with new color or same color(if not completely dry between pours the color will bloom.) The effects are amazing, great for doing large background instead of using a brush.. I even poured the paint for the stems..once every thing was dry I just took the brush and brushed on a line of water over the painted surface and dropped the dark brown on the bottom and tilted the paper to move the color up to create the stem..color only stayed on the wet line. Try it, I'd like to hear back from you...Also I'm hoping someone else in this group has tried this, I'd like to compare notes.
