The Eons Art School

The Eons Art School group is intended to be a learning environment for artists. New students who want to practice and improve their skills, intermediate artists wishing to refine their talent, and more accomplished artists who wish to share their experience and knowledge with others are all welcome here.

Every artist is encouraged to post a Work in Progress (WIP) in the photo section of the home page for the members to comment upon. Member artists looking for tips and instruction are asked to leave this WIP up for a period of time as someone will always respond given a little time to consider or research the issue.

Artists are also invited to instructional graphics on topics ranging from perspective issues, general anatomy, medium techniques and the like.

Discussion is for everyone- professional critiques are invaluable, but so are comments from other artists, experienced or not, who can offer a fresh eye and bring out points that may otherwise be taken for granted. Don't forget the advice given may not always be used for a particular work, but it can still help another who reads the posts.

After a certain period of time has elapsed, the entire conversation, images and dialog will be deleted from the general area and preserved in the “Files” section on the left side of the home page as a case instruction manual for anyone, at any time, to ponder at their own pace.

Be welcomed, and participate.

Eons Artists Gallery

This is a message for all members... from the NEWEST TO THE FOUNDERS of this group are encouraged to include yourself in the Gallery of Artists.

I decided to resurrect the web site I created for the old Eons Art Gallery and reinvent the Eons Artists Gallery. All the old links to your profiles are active again. The photo posted in our photo section is just a condensed version. New members of the Art School need simply to join the Artists Gallery Group to be included.

Please go to view link to see if (1) your link still works, and (2) if you have time note those who have left and PM me.

I still think this could work for the benefit of every Artist on Eons. If you aren't now a member of the Eons Artists Gallery and are past members of the Eons Art Gallery, you might want to PM me should you desire not to be included in this new format. If you are members of other groups of Artists, Photographers and were once interested in the all encompassing Gallery, or know of others who might wish to be included, perhaps you might spread the word to for them join the Eons Artists Gallery.

This is a whole lot of work on my part but I sincerely think that it was a good idea then and is a good idea now. Who knows, maybe you'll get some work from this Gallery. If you no longer wish to be associated with that particular web site, please PM me personally... And Rose, if you would, you might make D&P members aware of this message.

Sizing Your Photos for Eons Viewing

I can only speak from my experience with the equipment I use, which is a Hewlett Packard scanner with associated software. Using my HP scanner "Image Editor"(I suspect that any scanner has some form of Image Editor included in the software),click the "edit size" (or equivalent)in the image editor you have and reduce your photo to 2.2-3 inches on the short side. Then, to clarify all the details, click the resolution option(pixels/inch)to 600 DPI. Your short side will now (if you click back to check) indicate less than 1 inch, which is ideal for eons photo posting.

There seems to be unlimited posting space for photos on eons, so sequencing works in progress can be very helpful and informative for other artists...no matter what size the photos are.

November Exercise- Facial hair, et al

As a special project for our newest teacher, and because she mentioned lacking certain prowess in this area, I invite you all to draw, mouse or paint- as the Big Bad wolf is quoted to have said..."by the hair of my chinny chin-chin"...

Paint eyelashes on those eyes you drew last month, or a moustache under that nose you created last month, or above those lips you sketched last month, try eyebrows, different hair styles, partially bald heads, take out that prom or wedding photo from WAAAAAAAAAAAYYY back then and draw for us that "beehive" you once thought was the best fashion statement you ever saw in the mirror. Draw DAs, Elvis's dooo, military cuts( sometimes called sidewalls), dredlocks, pony tails, braids, "Shirley Temple" golden curls, peach fuzz, goa-tees, full beards, "Cookie Burns" sideburns, (Route 66, remember?). For grins and giggles, try ARM hair, or "knuckle hair" (I'm sure that the hair that grows between the knuckle and first joint of a man's hand has a name but I really don't know what it is)...

I want to see HAIR, not the Broadway play, nor of the "mons pubis" or an athlete's underarm. If we were European or Eons less restrictive, I might have included these since "nudes" aren't always portrayed with bikini-waxes. I am leaving this paragraph right now...

Try different media- water colors, oils, pen and ink, CGA artists- scan in a photo of someone without facial hair and create some or include a different hair style. You got the idea. And just as importantly, do me a favor. Reach out to one or two of the inactive members via a PM (private message) and invite them to try their hand at this exercise.

And so, Terry, HAIRRY UP, it's a short month...

Update on Studio Addition

view link

The construction is going on and I have posted photos on my WordPress blog, if anyone is interested There are several posts with updates, as well as one with the color palette and art windows.

I am going out of town on Monday for four days. It will be a much needed break from the sound of hammers, saws, powertools and a barking dog, a tooth abscess, as well as all the medical issues.

Btw, I was able to stay to a strict diet, stop taking ibuprofen, and my OTC vitamins and minerals, and I brought my kidney function back up to 38%, and stage 3 chronic kidney disease. That is very good news. I've got an opportunity to stay off dialysis, if I maintain the strict diet. Not easy.

All the noise will be worth it once I am in the functioning studio. I can hardly wait!

HELP

An art show that I've been waiting for has started back up again and I REALLY want to enter my Toe Tag piece. BUT they are requiring the work on a CD. I've never documented my work on a CD before....always on slide....and know how to do that.

Does anyone here understand how that works on a CD. Do I need to put the artwork and info into something like power point or exactly how do I do the documentation.

Fixative?

What kind of fixative should I apply to the portrait I drew for my friend? I have an old can of Krylon clear gloss finish latex enamel. Is that good to use? I've heard of people using hair spray, but I worry about the effects of time and humidity with that. Also, will applying a fixative get rid of the shiny reflections from the dark areas? Although I love that silvery sheen in her hair, it makes her face look really weird when you look at it from certain angles. I'm sure you experienced sketchers know what I'm talking about.

I tweaked the drawing a bit more and she's looking much better. I would scan her and post her again so that you can see the changes, but the scanned images just doesn't look as good as the real thing. Every time I scan it, I'm disappointed with the result and that makes me feel less confident about giving it to her. So, I'm not scanning it again. It's time to leave her alone and get her out of here.

Thanks and hugs to everyone for your help.
