The Eons Art School

The Eons Art School group is intended to be a learning environment for artists. New students who want to practice and improve their skills, intermediate artists wishing to refine their talent, and more accomplished artists who wish to share their experience and knowledge with others are all welcome here.

Every artist is encouraged to post a Work in Progress (WIP) in the photo section of the home page for the members to comment upon. Member artists looking for tips and instruction are asked to leave this WIP up for a period of time as someone will always respond given a little time to consider or research the issue.

Artists are also invited to instructional graphics on topics ranging from perspective issues, general anatomy, medium techniques and the like.

Discussion is for everyone- professional critiques are invaluable, but so are comments from other artists, experienced or not, who can offer a fresh eye and bring out points that may otherwise be taken for granted. Don't forget the advice given may not always be used for a particular work, but it can still help another who reads the posts.

After a certain period of time has elapsed, the entire conversation, images and dialog will be deleted from the general area and preserved in the “Files” section on the left side of the home page as a case instruction manual for anyone, at any time, to ponder at their own pace.

Be welcomed, and participate.

Sizing Your Photos for Eons Viewing

I can only speak from my experience with the equipment I use, which is a Hewlett Packard scanner with associated software. Using my HP scanner "Image Editor"(I suspect that any scanner has some form of Image Editor included in the software),click the "edit size" (or equivalent)in the image editor you have and reduce your photo to 2.2-3 inches on the short side. Then, to clarify all the details, click the resolution option(pixels/inch)to 600 DPI. Your short side will now (if you click back to check) indicate less than 1 inch, which is ideal for eons photo posting.

There seems to be unlimited posting space for photos on eons, so sequencing works in progress can be very helpful and informative for other artists...no matter what size the photos are.

Welcome to all the newest members, please read...

I invite you to take the time and dive into our files (stretching canvas, washes, dry brush techniques, etc) and view the photo section. After that, you might just want to view all messages concerning the exercises we attempt each month.

Please just don't post images showing us what you did at some point in your life, these should be in your profile. When posted here, I used to place them in folders in the Art School archives but this seemed to duplicate them and managing them became cumbersome for all concerned. Should an exercise delight you, I (we) expect that you attempt these in "real time" ( at your leisure ) but that they are works in progress, not something you did before joining the school. Otherwise, you won't learn anything completely new which may positively affect your technique from then on.

Participation is not required, but very, very, strongly suggested. You can also feel free to begin a "string" requesting instruction concerning a particular aspect or concern of yours ... as long as it remains art related.

Im still here

I have been working on many different drawings trying to improve. One almost finished and so (of course) a last minute change screwed it up..booohooo
The second-a landscape-yikes! im not much of a landscape artist.
Third-for some crazy reason I decided to try pet portraits. Now I can draw your basic, generic dog or cat but drawing someones beloved pet is a whole different kettle of fish! I think im nuts.haha

Tuscan

About a year ago we had an exercise to paint a sunrise or sunset landscape and to be sure and include a living breathing creature. Finally completing that one. This is my 2nd Tuscan attempt. According to my monitor the colors are way too dark on the screen and the greens way too vivid. Other than that, I need to complete the rooftops, the bottom 15 percent and the tree on the right.

There is a dog in the "garage" rolling around in the sunshine.

This is a good time for critique and I will post any recommended changes. Oh, and the customer request was for "folk art" to be a matching piece to one I did last year (Tuscan). It doesnt match but has the same feel. I can't paint that badly anymore. Thanks in advance.

Ruined?

I think I killed this with too much background noise. What do you think?

Free Art Class-Waterfalls

If anyone may be interested there is another free webinar starting this Saturday with Johannes Vloothuis painting waterfalls. To register view link and scroll to the bottom to register. On Saturday sign-on 1/2 hour early because they are popular. I have learned a lot of good things from him and I like his teaching style. This one covers different mediums.
