Petition to AARP: Help Us End SS Garnishments
Please consider signing this petition in support of asking AARP to recognize that student loans are an issue impacting even their constituents. If you're doubtful that people 50+ are being harmed by student loans, I urge you to read this petition, which fully explains how this is the case.

Kids off to prison
Our local charter grade school in MIchigan just sent their 10th kid to prison. How does this school stay open? This one killed two kids.
Passion for teaching
Teaching our kids is truly a pleasure and is never just a paycheck for me. I see my students grow everyday.

making the library friendlier
I am volunteering 20 hours a week at a local school. I spend most my time in the library, working with the children who use the library. I am distressed by the number of children who pick out books that are above their reading level, and their inability to find books suited for their reading level. This results in a child having to sit with a book s/he can not read for 15 boring minutes, feeling stupid and resentful about being forced to read. Most the children I observe having trouble, are bilingual, and English is their second language. It is unlike their parents can help them with reading English, and this school has many bilingual children. Instead of reading, a few of the boys are talking with each other and getting into trouble. It seems more is being done to help these children since I started commenting about the problem, but not the main project that I suggested.
I was told the books could be color coded for reading level, but it doesn't appear any action is being taken on getting this done. Is there information about color coding books for reading level that I might access? If I could just make it easier for the children to select the books at the right reading level for them, I would be so happy.

Experienced Educator?!!
Hello and thanks for allowing me to join this group! This is my 32nd year to teach and all of it in the same district which I live in--Abilene, Texas. Yep, people gripe and say the money is not good; but how many careers are there which can boast of being the basic reason in which we affect almost all people in the world? Teaching is an honorable profession and one in which I wouldn't trade for any other career in the world!!!

I am currently student teaching secondary PE at a local junior high and will graduate in May with a Bacherlor's in PE and a certificate to teach K-12 PE. Yes, I am probably he oldest PE student teacher on the planet, but am looking forward to the excitement of having my own school and my own kiddos. Until then, I will pursue a Master's in same subject, and possibly an PhD in Curriculum and Instruction. Any advice out there???

Sad Education Story
I was a donor to an area high school for almost two years.
I received this e-mail from the varsity volleyball coach with a vicious, rude and stupid comment about me. She meant to send it to the athletic department seceatary but it hit me in my inbox.
I contacted the principal immediately and he apologized. I spoke to him on the phone and wanted a face to face apology from this coach and a letter of apology as well.
He sayd "Fine." I did not hear back for two weeks so I stripped the school of my two annual scholarships worth, $200 and $500.
The principal is the only one to act responsibly. The coach had no intention of apologizing.
The superintendent was well aware of the stupidity and never phoned me, e-mailed me or wrote a letter of apology. He is new this year and never did a damn thing.
The students lose out on this coach and teacher at the middle school who refused to do the right thing.
