Sweetwaters Rhinos

Hi,
My husband & I did the Saving the Rhinos of Sweetwaters in Feb 2005 & absolutely loved it. Now we are going back again in Jan 2009 to do it with friends.

We got to do stuff that NOBODY normally gets to do in Africa as a tourist - like walk daily in the bush & pickup bones, feathers & scat. We also went on many night drives, the chimp reserve nearby & the cultural village at Sweetwaters AND spent 4 hours with a "tame" rhino as well.

If anyone has questions about it let me know.

Thanks, Melinda

Have been or going on Kenya Rhino expedition?

If you have been or are going to go on the "Saving Sweetwater's Rhinos" expedition, I'd love to hear from you.

My wife Melinda and I are returning there in Jan. 2009. We were first there in Feb. 2005. We are returning with two good friends (who have not been there and requested that we go back with them).

I would just enjoy chatting with those who have been to Sweetwaters or are going there in 2009

Hi Everyone! I just wanted to say that I just joined today and am waiting on material to come to me in the mail about volunteering.
I am hoping to go to Africa and work with elephants. If anyone can share their experiences with me, please feel free to write me.

Thank you!

Walking with African Wildlife

Has anyone out there done this expedition? I am signing up, but would love to know a little more about the demands of walking the transects- how difficult is the walking, what kind of terrain, etc.
Thank you!

Books to get you in the mood

I haven't volunteered on the Cheetah project but I have done both the Lions and Elephants of Tsavo. Reading The Cheetah Chase by Karen McQuillan really brought it all back. Her descriptions of the wildlife and landscape are spot on. This book really made me want to go back and volunteer at the Cheetah Reserve. Now I have to go back and read her other books.

Brown Hyena project

Hi,All,

I am headed to Southafrica in January to join the Brown Hyena research team.

Anyone out there who has done this and can give me some insight that could make my trip even better?

Do I really need a sleeping bag in January or will a fleece liner do?

Thanks!

Ok, I finally did it! I've signed up for the Meerkat expedition in September. If anyone has any suggestions or advice I'd really appreciate it.

Cheetahs anyone?

Hi, I am a past Cheetah Project volunteer in Namibia (March 2001). If anyone can say that Earthwatch changed his/her life, that would be me. After that project, I never left the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF). I was hooked as soon as I realized what an intelligent approach CCF has: you have to help people in order to conserve wildlife. If you'd like to learn about my experience with CCF, you can visit my web site, www.geocities.com/crocsetal and click on Working with Cheetahs. I think cheetahs are amazing, and I thank Earthwatch for having introduced me to this amazing project.
