Housebreaking a new puppy
My husband and I adopted an 8 wk.
puppy; he is half black lab and half
German Shepard. He is coming along
nicely, but the house-breaking is
a small problem, especially the urine
part. Any recommendations from anyone? We do crate him, but he
doesnt like being in there after waking
up from naps.
Also, he is mouthing and his teeth are
just so sharp. I've tried lots of things,
and nothing is working.
He eats, plays, sleeps well. May I add
that he wants to go to bed around
7:30pm. He gets up around 4am, to use
potty, back to his crate till 5:30 when
he wants to eat breakfast. Sometimes
he will go back to his crate to sleep
only till 6:30. Will this schedule ever
change? Any pros know what to do?
Thanks

Cocker Spaniel
I'm a new member and have been enjoying reading all the posts from other dog lovers.
I do not have a special friend yet, but am looking at rescue groups to adopt. I live in a community that limits the size of dogs allowed to 40 pounds. I have been looking at Cockers and would like to hear from anyone who has one, esp. any from a rescue.

Chihuahua lover
I'm so happy to be in this group and I love this website! In our almost 32 years of marriage, we started out with our beloved Ming, a Shihztu, which I received as a birthday present a month after we were married. He was such a wonderful dog, easily could have been a show dog with being groomed regularly and having his sweet little topknot. We loved him for 10 1/2 years when he passed on in my arms. I still miss him to this day. After Mingee, we had another dog, FeeWee, and after he passed, a precious Maine Coon kitten. We had Tia Marie for 11 years also when she passed on. She was beautiful! After being raised with chihuahuas' as a child, I longed for another one after all those years, and then came Daphne Louise. She's 3 1/4 years old, absolutely spoiled, and as cute and sweet as she can be. We've enjoyed her so much. Hoping to hear from other chihuahua lovers!

Our Boy Balto
Hi! I'm new to Eons and very pleased to be joining this group! The center of attention at our house since Feb.14th, 2006 is Balto Chinook. I have posted pictures on the group site if any one is interested. Balto is our 10 month old Malamute/ Timber Wolf mix. He has had and is still receiving formal training (how formal is formal?) and contrary to popular belief, is the gentlest, most loving dog I have ever had. He is very "pack" orientated and loves to be in the middle of the grand-kids when they are here. He has seen both my husband and I through heart surgeries and spent days at the foot of our bed during recovery. I couldn't get that kind of loyalty from my own kids! He is truly my "Funny Valentine!"
Bichon
I dearly love my dogs, so this must be the group for me. Two years ago, I got a Papillion and a Bichon at about the same time. The breeder just gave me the Bichon because she was born with congestived heart failure. She was quite a character, as Bichons are, and sometimes was too much for the Papillion. I even caught Lacy (the Bichon) with Tia's leash in her mouth and dragging her all over the yard. Unfortunately, Lacy dug some chocolate out of my purse in the night, and I found her dead on the couch the next day when I got home from school. She was still very warm, so I hurried down to the vet's office, and they could have shocked her back, but her life would never have been the same, so I let her go. It was awful. However, the other dog has taken on a lot of the other's behavior, and it has been quite interesting to watch. I will try to upload pictures later.

Two Dobermans & Two Chihuahuas
Hello, Everyone,
I am happy to be here with you all. I live in Myrtle Beach, SC but am originally from Illinois. My husband and I have always had four dogs: two Dobies and two Chihuahuas to be exact. You know? They all get along beautifully; each one believes it is as big and strong or little and cute as the next one. We are on our second generation of like dogs as our former ones lived long, happy, loving lives until their deaths. All of them passed with in a year of each other, and here we are again doing the same thing all over: they're all about the same age.
Andy Joe is our newest Dobe pup; he's ten months old, huge, and so silly. What a kick we get out of him. He's so funny. He will even smile for a picture!
Maggie Mae is our second Maggie Mae Dobe; she is two years old and so sweet. She's adorable and so loving.
Chelsea Catherine is our second Chelsea Catherine Chihuahua. She looks just like Chelsea #1, and we love her very much. She'll be four years old in January.
Chloe Anne is four as of September. She is a Chihuahua, and so possessive and bossy! I think she is spoiled a tiny bit. You see my students got her for me when Chelsea #1 passed. Chloe was six weeks old when they gave her to me early one morning before school began. She is wonderful, too, and loves to give hugs and kisses.
All of our dogs are special to us. We have no children - never did - so our dogs were/are our children. We expect them to live long healthy lives just like our first generation dogs did.

Rescue Dogs
Hello,
My wife decided to surprise me this past summer, for she knew I am a dog person at heart and with two cats, well we co-exist most of the time.
The dog she got for me was as the subject says a rescue, she was about one year old and barked at me the first time she saw me, almost like she was going to attack. It took about 5 minutes and a few dog treats for her to come close enough to trust me at that time.
We could tell that she had some abuse by her actions and how she would duck at sudden movements. The place where we adopted her told us that they had her for nearly four months and no one really wanted her. She is a good looking dog, for she is a cross between a terrier, poodle, collie, and I seem to thing sheep dog is in there as well.
It took her one night to bond with me, even after seeing how terrified she was, she took to me like we had been together for quite some time. From that point forward, she let everyone know that I was her human and no one was going to take her away from me.
I haven't trained her for any tricks, but she does seem to act like she is house broken, for in the short time we have had her she has had only one "accident", but that was due to the dog food that we gave her to eat.
She has turned out to be a good dog for me, since she has learned what I do expect by way of her behavior, although she tends to play a little rougher than what she intends. Since I am on blood thinners it does not take much for her to draw blood on my arm. After she sees the blood she will go off and pout because she actually believes that she has hurt me.
Okay, I have rambled enough about Dharma (the name we gave her because she did not look anywhere like a 'Holly'). For me it took only a week for her to learn her new name which being a year old really surprised me that she would respond that quickly.
Cheers!
David
