Please share this with everyone!!!

Please share this with everyone!!!
This was posted in a sticky note in one of my other groups, and I thought "What a good idea!!" Now then, if everyone who reads it here shares it with another group they're in, and so on, just imagine how much Christmas Cheer that would bring to a bunch of people that certainly deserve it!!!

****When doing your Christmas cards, address one to : A Recovering American Soldier c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center 6900 Georgia Avenue NW; Washington, D.C. 20307. If we pass this on, think of how many cards these wonderful special people would get.

Any Pom owners?

My little Pom, Sugar Bear, goes into what we call the "bezerks". She'll be walking along & suddenly her tail & rear end go down & she runs in circles as fast as she can round & round the coffee table. She has a look of pure joy. Then she stops as fast as she started & very calmly walks away. My other dog watches with a puzzled look on her face. Does anybody else's Pom do this? Is it a Pom trait or is it just my little weirdo?

Platform bed question

I have a malamute (16 months, so a lot of puppy still) that chews things. He stays out in an outside kennel when we are not home that is covered, but has water run into it so the floor ends up wet. I would like to make a raised platform that he could lay on. However, I have no idea what to use that he can't chew/eat.

We thought of concrete board, but were afraid he could hurt himself with that. Also the hard plastic decking, but the people at the store thought he could chew that up. My son suggested a steel plate (with rounded edges) put up on some pipes to get it a couple of inches off the ground. That seemed the best, but metal conducts cold, so would be cold for him. I can't add bedding or he would have it eaten in a few hours (and I do mean eaten as well a chewed up). Wood is out, he loves that (even in the form of my end table).

He has a large Igloo dog house (and he chews the edge of the doorway), but doesn't use it a lot, he likes to lay outside. He has chew toys in there with him, and he chews on them, but that would not protect anything else that we put in.

Anyone have any ideas???

Dog Biscuit Recipes

Here's one to share - please add your own!

2.5 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup powdered dry milk
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder (not onion!)
6 Tbsp. margerine, shortening or drippings
1 egg beaten
1 tsp. brown sugar
1/2 cup ice water

Preheat oven to 350. Combine dry ingredients. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles cornmeal. Mix in egg. Add enough water so mixture forms a ball. Pat out dough 1/2 inch thick with your fingers on lightly oiled cookie sheet.
Cut with dog bone shaped cookie cutter or use a knife to cut in a bone shape. Bake 25-30 min. Remove from oven and cool on rack.

Cuz you have a bad dog!

This is too cute not to share.

The collie (Kenzy) in the video is a blind tri from Houston Collie Rescue.
She came in with 9 puppies and was a wonderful mom. This is from her
adopter who also works with KC sheltie rescue. They also adopted a blind
blue merle sheltie pup and named him Stevie "Wonder". Kenzy and Stevie are
best buddies. The adopters put a bell on Wendy, another one of their
shelties collar, so Kenzy and Stevie can follow her around for training.

You must pay close attention to the
words of the song while watching the video. The lyrics are so funny and true
to Stevie and any puppy! The song just captured me, I laugh everytime I hear
it!

Old dogs, not such new tricks

George Richards & Hummel at Dachshund Speciality 2009 from John Richards on Vimeo.

The handler here is 97 and a half years old. The dog is in the Utility B class and won it. For those not familiar with AKC obedience trials, a dog has to earn three qualifying scores in the Novice class and earn a Companion Dog (CD) title before it can compete in Open obedience classes. It then must earn three qualifying scores in the Open to earn the Companion Dog Excellent (CDX) title to make it eligible to compete in the Utility classes. Once the dog earns three qualifying scores it earns the Utility dog title and can continue to compete in Open B and Utility B classes. This little dog learned off-lead obedience, broad, high and bar jumps, dumbbell retrieves, directed retrieves, hand signals (no voice commands), and scent discrimination, to name some of the many things that this team had to master to earn qualifying scores.

Where will you be when you are 97? Sitting home and watching TV or out pursuing your dreams? I hope you get as much joy from watching this team as I did.
