Blessing of the Animals
Today I am taking Mikey to be blessed at the "Blessing of the Animals" event in our neighborhood. This event is in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, who was an animal lover. Since Mikey bit the groomer on Friday, I will do anything to get those little "puppy demons" out of him.
Seriously, now that he is 7 months old I feel some of his craziness should be going away. He was neutered at 6 months and I can honestly say the procedure did not phase him.
I believe the problem is that he is the only dog and is spoiled rotten. (No, I am not willing to get another dog.)

Happy Monday !
Hi, I hope everyone had a good weekend. The hubby and I took Meisha and Halo for a walk at a local lake. Halo did great of course, she still thinks she's about 2 even though she's 10. Meisha did real good for an old girl with chf and other problems. When she got tired my hubby carried her and we went back to the car and they got some water. Meisha was really tired, but I think she was happy to be able to walk someplace other than home. She still seems to be doing good today, for that I am greatful.
Jillian and Tucker went to church!
Yesterday my church had the blessing of the animals. It was so nice to have my dogs with me since I have no family left. Jillian and Tucker were good as gold. Jillian even seem know when to stand and sit Hymns stand and lessons and sermon sit. Tucker came in his red wagon as the cement floor is cold and to hard for a old guy like Tucker who is 13. At communion the 3 of us went forward and Jillian and Tucker received a blessed cookie. At the end the the service all of us stood at the altar for a blessing prayer and sprinkled with holy water. Dogs about 12 didn't seem to mind, but the two cats didn't look to happy. It was a beautiful day. We were all invited in the parish hall for coffee hour. Everyone got a long fine. Till a yellow lab who had been tied outside was brought in. She and Jillian had a few words which I didn't expect as they had been very polite at the entrance to the church. Jillian made me spill my coffee a bit. My job every Sunday is clean up from coffee hour so when everyone was gone Jillian and Tucker loved roaming the parish hall while I ran the dishwasher. It was a very special day for all of us. We all went to a short walk in our church neighborhood which was new for Tucker in his wagon. He really seem to enjoy it. Both Jillian and Tucker slept good when we go home. Will post pictures when my friend gives me pictures. Did anyone else get their animals blessed?
Socializing of dogs
I have a serious issue that I need help in resolving. I have just moved in with my daughter and her family where I have, for the most part, my own living quarters. The issue is that they have two young (less than 2 years old) lab/golden retriever dogs and I have a old (almost 13 years old) lab/golden mix and we are having problems with their socializing. My dog, Thelma, has been the only dog in the household for the majority of her life, with the exception of about a six month period where she was in my brother's household that had 3 dogs and a cat. She seemed to get along very well with 2 of the 3 dogs with the one that she didn't get along with being a lab/golden who is about 6 years younger than her. Now she is having problems with my daughter's two dogs, to the point where they have drawn blood during a fight this evening. From what I can observe, Thelma feels threatened when she is in an enclosed space (under the kitchen table for instance) or when there is food involved. I'm not sure why the problem is with the food because the dogs get fed separately. I have noticed that if one of the kids drops food on the floor during dinner and Thelma comes upon it first, she will turn, with teeth bared and growling at the other two as well as if I am giving them a "cookie" I have to hold Thelma's collar so she doesn't lunge at either of the other two. Tonight prompted the worst of the fights, with Thelma coming out on the bad end of the fight with cuts above her eye, below her eye and around the mouth. She has arthritis and moves slowly most of the time but she certainly gave back what she was getting. Unfortunately there are small kids in the house (the youngest being 2) and I am scared to death that one of the kids will be in the middle of a fight before they can see it coming and get hurt. I had no other way to break up the fight but to throw the laundry basket between the two of them -- fortunately I was able to do so without putting myself in the middle of the fight. I have separated the dogs for the evening -- my daughter and her husband are out of town on business for the next day or two -- but I need some help in resolving this issue before someone -- be it dog or human -- gets hurt. For the time being Thelma is downstairs in my living area but I can't keep them apart indefinitely. Any suggestions?
Thanks
