JR MOTORSPORTS

JR MOTORSPPORTS
Dale Earnhardt Jr. revealed Thursday that he is now sharing ownership of JR Motorsports with his sister and long time business manager Kelly and his cousin and former Sprint Cup crew chief Tony Eury Jr.

Earnhardt was in Las Vegas, site of this week’s champion’s celebration, to accept his seventh consecutive Most Popular Driver Award. He talked with reporters afterwards about his season and the future of the race team he owns with his current NASCAR Sprint Cup boss Rick Hendrick.

Besides the ownership revelation Earnhardt said the JR Motorsports team, which competes in NASCAR’s Nationwide Series, was in ‘dire need’ of sponsorship and in fact at this point won’t even be able to run an entire season with driver Kelly Bires who took over for Brad Keselowski who is heading to Penske Racing next season. Longtime sponsor GoDaddy.com is moving to the Hendrick Motorsports No. 5 Sprint Cup series with driver Mark Martin..
Gee he got Eury a big deal cuz "its family" Lucky dude !!.

Just Dale Kelly running the show on Danica

AWARDSLAS VEGAS – Rick Hendrick and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are among the co-owners of JR Motorsports, but they are letting Kelley Earnhardt – the team general manager and one of two new co-owners of the team – handle the negotiations with IndyCar Series driver Danica Patrick concerning running a partial schedule next season in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

Speaking following the annual NASCAR NMPA Myers Brothers Awards ceremony, Earnhardt Jr. said he doesn’t know the latest details on whether the organization is close to signing Patrick with the team. The team is considered the frontrunner to land the 27-year-old open-wheel standout for a NASCAR ride

“It’s still sort of in the negotiations stages,” said Earnhardt Jr., who also revealed that his sister Kelley as well as cousin Tony Eury Jr. now own pieces of the team. “Her and my sister, I guess, are managing that entirely. I have not been in any way, shape or form involved. … She wants to see what’s up. It will happen when she wants it to happen.

“I haven’t spent time with her. I’m not in the middle of it at all. Y’all know she has had interest. She has talked to her company. Her and my sister are the only ones that have any dialogue back and forth.”

Hendrick, speaking prior to the awards ceremony, said he also has little insight into any new developments.

“You need to talk to [JR Motorsports general manager] Kelley Earnhardt,” said Hendrick. “She runs that deal up there. I’m a partner but I don’t run that deal. That’s the honest to goodness truth. I support them and I’m a partner, but that’s her call.”

Patrick recently announced an agreement to drive in the Izod IndyCar Series for Andretti Autosport next season and is under contract for two years with a joint option for a third year. But Patrick’s own Web site posted a headshot for a couple of hours Monday that showed Patrick in a JR Motorsports uniform...

“You guys don’t even need those kind of things to figure out what’s going on a lot of times,” Earnhardt Jr. said about the photo. “But I can’t help you.”

Earnhardt Jr. said Patrick will be in a stock car, and likely soon.

“She’s going to drive stock cars for somebody someday,” he said. “Look at all the Formula One guys over here looking around checking it out. The writing is on the wall for her and several other guys.

“It’s exciting. She would be great for our sport.”

Hendrick agreed. Patrick, one of the most notable female racers in the world, has one IndyCar victory in her career, which came in Japan in 2008. She finished fifth in the IndyCar standings in 2009.

“I think it could be a really good thing, especially with Kelley,” Hendrick said of JR Motorsports landing Patrick. “Kelley is such a talent, I think, from a marketing side and if it works out, I think Danica’s got talent. So why wouldn’t they do that?”

Hendrick said he voices his opinion about matters such as the potential of signing of Patrick only “if they ask me.”

Asked if his opinion has been sought, he said “sometimes.”

“It’s 100 percent in Kelley’s court,” Hendrick said. “She’s looked at the options and I support her in whatever she wants to do there. And I actually haven’t talked to her about that in two weeks. … That’s kind of one of those deals that if it fits, if it works. If we can do the races, if [Patrick] wants to, if Kelley wants to, it’s not something that I’m involved in.”

Hendrick doesn’t believe bringing Patrick into the fold could be a potential distraction for Earnhardt Jr., who competes for Hendrick in the Sprint Cup Series.

Earnhardt Jr. is coming off a disappointing season in which he finished 25th in the Cup standings and failed to win a race.

“I don’t think that would be a distraction to Junior,” Hendrick said. “ ... The [Nationwide] team, he basically lets Kelley run that. Junior doesn’t have to get involved in that.”

JUNIORS AWARD

AWARDSEarnhardt again wins most popular award

LAS VEGAS — Dale Earnhardt Jr. is NASCAR's most popular driver for the seventh consecutive year.
Earnhardt's win keeps him at third on the career list behind Bill Elliott's record 16 times selected as the most popular driver, and Richard Petty, who won the award nine times. The award, which is sponsored by Chex and presented by the National Motorsports Press Association, has been given since 1965 and voted on by fans.

Earnhardt, who is not part of the 12 drivers being celebrated this weekend in Las Vegas, took some time to get to the stage during Thursday's awards ceremony.

"They nearly stuck me up there in the top row," he said after finally getting to the podium.

"I take a lot of honor in (the award) it and a lot of pride. I know it's kind of a cliche, but I just wanted to be a race-car driver, wanted to be able to make a living showing up, driving cars every week. Having the fan support like I have has been an incredible bonus for me.

"I can't thank them enough, so I guess I'll just keep showing up."

Earnhardt, in his second season with Hendrick Motorsports, finished 25th in the standings. His Hendrick teammates went 1-2-3, as Jimmie Johnson won his fourth straight championship to lead the sweep.

Earnhardt flew to Las Vegas just in time to accept the award, and planned to leave immediately after. Because of his hectic travel schedule, he said he's trying to have a quiet offseason with friends and family and enjoy the new home he built and moved into about two weeks ago.

But he didn't consider skipping the ceremony -- something he did several years ago when he accepted the award via taped message. Earnhardt said he "learned my lesson" after receiving a good bit of backlash for not showing up in person.

"I understand how important it is to accept it in person," he said. "There's a big sense of that I earned this, that I deserve this because of my family name. My father, he gave me a hell of a gift in popularity, so my job has been to try to be an asset to the sport and to maintain that gift and it's integrity. The name that my father has built, the Earnhardt name, and the respect that it has.

"So there's a lot of emotions that run through when I accept the award.

JUNIOR WINS THE MOST POPULAAR again 7 yrs

Earnhardt Jr. Scores 7th NMPA Chex Most Popular Driver Honor
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Dec. 3, 2009) – Dale Earnhardt Jr. was awarded his seventh consecutive NASCAR NMPA Chex Most Popular Driver award Thursday in Las Vegas, announced at the NASCAR NMPA Myers Brothers Awards event at The Venetian Las Vegas Hotel Casino. The result was determined by online voting during the course of the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup season. The award comes one week after Brad Keselowski was named Most Popular Driver in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, giving the JR Motorsports owner/driver tandem its second consecutive sweep of most popular awards.

Earnhardt Jr. joins Bill Elliott and Richard Petty as the only drivers to win the award at least seven times. His seven in a row falls short only to Elliott, who won 10 straight from 1991-2000. Earnhardt Jr. now sits behind Elliott (16) and Richard Petty (9) for most total awards.

“I’m extremely honored to win this award again, and I’m happy for Brad to be able to win it again in the Nationwide Series,” said Earnhardt Jr., who drives the No. 88 Amp Energy/National Guard Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports. “As always, I want to thank the fans. They’ve stuck with us, and I’m always humbled by that. We didn’t have the year we were expecting on the Cup side, but Brad and Tony Eury Sr. and everyone at JR Motorsports did a great job this year on the Nationwide side, scored a bunch of wins, and I’m proud of all of them.”

Driving the No. 88 GoDaddy.com/Hellmann’s Chevrolets in his final year with JR Motorsports, Keselowski finished third in the Nationwide Series points standings with four wins and 22 top-five finishes. Keselowski earned his Most Popular Driver honor during the Nationwide Series banquet at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel on Nov. 23rd. He becomes only the fourth racer to win consecutive Nationwide Series Most Popular Driver Awards.

“It’s an honor just to compete in this series and for JR Motorsports.” Keselowski said. “One of the biggest things I’ve learned over the last few years is how awesome our fans are. There’s no sport on this planet that can rival NASCAR racing and its fan base. It’s amazing to have those fans. To get their vote as most popular driver is truly an honor.” (JR Motorsports)

THE GOLDEN EARNHARDTS HAND

Steve Arpin Grateful for Dale Earnhardt Jr’s Comments

When Dale Earnhardt, Jr. speaks, people listen. ARCA RE/MAX Series driver Steve Arpin is finding that out.
“It’s kind of funny you called about that,” said Arpin. “Since Monday, my phone’s been ringing off the hook.”

Arpin is referring to comments Earnhardt made, first published at usatoday.com, regarding Arpin’s future.
“Carl Edwards came to me in the middle of the season and said, ‘You need to look at this guy (Arpin).’ I’d love to put him in the 5 car fulltime but I can’t find any money for it,” said Earnhardt.

While finding sponsorship in this economy is challenging no matter what your last name is, it still doesn’t hurt to have an Earnhardt, or a Carl Edwards, speak out on your behalf.
“It’s absolutely incredible,” added Arpin. “I just got off the phone with the Toronto Star. I’ve heard from a ton of media, a lot of Canadian media. To be honest with you, that’s how I first found out about it (Earnhardt’s comments).
“It’s so incredible, overwhelming for a guy like that with his enormous stature, that he’s willing to help me try and get to that next level.”
