Lovin' my George

Well, I am new to all of it!! My George is educating me. He is so full of love and always underfoot and at my feet if not in my lap. He is 8 months old and King of the Roost. Believe me!!He finds such "interest" in his tail..keeps us laffing for awhile. And he watches TV with me each evening and is right at my side whatever I do. Now how can I compare a love like that? He evens keeps my cat in line...and that is truly a mighty feat! I am so glad to belong to him!!!

Since Dad insists on dragging his 3rd grade picture out, here's one of me when I first learned to play tennis.

No one's posting...

...what, no good weenie stories out there? Can't believe that! I know my two dachshunds are sure glad spring (and all the mud) is here. They actually go to the door now instead of me booting them out of it. Can't wait to get out there and start cleaning up all the piles of poop that have come to the surface...yipee.

Hello all

Sorry I haven't be contributing much lately. I've been going to "For The Luv of Dogs" in the Travel group. I had my baby 'boy', Puppet, nuetered last Friday. I'd never had a dog nuetered before. He wasn't a happy camper for a day or two, but he's fine now. He had more trouble than my baby 'girl', Missy, did when I had her spayed, and her operation much more invasive. But all is well now.
I sure wish this weather would break! Very cold again with 2 to 4 inches of snow predicted for tonight and tomorrow. I'm soooooooo ready for spring! I can't wait to go camping in my new (new to me, anyway) RV with my babies.

Soft Harness

Hi Folks,

I purchased a Dachshund harness for Charlie The Weenie Dog from our friend Texasdoxies.

Just wanted to let everyone know how pleased I am with it. It fit perfectly (she makes them to order/size) and the craftsmanship/tailoring is second to none.

Charlie likes it so much that he doesn't want to take it off after we go for a walk.

So if you are considering a soft harness for your Doxie this one has my reccomendation and the proceedes go to a good cause (Dachshund Rescue) too.

"snorting"

The vet showed me a diagram, there is a flap that doesn't close, sometimes gently massaging the throat helps. Once they swallow they are ok. It makes it worse because they get scared and then hyperventilate. My Doxie doesn't do it, but my shih tzu and my daughter's Boston Terrier do. It is usually the shorter nosed dogs. The Boston eats so fast he takes in air.
Something that helps is having the food and water bowls raised. I had seen them in pet shops and online, but they were so expensive. My husband made one for them. It's better in every way to have the bowls raised. I

Puppet's head

Hello all;
I got told Thursday by another dachshund owner that my handsome male dachshund's head was too big and his nose was not long enough and was too 'boxy' for him to be a full-blooded Doxie. I used to wonder about that, too, but I went into some of the dachshund websites and saw pictures from the 'olden days' of regular dachshunds, and they looked just like him. I tell detractor that, but they aren't convinced. Well, sometimes I think maybe Puppet has a beagle in his background somewhere (he can't be registered), but you know what? I do not care one iota!!!!! He is the most perfect dog I've ever owned!!!!!
His companion, Missy, was breed for beauty in a puppy mill, and she is indeed lovely and has her own great personality and no one ever questions her background.
I love them both dearly and don't appreciate people critizing Puppet for maybe not being a pure breed, but I guess that's just vanity on my part. If a dog is perfect in personality and as a companion, what else matters?

Thank you!

Thank you for uderstanding how I feel when someone critizes my perfect baby boy. Really, I don't think they were critizing Puppet, I think they were just making an observation. However, a fellow dachshund owner should know better!
I have to get back with the lady who makes the harnesses with my Doxie's neck and chest sizes; I've procrastenated on that--bad me!
I take Puppet to the vet's at the end of the week to get him nuetered and microchiped. Missy has never stayed home by herself all day before; she isn't going to like it at all. I'm considering putting her in her kennel, but I've never made her stay in her kennel that long, either. I keep both of them in the kitchen when I'm not at home. When I've taken Puppet places and left her in the kitchen alone before, she upset the water and feed bowls and basically made a big mess. If I had enough vacation time, I'd take a vacation day Friday!

Soft Harnesses

Hello all!
I'm ordering the soft harnesses for my 2 Doxies. I know when I went for long walks with Puppet in the spring/summer/fall, he would pull on his leash and choke himself. Now that I'm getting an RV and putting it on a permanent site that has a bike/hike trail behind it, I'll be walking them more often. The harnesses will make the walks more comfortable for my babies.
Thanks for the info!
