Welcome, to Current Events & Politics

The Amazingly Compact Member Guide

v 0.7

1. I expect everyone to act their age. Arguments are fine, insults are not. Multiple violations will result in negative consequences.

2. Just because someone dangles bait in front of your face doesn't mean you have to swallow it. This is not about who gets the last word in or who can be a bigger jerk. Act like your Mama raised you right.

3. Sweeping generalizations such as "all you Republicans" or "those liberals" or whatever are to be avoided. Such generalizations are almost always wrong, and are usually just indirect insults. (See Rule #1 above.)

4. Please do not cross-post. (Place the same message in more than one group) It just wastes space, and reduces the “signal to noise ratio.”

5. When starting a new topic, please place all text beyond the first couple of paragraphs in the first reply.

6. Over in the Files Section there is a Document Reference Page, (an HTML page that your browser can open) with links to The Constitution, The Federalist Papers, etc. Feel free to use them or to suggest additions to the page.

Above all, let’s keep it enjoyable!

Silas

watch their other hand.

So we had deregulation and that brings forth greed. So our Congress steps in to save the day. Now our congress nobles would not break the letter of the law. But similar to the half million dollar spa vacation AIG took they come awfully close and demonstrate their arrogance. At least five members of Congress who sit on the agriculture committees that are writing the new farm policy receive thousands of dollars in farm subsidies each year.
For his 710-acre farm, Mr. Grassley received $110,935 in subsidies from 1996 to 2000. (Peanuts when compared to) But Sen. Grassley is furious that Dr. Nemeroff, earned $2.8 million in fees from 2000 to 2007, and had at one point consulted for 21 drug and device companies. I also trust hat Dr, Nemeroff has not broken the letter of the law either. Sen.Grassley, Republican of Iowa, patron saint of whistleblowers, would-be regulator of hedge funds and now-seemingly prescient critic of the Securities and Exchange Commission, has, since this past spring, been investigating drug makers’ payments to prominent psychiatrists whose research bears the imprimatur of prestigious universities that frequently receive federal grant money. So the citizens of this country have now to allow the present nobles of congress decide about re-regulation. Why don’t they start with themselves let them live on their salaries.

Looks like Sarah, now, has a problem!

Alaska panel finds Palin abused power in firing

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded Friday. The politically charged inquiry imperiled her reputation as a reformer on John McCain's Republican ticket.

Obama Already Negotiating with Hezbollah and Iran

Obama Already Negotiating with Hezbollah and Iran

May 14th Mr. Obama visited Michigan and spoke to a group of 20 local leaders, but decided to give a special private audience to the head of the Islamic Center of America Imam Hassan Qazwini. For Obama to be chatting in a one-on-one with Qazwini, is equivalent to meeting with Ayatollah Khomeini’s, and Hezbollahs’ representative in America!

Obama's Magic?

Obama's Magic

By KIMBERLEY A. STRASSEL

And now, America, we introduce the Great Obama! The world's most gifted political magician! A thing of wonder. A thing of awe. Just watch him defy politics, economics, even gravity! (And hold your applause until the end, please.)

To kick off our show tonight, Mr. Obama will give 95% of American working families a tax cut, even though 40% of Americans today don't pay income taxes! How can our star enact such mathemagic? How can he "cut" zero? Abracadabra! It's called a "refundable tax credit." It involves the federal government taking money from those who do pay taxes, and writing checks to those who don't. Yes, yes, in the real world this is known as "welfare," but please try not to ruin the show.

For his next trick, the Great Obama will jumpstart the economy, and he'll do it by raising taxes on the very businesses that are today adrift in a financial tsunami! That will include all those among the top 1% of taxpayers who are in fact small-business owners, and the nation's biggest employers who currently pay some of the highest corporate tax rates in the developed world. Mr. Obama will, with a flick of his fingers, show them how to create more jobs with less money. It's simple, really. He has a wand.

catch 22

Let me get this right We have been holding 17 Chinese at the Guantanamo “prison camp without charges for 7 years. Why does this feel like an un-American value to me? The Pres Bush appeals saying that to release them could mean that the Chinese government might imprison them so it is better to let them to stay imprisoned at our “prison camp” No a doubt that our prisons must be a hotel next to china’s but is I just me or is the entire thought process screwy. Legal term. Don’t we have a law or is it the fourth Amendment, habeas corpus. we want to set them free we have no evidence against them, but we have a belief that setting them free might cause harm to them so let’s keep them locked up.
yichel (I read that these 17 were not involved in any anti american activity)

HOW DO YOU SEE IT?

Recently, the United Nations General Assembly began considering a resolution sponsored by the 57-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) under the altruistic title of “Combating Defamation of Religion.” Supporters claim its goal is to stamp out “incitement to religious hatred, against Islam and Muslims in particular.” Of course, Muslims are at liberty to incite hatred and violence against other religions and infidels. Felice Gaer, chairman of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, a bipartisan federal body, says it’s clear that the OIC countries are attempting to “mainstream” prohibitions on any speech that could be considered critical of Islam. So when Muslims take to the streets with signs reading BEHEAD THOSE WHO INSULT ISLAM, it would be insensitive of us to suggest that perhaps Islam is a factor in breeding violence. Hmm?
Iman Abdelali Hamdoune revealed the goal of Islam when he urged the Muslim faithful:
“Do not permit your children to follow the example of the French. They should comport themselves in a totally different manner than the French. Here in France we have to impose ourselves, and impose Islam.”
How long before this imposition occurs in America?

RESTRAIN ENTITLEMENTS

Beware...the conservatives in Washington and the financial wizards on Wall Street are on the march again and are beating the same old drum....Social Security cut backs.

For those not up to date on the jibber jabber in Washington and on Wall Street eliminating or cutting back on Social Security is referred to as:

"RESTRAIN ENTITLEMENTS"

These people have never been in a neighborhood meat market were a senior will ask the butcher "How much is one pork chop?" We all know the answer to that question...if you have to ask you can't afford it.

I end my commentary with the famous retort of Cramer from "Mad Money" when he refers to Bernake and other people who are involved in the Feds by stating;

"THEY KNOW NOTHING"
