crock pot and slow cooking update 2

Well, winter has struck New England. Last week snow and ice and today I took the dog at 7 AM when it was 6 degrees outside with a ferocious wind. Not my idea of a good time at 7 AM.
I have used my new slow cooker 3 times with only one winning recipe out of the three. I also bought the Not Your Mother's Sow Cooker cookbook with the crock pot. The winning recipe was the Beef Stew that was delicious on the first night and even better as leftovers. Its great to have a
hearty dinner like that in this weather. Thanks for all the posts on slow cooking in response to my question in the early days of eons. Stay warm and off the ice!

Cock pots

Hello All,

Thank you for all your responses to my earlier questions about crock pots. Based on your comments I took the plunge and bought a 61/2 qt one with electonic settings. Now I am in search of a good cookbook for crock pot cooking. I don't want one with lots of canned soup recipes. I have been on Amazon and read some reviews of books that looked good. Now I am asking this panel of actual crock pot users for their favorite recipes and cook book recommendations.
Its been so warm in Boston I haven't used it yet...we actually barbequed over the weekend.

Thanks for the help, again.

Thoughts on Slow Cooking and Crock Pots

Hello All,

Fall is here and its time to think about cold weather meals. I like to cook healthy food and love soups and one pot, healthy meals. I've been thinking about starting to use a Crock pot and wonder what your experience has been with one. Does the food come out better than just slow cooking in the oven? Any great recipes to share? Thanks for your comments.

Crock Pot and Slow Cooking Update and Thanks

Hi,
Thanks to each of you who responded to my question about crock pots. On the basis of your enthusiastic responses, I went out and bought a programmable version. Unfortunately, after doing so, I then read the reviews on Amazon about the model I bought. It had the lowest rating-one star and many negative comments. So back I went to return that model. If only I had done it the right way, I would have saved some time. I am convinced that I will get one now it will be a better model. We are enjoying unseasonably warm weather in MA this great week after the elections so we are extending the barebeque season before we plunge into cold weather foods. Thanks again, bon appetite!
