Attorney General Holder Unable To Defend NYC Trial

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, who made the decision to try the suspects in civil court, echoed this sentiment in testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday. Holder endured intensive grilling from Republican members in morning and afternoon sessions. He refuted fears that federal court will provide Mohammed a "platform to spew his hateful ideology," and he claimed the case is not unprecedented because the federal courts have been prosecuting terrorists safely and securely for years.

However, Holder balked when Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) asked, "Can you give me a case in United States history where an enemy combatant caught on a battlefield was tried in civilian court?" After a long pause, Holder stumbled over himself saying, "I don't know. I'd have to look at that. I think that, you know, the determination I've made —" At that point, Senator Graham interrupted him to say, "We're making history, here, Mr. Attorney General. I'll answer it for you. The answer is 'no.'"

The committee chamber erupted in applause when Senator Jon Kyl (R – Ariz.) asked incredulously, "How could you be more likely to get a conviction in federal court when Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has already asked to plead guilty before a military commission and be executed?" Holder dodged the question by saying he would not base a determination of prosecution venue on the word of a terrorist. Senator Kyl pressed him further, and Holder said he based his decision on military and civilian court protocols. When Holder was asked about the possibility of acquittal, the attorney general assured the senators of conviction, despite constitutional safeguards against foregone conclusions in civilian trials. Holder said acquittal would not "mean that person would be released into our country."

Cashpoor NY Pushes State Workers to Take Severance

State agencies have been told to slice $500 million of spending and they should "aggressively offer severances" to accomplish these reductions.

How can we make NY money problems even worse. I know, I know, lets force NYC to have a federal trial for terrorists (who ought to be tried in a military court system) and then put the cost of the trial on NY taxpayers. Yeah, have the taxpayers cover the cost of the trial etc. (security etc.) which is estimated to be between $75M to $100M. Hey maybe they can get more state agency workers to quit their jobs so that this media circus of a trial can happen.

Rough estimate from the city of New York, cost of moving the trials of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the other terrorist suspects to New York will be somewhere in the ballpark of $75 million, that's a minimum," said Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) Sen. Schumer said extra security procedures could push that number up to $100 million, and asked that the federal government foot the bill.
======================================== ===================
Oh wait a new decision was made late yesterday. Attorney general Holder has agreed to get federal money for the cost to NYC - isn't that good news for all of us taxpayers who disagree with this action. We get to pay for this travesty.

Obama Admits Gitmo Will Not Close In Jan.

Another missed commitment by the Obama administration. I for one am happy this slipped - maybe it will give time for the 2010 elections and a chance to reverse this decision.

Second Stimulus? Dems Promise Jobs Bill

More than $98 billion in taxpayer dollars spent by government agencies was wasted, much of it on questionable claims for tax credits and Medicare benefits, representing an increase of $26 billion from the previous year.

In all, about 5 percent of spending in federal programs in fiscal year 2009 was improper, according to new details of a government financial report that were released Tuesday. Saying the overall error rate was similar in 2008, officials attributed the $26 billion jump to some changes in how to define improper spending as well as an increase in overall spending due to the recession.

And now they want to add another Stimulus - please make it stop! I can not wait until 2010.

Gee It Feels Good To Be A Senior in Obamaland

First no cost of living increase for Medicare (first time in over 30 years) and now a healthcare proposal that further slashes Medicare programs in order to fund the new - Medicare E. E = everyone else including illegals.

For example - if you need a pacemaker, the snake oil salesmen are going to look at your age and the cost in what they call survivability rates. If the bureaucrats think your health care needs are just way too expensive, they will hand out pain pills instead of approving that new pacemaker. That is what they already do in other countries where the government runs the health care system. In England it is called, and get this, the Quality Adjusted Life Years, and they have the power to make these life-and-death decisions for us seniors.

But wait there's more read the link.

Net Neutrality - Why You Shoud Be Concerned

Did you think that the current administration takeovers of the financial and auto sectors of our economy and the proposed government takeovers of our health care system was where it was going to end, think again - guess what's next? What's next is a government takeover of the Internet via President Obama's "net neutrality" regulation policy. " What ever happened to "if it ain't broke don't fix it"?

Net Neutrality - argues for broadband network providers to be completely detached from what information is sent over their networks. In essence, no bit of information should be prioritized over another. This principle, an information network such as the internet is most efficient and useful to the public when it is less focused on a particular audience and instead attentive to multiple users.

The FCC foot in the door - what this issue of net neutrality comes down to is this: Congress is not authorized by the Constitution to regulate the Internet - and if we allow the government to regulate the Internet (under the guise) of enforcing net neutrality , sooner or later this regulatory power would be extended to regulate the content of Internet communications and beyond. Want a current example of where our government is attempting to regulate communication content - the Whitehouse versus Fox.
