DVD Video lockup

I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition on a seven year old Sytemax system. I have a 40 GB hard drive, and 354MB of RAM. The hard drive has only 6 GB of space left on it that is available. I have two external DVD players, one is read only and the other will write DVDs. I am having a problem with playing DVD movie disks that is nearly constant now, but an occasional movie disk plays OK. I have the problem no matter if I'm using Windows Media Player or the Interactual DVD player program. The movie plays just fine until about half way through it. Then the system locks up and nothing will unlock it except turning the power off. I have tried using first one of the DVD players, and then the other one. The same problem appears no matter which player I'm using. Could this be related to insufficient RAM? And if so, why would the video be OK until about half way through the movie?

Ready for Windows 7?

Found an article on Windows 7 system requirements. Looks like they will be heftier than Vista's at the moment. Oh and I didn't do the widget download so you're on your own with that decision.

If you can tweak an OS and just have to have Windows, you might try this as a substitute, Windows Server 2008.

What kind of RAM do I need?

My previous question concerned download speed and RAM. I was advised to get more RAM, so I opened up the laptop to see what type of RAM I had, as I already knew it was 1 GB. I'm running two 512 MB DDR2-533Mhz. Question: My processor speed is 1995 Mhz and I see faster RAM modules going all the way up to 800Mhz. If I go for two 2GB-800 Mhz modules will they work in my computer or must I stick with the 533Mhz 2GB types? I have replaced RAM on my desktop computers before, but confess that I got lucky and didn't screw it up. Also, what the heck is a SODIMM? Is it compatible, better or what? Thanks to all for the help on the previous post.......

Totally Useless Post: Internet "Easter Eggs"

If you are a PC Gamer finding Easter Eggs is the Holy Grail. Sounds whacky huh?

If for some reason you don't know, Easter eggs are hidden little gems inside technology that give you little surprise games or messages. For instance there is a famous Easter egg in Excel 97 that allows you to play Microsoft flight simulator. Well now the Internet has its own Easter eggs for you to discover.

Go to the Yahoo site and click on the exclamation point and hear the YAAAAHOOOAAOOO yoddle. I warned you this was useless, but it is fun.

In response to Tommy and Kirk concerning the composition of the moon, there is: "Is The Moon Made Of Cheese?!? ACCORDING TO GOOGLE.COM"--see video on Metacafe: www.metacafe.com/watch/531415/ is_the_moon_made_of_cheese_according_to_ google_com/.

For Kirk, the best of all is Google for h4x0rs (hackers), which you can get to by going to 600673.com (Google spelled out in leet speak). The site is the normal Google search page, but in leet.

Leet or Eleet, also known as Leetspeak or Leetors, is an alphabet used primarily on the Internet, uses various combinations of ASCII characters to replace Latinate letters. The term is derived from the word "elite", and the usage it describes is a specialized form of symbolic writing. Different dialects of leet are found on different online forums.

Initially, the word leet was used as an adjective, to primarily describe the behavior or accomplishments of others in the community. In that usage, Leet generally carries the same meaning when referring to either the game prowess or, in original usage, hacking expertise of another person.

Have Fun,
Silly Sid
