Young Men
I was reading an article about how very young a lot of soldiers were that served on both sides during the war. There was one boy that joined a Mississippi Brigade at 11 yrs old & was wounded at Shiloh. T.D. Claiborne, who left Virginia Military Institute at thirteen, in 1861 became a captain of the 18th Virginia that year, and was killed in 1864, at seventeen. My own grandfather joined the NC Cavalry when he was 15 in 1862.He was captured near Peterburg, sent to Point Lookout & was exchanged after several months. It was a special exchange because by then the North had decided it was better for prisoners to die from starvation & disease than to be exchanged. My grandfather went back to his battalion & was at Appomattox when the Army of Northern Virginia surrendered.
Strikingly resemblance...
Just read this article in yahoo....
Is Nicolas Cage disowning his career-defining role? Does Maria Conchita Alonso know this?
No, "Vampire's Kiss" is still sacred. The actor appeared on "Late Night With David Letterman" Feb. 9 to put a wooden spike to the rumors that the actor's a blood-sucking time traveler from the Civil War era. Considering that fact never made Ken Burns's documentary, Cage shouldn't have needed to prove up that he didn't walk among the undead.
Of course, Cage's credibility was a little suspect since "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" actor was actually on Letterman to promote "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" -- and how could that action flick have gotten a sequel without drawing a little blood?
Still those Internet rumors have been hard to kill, ever since a September 2011 eBay auction of an 1870 photo showing a mustached Tennessee gent who bears an unnerving resemblance to Cage (the short-hair Cage, which gives us the slimmest excuse to mention The Evolution of Nicolas Cage's Hair).

Robert E. Lee's Birthday
January 19 is Robert E. Lee's Birthday!
It is also my birthday!
Please check out my first book 'Civil War Northern Virginia 1861'
It covers that first year of the War in Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William. Of course Colonel/General Robert E. Lee was a big part of that!

Wishing all of you a Happy New Year
Legend tells us also that black-eyed peas became a lucky dish during the Civil War. Union soldiers near the town of Vicksburg, Va. burned all crops except the peas; thinking they were animal feed, the soldiers did not bother them. Residents discovered that the legume was the only thing left to eat; they adapted it into their diet, and black-eyed peas were therefore considered the food of good fortune
My New Book from History Press!
On November 23 2011, my first book 'Civil War Northern Virginia 1861' was published by The History Press! Please check out the Reviews at view link
Heroes of America
Have you heard of them...Reading in a Doc office last week I ran across a story about the Heroes of America..It seems that in N. C. a lots of the populations was opposed to the Confederacy ...Mostly from the hill country these people were openly members of an organization called the Heroes of America..It was open except for the leaders who remained secret....Many of their groups were formed as extentions of Mason Lodges...Or so it was written...They actively ran for office and in other orderly manners opposed the State Government....They were know for desertion from the forces of the CSA and for joining up with the yankees....I had to read in a hurry and know nothing of a formal formed group called the Heroes of America..Do you..
Robert E. Lee's Decendents
Have they ever been paid for Lee's Home...If not should not the son's of the Confederacy and others be on the band wagon to cause a fair conclusions of this..........
Mister Tocqueville was right
"The Union was formed by the voluntary agreement of the States, and in uniting together, they have not forfeited their Nationality, nor have they been reduced to the condition of one and the same people. If one of the States chose to withdraw its name from the contract, it would be difficult to disprove its right of doing so..."
-– Alex de Tocqueville, Democracy In America
He should have tried telling that to the tyrant Lincoln. The country Washington led to freedom from England has not existed as the same since Lincoln arrived at the White House.

I Concur With This Quote
"The American people, North and South, went into the (Civil] War) as citizens of their respective states, they came out as subjects … What they lost they have never gotten back." -– H.L. Mencken
And in my opinion it seems we are losing more rights daily.Hosnestly from the time of my youth compared to the present it seems I've been transported to a strange tyranical land.A land where one must think over every word he/she utters before speaking it,for fear of being branded a racist or worst.
