The verse for this week:

Psalm 100 (New Living Translation)

A psalm of thanksgiving.
1 Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!
2 Worship the Lord with gladness.
Come before him, singing with joy.
3 Acknowledge that the Lord is God!
He made us, and we are his.
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving;
go into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the Lord is good.
His unfailing love continues forever,
and his faithfulness continues to each generation.

Great Sermon

Practical hope for these hard times. I have been catching up on sermons I have not heard at church here on-line. The one I listened to this morning was from a guest preacher Berin Gilifillan. He and His wife Rev. Lisa. are the founders of International School of Ministry (ISOM) and Women of the World (WOW) view link

He and she are guest preachers at our church often. Lisa just spoke to our Women's bible study two weeks ago. Anyway if you are interested in a good and practical sermon please listen to it at: view link

How are you all doing?

Are you getting excited about our time of Thankfulness and then the celebration of our Lords birth? I am I love Thanksgiving. It is a wonderful time to reflect, for me, on the year behind and how much God has blessed my family. And then there is Christmas, a holiday that has always been hard for me. I really didn't like it and could have done without it. This year God has changed my heart and I am looking forward to it more than I think I ever have.

What about you all? How are you looking forward to the holidays?

Help, please

I've wanted to ask this group to pray for a few days now, but I didn't know how to go about telling you the problem.

There is disunity in my church body. I can picture it -- it's like a gash along the right arm or maybe even a compound fracture. We can let God heal us and be well. Or gangrene may set in and we'll have to cut off that part of the body. Or, we may refuse to do anything and let the gangrene get so bad that the whole church is infected to the point of dying.

Please pray for wisdom for the leaders of our church and God's grace to abound to all members. Pray for God's healing mercy because without His help we are doomed.

I know this is a spiritual battle.

Daily Verse:

1 Corinthians 13:12 (New King James Version)
For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

The Freedom of Surrender

The Freedom Of Surrender
For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it (Lk. 9:24).

Mike is a dynamic Christian and worship leader. During a recreational basketball game, he bristled at a referee's fifth lousy call. Mike wanted to tell the referee just what he thought about his officiating. Inwardly, he was tempted to pray, "God, let me stop being a Christian for just 30 seconds; I'll repent and come right back, I promise. I just have to let this guy have it."

At that moment, Mike felt like the call to surrender to God was no less irritating than a horse being reined in by a hard tug on a steel bit. He found that it's one thing to surrender to God when you're leading worship and everyone is smiling. It's quite another thing to surrender to God when you feel you've been wronged.
. . .

This is a great article by Gary Thomas, published in Discipleship Journal in Sep/Oct 1996. It's quite long so I didn't copy and paste it here. I found it to be a challenge and plan to read it again, several times.

Prayer request

Hi, just wanted to request prayer for my nephew, Greg Smith, USMC. He deployed to Iraq the 1st week of September, and now he has to go to Afghanistan. Please pray for him and all our troops in harms way. Also pray for Greg's wife Melissa and his son Aizik. Aizik will celebrate his 1st birthday in early December.

Thanks!

Mercy Seat

Well with quiteone missing in action I have really missed her and the daily post of scripture.

In her absents I just felt I wanted to continue at least a weekly post. With watching babies all week I am not sure that I can keep up a daily thing but weekly I just might make it. So below are some scriptures and a bit of commentary I found looking up the word Mercy. It is amazing to study and I got most of my information from the Biblegateway site: BibleGateway.com

If you have not been to BibleGateway please check it out and you just may want to bookmark it because it is an invaluable source of bible information as well as other translations that are very helpful in understanding verses.
Anyway some verses, Matthew Henry commentary and my thoughts on the Mercy seat are in the first reply.

Faith Is

FAITH IS:

..The handle by which I take God's promises and
apply them to my particular problems.
..The conviction of realities I cannot see...or feel
..Thanking God when I am left with shattered plans,
knowing He has better plans.
..Standing on the fact that God has designed me
flawlessly for his purpose in the universe when
I feel everything about me is one big mistake.
..Standing when you can do nothing..trusting that
God will provide away in all things.
..Rembering that in the kingdom of God everything
is based on promise not on feelings
..Thanking God for his gift of emotional health, not
assuming it all stms from my ability to cope with
life.
..Resting in the fact that God has an objective in
leaving me on the scene when I feel useless to
him and a burden to others.
..Remembering I am indispensable to God when I
feel I only clutter up the landscape.
..Doing the right thing regardless of the
consequences, knowing God will turn the ultimate
effect to good.
..Realizing what God is going to do through me will
be on the basis of miracles not man power his
promise not my goodness
..Reliance on the certainty that God has a pattern
for my life when everything seems meaningless.
..Confidence in God's faithfulness to me in an
uncertain world, on an uncharted course through
an unknown future.
..Confidence in God when money is running out not
rolling in.
..Rembering, I am God's priceless treasure when I
feel utterly worthless.
..Something God will prove genuine by testing.
..Recognizing that God is the Lord of time when my
idea of timing doesn't agree with his.
..Appreciating that my capacity to
feel, communicate, think, choose, achieve,
create, commune with God comes from his
making me like himself.
..Developed through hardship, disappointment,
disillusionment, conflict, frustration, failure, loss -
not through stained glass nor sweet religious
props.
..Not a leap in the dark, nor a mystical experience,
nor an indefinable encounter with someone - but
trust in one who has explained himself in a
person - Christ in an historical record...
The BIBLE.
