VETERANS DAY 2009
2009-11-11 1215 hours…Welcome home dear hearts, welcome home!
Oh my gosh! I’ve been up since 0730 hours or so… been busier than a fritter in a hot skillet but I’ve had my coffee!
Today, I’d like to talk about ‘heroism’ and ‘sacrifice’ and what it means to all of us. We are, first and foremost, Americans… A republic nation… a nation of, by and for the PEOPLE!
How do we stay FREE? How do we keep going forward every day? We sacrifice our young men and women!
Our Future goes out into the world to fight wars and battles to keep US safe. The Future of our nation depends upon the sacrifices made by our families who supply the world with the hero. The guy or gal who goes forth to a strange land to do battle there…to keep the battles from our shores.
Yes, they are the heroes! They have and are giving everything so that you and I have the freedoms we have grown up with.
Do we ever stop and ponder as a nation as to what we would NOT have if our heroes were removed from the story of our country?
All or most of our freedoms would have been removed… Would I be sitting here typing this message if the sacrifices had not been made? Would my children and their off spring have a home? Be healthy, happy? Would I be sitting on my mountain with all the critters? Would I even be alive? Would my children or grand children?
No, I don’t think so.
Because of the sacrifices still being made by our heroes, I am blessed… happy… and most of all content with my life.
To all of mine, where ever you are and whenever you were, I thank you with everything I have in me. I am so proud of you all… Hold your heads high. Never, ever forget why you went and how valued you are.
Take care and go in safety always. Remember, just always, remember our heroes!

SCAM ALERT INVOLVING SUBSIDIARY OF DISH SATELLITE NETWORK.
I received a flyer from DISH SATELLITE.. Authorized dealer/ALTITUDE MARKETING HEADS UP…
…may also be listed as WWW.4DIGITAL TV.COM… Looking over the flyer, I saw that I could upgrade my TV service with only a $10.00 +/- increase for the next year… I called the number…
Very pleasant, helpful people… but it took the longest time almost two hours… and I was given another account number to use for billing purposes. This seemed strange to me but ok….
Verify my social security number.. I called them remember… however, I objected but gave it anyway.
So… an appointment is made to install all the new equipment for Monday … Monday is Columbus day. I told ‘Charlie’ I would need to transfer funds on Tuesday..… OK… no problem… we can do it (the install) on Tuesday… ok… fine by me… did I have another credit card I might want to use… nope…
Then Charlie… says he will transfer me to a recording that should answer all my questions. I listened to a lot of gobbledegook… but I did catch that my credit card would be charged for the monthly fee. And I would be charged $49.99 for the installation visit..
No no… my original account with the parent company was taken out of my bank account.
I called original toll free number. Female answers.. questioned her about the billing… she gave me another number to call… Somehow… this time I reached the right person…

Was given the run around again! After numerous calls and messages… I finally reached the right people…
In between calls to the company… I cancelled my credit card which had already been charged a total of $26.00. On this one, I spoke to Phillipe.
Whole thing was an inter state deal… No problem… Truth is I cannot get the Classic gold deal because it is for new customers only. However,, Charlie and his female ‘supervisor’ went ahead with this… used a false name for me… changed my last name to Riser… my home address gained two numbers… my phone number was changed to 606-563-1555… do the last 4 digits sound familiar…
Maybe Charlie and his boss lady thot this was a joke… except that my credit card number remained quite correct… Oh yes, no mistakes on that at all.
Well, I talked to Charlie, a David, and two females who did not give their names… I was put on terminal hold…
A tip here.. when dealing with any company like this ask for the name and ID number of the person to whom you are speaking! Write it down with the time and date. This will save you a lot of time should anything go wrong.
Any way, I called Richmond 911 to make a report…
Trooper called and I gave a phone report… advised the trooper I would be calling the KY attorney general’s office on tuesday . And that I will be calling the local FBI office to report an inter-state scam. Federal offense here! OH yeah…
Then after all the phone calls on Tuesday, I must call Richmond and give updates to two of the troopers…
I called Dish back… and finally got to the cancellation department… Very nice young man…James (yes, I have his ID number) and before him I spoke to Edward who did a lot of work… corrected the false info I was given. Anyway, I think the second account is removed… I was told I probably wouldn’t be repaid for the $26.00 I was charged before I could cancel my visa account. No problem! I don’t even know what the charges were for. Not a problem… the more time I spend on this mess, the more people I will advise…
NOW, ASK ME IF I FEEL STUPID! OH YEAH! This will also be posted on my profile blog section. Type in emom101…
Here is the phone number on the flier… 1-888-965-DISH (3474)…REMEMBER TO ASK FOR THE ID NUMBER….
Feel free to make a copy of this and pass it on… and also contact your local Better Business Bureau if you get one of these fliers in the mail.

WE WILL NOT FORGET OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS ON THIS DAY OF MOURNING. THEY GAVE AND ARE STILL GIVING THEIR ALL FOR US.

There was no “I don’t want to go” “I’m too tired” “too sick” “too old” …! The people needed… called.
They went! In uniform or out, they went! They rescued those they could and continued to try even though all hope was finally lost.
They gave their lives during the attack on our country.
I speak all of the time about our military and their sacrifices. I don’t say much about the guys and gals I worked with in the criminal justice system… Most/many people do not care for cops.
I did and still DO. Oh, I know that some are bad apples… wish there weren’t but the honesty in me says cops are human too.
Bad apples or not, they gave their lives that day in September. Fire personnel did the same. There are not many civilians who were willing to go into battle in the city that day but many did.
The dispatchers did fantastic job of keeping track of theirs. Dispatchers did not/could not see the extent of the damage… the injuries… They did not know if their family members and friends who worked in the area had survived. They stayed and did their jobs.
I am so proud to be a member of that dedicated group. I mourn their loss.

altA Lexington woman is frustrated and angry because she says her Neighborhood Association is trying to force her to take down a symbol of her American pride.
Betty Thompson lives in the Chilesburg development off Joett Creek Drive in Lexington and she wants to keep her free-standing flag pole.
She put the flag up around the Fourth of July. She says she did it because she's had four brothers fight in wars and she loves our country.
Recently she received a notice from the Chilesburg Maintenance Association letting her know that free-standing flag poles are not allowed, and if she doesn't take it down, she will be fined an initial $50 and then another fine of $75 and additional attorney fees..
She says she didn't realize the pole was against the rules and she thinks it's ridiculous they are trying to make her take it down..
"It just makes me plain old mad.. And I don't intend to honor their request."
"I'm proud to be an american.. And I think it really adds to the community."
Thompson says she has been seeking legal advice..
We were unable to reach the Chilesburg Maintenance Association for comment.
