Let's do this good thing together!

Size two? Who needs it! I would be happy just getting my booty back into those jeans that have been hanging in the back of my closet since the Carter administration. And I realize that being smart is the only way I will ever do it.

Fad diets and quick fixes just break things in the long run. Intake and output are what got us here, and they'll be what get us back where we belong.

So, no grapefruit fasts. No colon cleanses. No cabbage soup (everybody together, now: WHEW). Just mindfulness and moderation, tremendous honesty, and the support of good friends who share the same challenges and the same high hopes that we do.

PLEASE consult with your physician first, before embarking on ANY new diet or exercise program. Your doctor should always be the final authority, no matter how good the advice you receive online sounds.

We welcome your recipes, success stories, suggestions, and discoveries. In the interest of respecting the copyrights of others, we do request that you link to material you didn't write yourselves, rather than cut and paste. And, needless to say, if you're a spammer or a snake-oil salesman, turn around now, because you won't last a second longer than it takes for me to discover you in my group.

Biggest Loser - 8th/9th Place

Our team Booya is tied 8th and 9th place in the 5th week of our Biggest Loser competition with a 4.1% weight loss. One of our team members has been absent for 3 weeks so her weight was just carried forward. Perhaps when she returns we'll move up to 1st place. Yeah!

CTL Update

Five months into the new year 2011 and the weight loss is not doing so good. Instead of losing, the pounds are packing on. So I've decided to join a "biggest loser" type program at our cultural center that runs for 12 weeks. We divide up in teams of 4 and - you guessed it - the team with the most percentage of weight loss wins. Perhaps this will be the motivation I need to finally get moving on my goal.
The big weigh-in is next Monday.

So how are you doing on your goals for 2011?

So, guess what?

My butt swelled up. It's not fat, I swear. They're putting steroids in the water, I think. No, wait. I have a well. It's my glasses, then. Someone replaced the lenses while I was sleeping with that glass they use for funhouse mirrors, that makes your butt look like... well.... mine. I must have a target painted on my forehead. Or my butt. God knows there's room for it.

Back to the drawing board.

Mmmmmm, baby!!!

Last night I made garlic and lime pork steaks with mango salsa. The marinade was bottled, and the salsa was simple... just diced up mangos, oranges, pineapple, peppers, onions, and cilantro. On the side, I had steamed asparagus with just a spritz of butter spray and some marjoram, and a terrific taboule salad just popping with lemon and mint. There was a little tossed salad left over from the night before too.

We enjoyed every morsel. And I was well and truly sassified.

I did it!

Okay, it's time for me to do some bragging so if you are tired of me patting myself on the back, delete this message! Today was weigh in day and since 9/16, I have lost 36.6 lbs. Tomorrow, I begin the part of this journey that scares me...maintaining the weight that I have lost. I have been at this fork in the road many times in the past and I have always chosen the path that took me right back to where I started. This time I am committed to a lifestyle change. Thank you for all of your help and support. It has kept me focused in the right direction.
