Dressing to look like Saints

In my school we didn't acknowledge halloween, we celebrated All Saints' Day. We secretly picked a holy card and then dressed like the Saint we picked. I remember dressing like Saint Rita one year and I thought I was cool with lipstick on my forehead. It was made to look like blood from the thorn she carried. Any one else do this in their school?

Catholic stories in the movies

It seems that back in the 40s and 50s there were movies made with good Catholic themes. I just saw one of them. Go to hulu and find "Come to the Stable" with Loretta Young, you'll be pleasantly surprised, it's so good.

SPIRITUAL CARDS

Remember the Spiritual cards for having a Holy summer?

I still have one of mine. They gave us tips on being good, going to Confession, attending Mass, and receiveing Holy Communion and especially being good to our parents and nice to our brothers and sisters.

They told us to play safely and choose other good children as our friends.

I have to find mine and read it again, as I recall it sounds to me now like it was an examination of conscience for kids.

Anyone here ever receive one these?

Beanies/

I just remembered having to wear "beanies". Did any one else have to wear them?

I couldn't stand them. They were so flimsey and ugly. The only way they stayed on my head were by bobby pins. On a windy day, oh my gosh, it was bad.

Heaven forbid that we would lose it because they were hard to replace. What would we wear into church? Kleenex?

FIRST FRIDAY

My husband and I just got back home from Adoration of the BLESSED SACRAMENT and Holy Mass. We do this every First Friday of every month. Then we also go to confession and then attend Mass every First Saturday. How many of you still do this? Remember the promises of our LORD to Saint Margaret Mary for souls devoted to HIS Sacred Heart.
To the Heart of JESUS, most worthy of adoration be praise, thanksgiving, and consolation throughout the whole world, now and forever. Amen. Peace to you all.

All Saints Day

I realize I'm nearly four months behind but in my school we didn't do halloween, we celebrated All Saints Day by dressing as our favorite saints. There would be prizes given to one child in each grade, best representing their saint. It was fun. I once dressed as Saint Rita and another time as Saint Gertrude. They weren't my favorite saints but my grandma's favorite saint was Saint Rita and my grandma's name was Gertrude so as little as I was, I think now, my mom was honoring my grandma. Anyone else do this in their schools?
