Under New Management

I am happy to be the new manager for our Cat Lover's group here on EONS! Like all our members, I love cats, and have known the joy of sharing my home with a number of felines over the years. To me, all cats are beautiful, from strays and barncats to pedigreed showcats. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead this group.

Hyperthyroidism

My cat was dxed with this today. The Vet recommended Radioiodine Therapy in lieu of meds ,stating it was more effective and once treated no further Rx.needed.

Has anyone here had this procedure done? Have others had their cats on meds and how did that work?

There was also mentioned in an article I read that BPA is present in most canned cat food and it was recommended not to use these cans.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Take Your Positions Please

I have never had more than 1 cat at a time before now. October 2010 I got my first cat in about 22 yrs. In June a friend gave me her cat and in Sept. another friend could not keep her cat and so I have it now. The 3 get along pretty good. I just find some things sort of quirky. My cats seem to have predetermined places that they have decided between themselves that they want to sit as I do various things. When I am on the computer Pixie Luv U, my 1st cat, will either lay on the back of my desk chair or on the desk in front of the keyboard so I have to type over her (and pet her often). Oliver will just avoid me at that time, however when we are watching tv Oliver lays on the arm of the sofa or on my lap and Pixie lays on the footstool. Possom usually just hangs out by herself and only wants to cuddle when the other two are not around. She is the oldest and I think she is just still not real happy about not being with her original owner. True it is good they don't fight to share my lap, but do any of you know if it is normal cat behavior?

Poem For Cats

Poem For Cats

And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is....forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and ever.

Cleaning Kitty's Behind

One of our cats is older, overweight, and fairly long haired -- and has a terrible problem with odor on her rear end. We have shaved hair in that area, we have cleaned her with adult wipes, we have washed her with soap and water. Nothing works. Her litter box is cleaned on a regular basis and new litter added as well.

We think she is too old/fat to be able to clean herself any more -- but why aren't our methods working? Anyone have a solution to this smelly problem?
