What a month!
It's been a rough year so far -- with the economy continuing to fall, more foreclosures on the horizon and layoffs still coming fast and furious. My apologies -- I've not been as active over the past few months...my 9 year old broke her leg quite badly and I've been very busy helping her rehabilitate. She's doing great, I'm back, and looking to hear from you on what has been going on with your lives, job searches, financial fiascos and recoveries!!
This month I turned 50 -- after many years of blogging about 50 plussers, I'm am now one of US! But what a month. Michael Jackson, Farah Fawcett, Ed McMahon, Karl Maldon -- icons from MY adolescence.

The Right Unemployment Numbers
I was talking to a family member recently about the unemployment numbers. I was saying that unemployment is said to be at 10% but in Michigan it is more like 23 and blacks and hispanics have much higher numbers too. This indicated to me that the numbers are way off. They do not even try to count those of us who have given up and are living off of relatives or welfare. 1 in 8 people are getting food stamps now.
My family member and I looked at our own small family and discovered that we stand at 50% unemployed. Our core family is 4 people, 2 of which are unemployed for more than a year. One of the two left just got a notice of site closing and impending lay off in 60 days. This will bring my family's unemployment number to 75%.
What is your immediate family's unemployment number?
I bet it is over 10%.
