Older worker?

Oh my! I just cranky-ed "older workers" to see what's new online and this is what came up in the sponsored links section.

Firing Older Workers?
How to properly terminate older workers not performing.
EmployeeTerminationGuidebook.com

Well...if that doesn't get me all "fired" up...

Death clock??

I enjoy a blog called Boomer Chronicles, and a couple of weeks ago followed the writer's link to the Boomer Death Clock.

I thought it was hysterical, but wasn't sure how others would feel. Well, today, a visitor to my Gen Plus blog, Jim L., passed along the link, I laughed...again...and so I can no longer resist. Gave me a chuckle...don't know about the rest of you...you'll be mortified, horrified, or overjoyed!

Stop-gap Measures for 55 and Overs - Add. Resource

Here a few other resources I've found:

http://www.quintcareers.com/ older_worker_tips.html

http://www.epa.gov/ohr/see/brochure/ check the list of grantee organizations

http://www.ncoa.org//content.cfm? sectionID=284
http://www.nowcc.org/applicants/ programs.html
http://www.napca.org/ go to “programs” & click on “SEE”
http://www.ncba-aged.org/about/Site% 20Map.html
http://www.seniorserviceamerica.org/ aboutpage_programs.html

http://careersat50.monster.com/

Or, just go to your favorite search engine and enter “older workers.” Use the advanced search options to reduce potential eyestrain! Also search you state unemployment/Career Center to see about local opportunities. Your local Workforce Investment Board or Agency could also be of some help.

Again, Good luck!

Time or Newsweek article

Morning, Don't know which publication but I think it is either Time or Newsweek which has a cover story about retiring. I don't usually buy either magazine any more but I think this is one issue I may pick up. Curious to hear what their take is on retirement and the economy.

Stop-gap Measure for 55 and Overs

If you are 55 or over, out of work and fall below 125% of the federal (DHHS) poverty level, contact your local One-Stop (state Department of Labor/Unemployment Office) and ask about the Senior Community Service Employment Program in your region. If you qualify and are enrolled in the program, you are assigned to a "host agency" where you will be trained or have your skills upgraded to compete in a regular employment setting.

The SCSEP is a Title V program where qualified applicants work a maximum of 20 hours per week for minimum wage. The SCSEP is NOT a job. It Is a way to re-enter the workforce and gain or upgrade skills.

Good luck.

How long have you been looking for a job?

On our business blog, http://genplus.blogspot.com, we've been running a poll to find out how long 50 plussers are actually looking for work before they find a job. I'd like to know how long you have been searching for a job without success, or how long you have had to search at 50 plus until you secured a position.
