Video: Swimsuits Modeled by Average Women
I thought this video was a 'REAL' find!
We are in swimsuit season, Ladies, and every one of us has been through the in-store-try-on marathon. We have some small idea, how the suits will look, on, at least, on models we've seen in catalogs, or ads. The below video (made in 2007, but, the suit styles are the same ones we have to choose from this year)features average women, not professional models. How interesting, seeing how the suit styles look on gals like us!

The 'Future' of Swimwear!
Thought you ladies might enjoy a glimpse of what we will all probably be wearing, as to swimsuits, in future, if we wish to minimize the effects of harmful UV rays.
UV Protective Clothing and Swimwear by Sun-Togs

Here's a look at women's bathing suits, circa 1902. What once was worn by women, for modesty's sake, may make a return, for health's sake!

Seriously...
Ladies, this Youtube video concerning mature women, and their thoughts and reactions to aging appearances touched me. It also hinted, just hinted, at possibly a much deeper meaning, than merely concern over aging looks.
I'd really like to know your opinions on the piece, your reactions, your feelings, in general, on, as I like to call the process, 'maturing', with an emphasis on how we regard our aging looks.

Our Fasion Styles
What's your Fashion style, Ladies? Give me the classic, tailored style. I love clean simple lines, the classic pieces, in soft, more muted color shades, a bow to a complexion no longer young. I choose silk over satin, for the same reason. I have never been a jewelry gal, opting ever for the less is best ideal. Usually a great pair of earrings makes the only jewelry statement I desire.
I love dresses and skirts, at, or just above, the knee length. Ooh! pencil skirts and fitted sheath dresses! The past couple of fashion seasons have given us so many lovely dresses from which to choose, it's been fun dress shopping for the first time in years. Shoes-I like my 2-3 inch heels,(Franco Sarto must design especially for me!) boots, ballet flats, and sweet little summer sandals. I refuse to wear flip-flops anywhere except the pool and the beach!
I absolutely love the Fall 2007 belted looks! I appreciate many of the menswear inspired pieces, and the soft romantic look of silk, paired with these. One of my favorite recent purchases is a tunic-length, slightly fitted at the waist, white poplin shirt. Amazing worn casually with jeans!
I was thinking about what or rather who, influenced me, as to fashion, in my formative years. As a girl who came of age in an era when tv and film definitely directly influenced fashion, I realize there were a few actresses whose style I incorporated into my own fledgling beginnings.
Kate Hepburn-As a young teen I became a fan of her old films, and was blown away by her screen fashion style. I'll watch Woman of the Year, The Philadelphia Story, and Adam's Rib, just to feast my eyes on Kate's fashion looks.
Audrey Hepburn-Stunning, clean, chic, sexy without being overtly provocative, classy and classic. The nicest compliment I ever received from a stranger, was a couple of years ago, when a young saleswoman in a clothing store approached me and stated,
'You are SO Audrey Hepburn!'
At that moment I realized what a lasting effect the Audrey style had actually had on me.
Barbara Bain, who appeared in the old Mission Impossible tv series-There she was, an attractive, alluring woman, whose on-screen style was impeccable. Nothing overtly sexy about her style, but my oh my! it whispered sexy in a way that could not be ignored. I'd call her style Sexy-Chic, or Intelligent Sexy. I loved it.

Female Hormone Depletion
Since the number one concern on this Forum deals with the skin, and aging, I thought I'd post on the one near-miracle product that for many women, actually slows the the effects of the aging process .
HRT-Hormone Replacement Therapy. (I can hear the collective gasp of horror, as this is read!) Our Female Hormones, Ladies, affect so much more than merely our reproductive systems. They affect our skin, hair, nails, bones, our mental faculties, our libido, well, basically, the whole package! As we age, and the female hormone producton decreases, or ceases altogether, the lack of these becomes very obvious, as to our appearance, energy levels, mental and emotional functioning, every part of us. In effect, with the hormones depleted, or gone, we begin visibly aging, often, it seems, right before our eyes. I hear it all the time, 'It's like I woke up one morning and I was OLD!'
We take advantage of every remedy available, from vitamins, to natural herbal supplements, and prescriptions to aid in stopping bone-loss, to an endless stream of products purported to stay, and/or reverse the hands of time, as to our physical signs of aging. We exercise, paying atention to those pectoral muscles and still see the breasts flatten out and sag. We maintain a good body weight, and still see our bodies seemingly becoming more compact, sagging into what appears to be a state of over-weight. This leads some women to starve themselves hoping to lean out, and look younger. Nothing can take the place of the female hormones and their benefit. As one woman, age 58 told me, 'My doctor prescribes vaginal hormone cream, so intercourse is not painful. Great! Now, if only she could prescribe a hormone cream for my libido! And a pep-pill so I'd have the energy to make use of the vaginal cream!''
Hormone Replacement Therapy comes as close as we have today, to effectively slowing signs of aging, for mature women. Unfortunately, not all women are able to take advantage of this therapy, due to underlying health conditions. As well, many women have been frightened off the therapy. And too, the attitude of doctors has become one of extreme caution. It is now the practice of prescribing to women who can take advantage of the therapy, for no longer than five years. Though some doctors will work with you, considering your individual medical history, this Five and Your Done rule, is now in effect, with more and more doctors.
Menopause for many women occurs with few or even no major effects, other than menstrual changes. This merely means they do not experience the other attention-grabbing signals that their female hormones are depleting. They do begin the experience of the start of really aging, seeing major changes in their appearance. For these women, women who breezed through menopause, this new them comes as quite a shock.
The day that medical science develops a totally safe-for-all HRT will be the day we see the ultimate Miracle anti-aging product.

Simple Eye-Lift
If you would like to give your eyes a 'lift', emphasize the upper part of the eyes. Use softer, lighter shades of shadows. Apply shadow, but avoid extending it downward on the sides. End the shadow at the outside corners of your eyes, and then sweep it up, blending gently.
Apply the shadow very lightly on any saggy, brow bone areas, and blend it upward to the brow. Want more depth? Try a bit darker shadow at the outer curves of the eyelids, and sweep it upward. Want more 'lift'? Apply a liner in gray, or brownish/black, or brown, at the base of the upper eye lid, as close to the lash line as possible. No liquid eyeliner, please! These are too harsh, too bold, for the mature woman's look. Soften the thin penciled line, with a sponge tip applicator. With your pencil, then line very thinly, along the inner corners of your eyes, where your lash line is thinnest. Try to resist the temptation to line the lower eye. And, don't use any mascara on those lower lashes. That way, you keep attention on the upper, enhanced area, of your eyes. And, for most mature women, it's the under eye area that most often visibly shows age, and the area to which we wish to draw the least attention.
