New member and a question

Hi all, I'm new here, and glad to find a beading/jewelry group! I'm wondering if anyone else does macrame jewelry? I've recently started, and I'm totally hooked!
I just moved from a normal-sized home to a tiny studio apt (getting divorced!) and with macrame, I don't need as much room for tools, supplies, etc. Hope to get to know you all!

Just Arrived

Greetings,

I have been making chainmaille jewelry for a while, and there is no group dedicated here on eons. Not a lot of beads, but use them for accent on some pieces, and looking for some place where I can get feed back, or suggestions.

This one is not an original design, but a variation of one from a design by Dylon Whyte.

Where do YOU bead?

Say, wouldn't it be fun to share what our beading areas look like? We all might get some new ideas about our workstations. I have finally started beading standing up on a gel mat. It seemed I was always hunching over when I beaded sitting down, and it was starting to become a challenge for my back. My husband built a small platform to make the work area just the right height, and that sits on a laminate countertop we picked up at Home Depot. I've posted a shot of my workstation and I'd love to get a look at how other people stay organized (or not). Is anyone game to share?

HELPFUL HINTS

Using large safety pins to hold, and separate different designs of:
* spacers
* tube & round crimp beads
* bead caps
* small rings-in gold or silver
Found this idea in the Beadstyle magazine under shortcuts.
So far, I am delighted with this idea as it keeps these small designs more accessible.
Any other helpful hints I am always looking for..THANKS

New to beading

I innocently went to a meetup a week ago to see what beading was all about.

Well, after seeing cool stuff, and meeting some great folks, I ended up at Michaels to get some basic supplies, and came out with enough beads and findings to complete a couple things. Then I went home and fished out all my jewelry lying about and begin examining how it is put together and noting arrangements, etc.

then, I want BACK to Michaels to get ONE thing ... a beadboard, and came out with some beads for another project -- you know, saw them and just had to have them. I've practiced stringing them in different arrangements ... it is so fun.

I think I'm hooked. Our group is getting together in a week to learn the basics and begin actually making necklaces and earrings. I'm so excited.

Glad I found this group ... it will be fun sharing the adventure and hearing about everyone's projects.

Ordering Wholesale

Good Morning, I just contacted an agent at Firemountain.com, a wholesale gem company that I order crystals, components and other jewelry items from. If I order 200 or more items from them the price is much cheaper. I know some of the members in this group order from them as well, so I asked if we could combine our orders so we could get the lowest price when ordering. Their answer was yes, all we have to do is call in and give the address on the account and add our items and we can get the discount once our item number reaches 200. So we would have to order at least 50 items if there were 4 of us ordering. Anyway, thought I would toss this idea out there to see if any of you are interested. Just reply in this post and I will contact you or you can send me a message. Take Care All, and have a great Easter!!

Glass braclets & Pendants

My wife took a glassmaking class as a hobby then started to try her hand at making jewelry out of it (braclets and pendants). She showed a few of her friends and folks at the office and now folks want to pay her to make pieces. They even want to buy the ones she started making for fun. I told her she needs to take some of those pieces to a shop and have them sell the pieces. Does anyone have experience with the business/administrative end of making arts and crafts to sell to the public? Any tips as we begin to go down this path? Its new ground for the both of us........

Bead Caps

Good Morning, I have a question about using bead caps. What do you use to secure them to your beads. I am using the bicone shaped beads and just wondered if there is a certain brand of jewelry glue that is you use to secure them to the bead. Or should I use a certain type of bead cap for the bicone beads?
