Welcome to Be Your Own Boss!

We are a group of individuals who are seeking work from home opportunities and explore utilizing skills, hobbies, and crafts you might already have to make money.

We want to hear from you! If you have a long post, please put the majority of your message in the reply.

If you are an MLM, scammer, or get rich quick operator, read this!!

It is against the mission and policy of this group to permit the private soliticitation of any other member to join your particular scheme, or buy your products or invest in your business. That is against the Eons TOU, and conflicts with the purpose of this group to work together sharing ideas for home based business. It is NOT our aim to sell to one another. Anyone who violates this policy will be banned from the group, no questions asked.

Make money with your craft online

Are you a budding musician or photographer? Do you have a knack for handicrafts? Then why not make some money off of your talents? You can, thanks to the Internet.

Selling digital downloads has always been difficult. Complex e-stores have been needed to manage sales and deliver the goods. If you sell crafts, eBay and Craigslist may seem like your only outlets.

Well, a bevy of websites are here to help. You can sell music, photos and crafts online. There's no messy e-store to manage. And getting started is simple.

From a Kim Kommando article at USAToday:http://www.usatoday.com/tech/ columnist/kimkomando/2008-08-14-craft- sales-online_N.htm

Thanks

Thanks for the Invite. I will check it out and see what you got going on. I've tried several home businesses and they have not worked out. I am working on a book. I really need to stay focused on that, but would love to find something to make some extra cash in the meantime.
So Let me know whats new. I was with Eons some time ago, and got burned out. It seemed pretty much the same over and over. But I'll give it a try.

Hello...

Thank you for the invitation to join. Don't know how much I'll be able to contribute. So far haven't seen any suggestions on my groups that I felt I could cope with but I think my biggest problem is I don't know what I want or what I can do...but it is only Tuesday!

Business model-food for thought

OK, you asked :)

We are in a very different economy than the one that any of us grew up in. The Industrial Revolution built the middle class in this country and manufacturing is, for the most part, gone now. I hate that and it it is not good, but it is reality. We are now in the technology age, like it or not. Therefore, we need to change our thinking and our approach to finance. It is my opinion that everyone should have a business that they operate out of their home in order to protect themselves economically. Easier said than done, but much easier to do today than it was even five years ago, primarily due to technology.

One result of that is explosive growth in a business model called network marketing (or MLM or relationship marketing or referral marketing...). Most people have preconceived notions about NWM, some good, most bad. Here is a link to some generic information regarding the business model of NWM. There is NO information in it about ANY specific company, product or opportunity. I hope it will inform you and I am certain it will make you think.

Thanks, but...

Thanks for the invitation, but you may not want me in your group, though for the life of me I don't understand why you are so opposed to MLM. The MLM business model is perfect for those of us nearing retirement. I call it a poor man's franchise because you get a turnkey business operation for a few hundred dollars as opposed to a traditional franchise that cost tens of thousands of dollars.

In addition to my primary business, I do an MLM on the side that I expect to retire me. As you know, networking is the buzzword these days, and for good reason. Robert Kiyosaki (author of "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" and "The Cashflow Quadrant") says that the wealthy build networks, everyone else works for a living. That is just one reason that I think Network Marketing is going to explode into the marketplace very soon, if it hasn't already. More and more companies are using this business model because it is so cost-efficient for them. Not a cent is paid out until a sale is made, and companies are starting to realize that. Your group apparently doesn't want any MLM. Let me know if you want me to proceed or not.

Before you make that final determination, I would draw your attention to the following video. Go to www.explorefreedom.com/dougleedy. It's a generic site that explains how the Network Marketing business model works and why it is so lucrative. Part of the presentation is done by Dr. Charles King, professor of Network Marketing at the University of Illinois-Chicago. He has a Doctorate in marketing from Harvard Business School. I think you will find it interesting at the least. Regardless of your decision, thanks for the invitation. See, networking IS the buzz.

Do You Have Tips for Marketing to Boomers?

Hi, I recently started a new senior living blog and part of my goal is to provide info to Baby Boomers for starting an online business for retirement income.

I'm writing a report that I plan to give away on my site with tips for marketing to Baby Boomers and I'd like to get some input.

As a Baby Boomer, what catches your attention on the internet? What catches your interest in products you buy? What do you look for? Are there certain marketing strategies that turn you off?

I read that in Television, nobody can figure out how to market to baby boomers because most of the ad execs are 30 or younger. There's a huge market out there but nobody is capitalizing on it. I think as a baby boomer myself, I could teach other baby boomers how to network to success among this group.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Joan
