Can we talk about health care?
Very interested in the health care plan that might be proposed to alleviate the gaps in our current system. Would like to see a plan that encourages wellness and personal responsibility. There are many aspects of this complex problem and hope there may be as many solutions...............Lonestar1.

Senator Obama
I don't know if you read the post on here or your aids do. We put out many questions and ideas on here so that you can know how we feel. The baby boomer's a very large group. We do vote and want politicians to not only listen to us but to know that hear us.
We can post on here everyday about our concerns. All we want to know is that you read our post and that it will be part of your agenda.
Here are the things we face as middle class and lower income seniors.
1. companies don't want to hire the 50+ GROUP
2. the cost of health care.
3. programs to help lower income and middle class.
4.taxes breaks
5.affordable housing besides nursing homes and senior living.
6.the problems in the black community
7.racism in america.
8.Jobs sent over seas.
9.lobbist who defeat the interest of the people.
10. A better life for all.
Now when I get a reply to some of these issues pleas don't let it be from and aid but from you. You want our vote. I understand that you are going across country to put your agenda out there. But there are many of us who will not get to see and hear you in person. So please let those who are not able to see you know that you read the post.
I am a Chicagoan. I have voted for you every time you ran for office. For Bobby Rush's seat, State office and for Senator. So please address the folks on eons about where you stand.

HOW HE DOES IT
Excerpt from a blog...
"How Obama Does It
It was widely reported that the Barack Obama for President campaign raised an astonishing $32.5 Million in the second quarter. I am not surprised and here's a little story as to one of the reasons why. A month or two ago, my friend Dave answered the phone of a colleague. Since the colleague was not around, Dave asked if he could take a message. What was that message? "Tell him Senator Obama called to say thank you."
Dave was stunned. Now I don't know how much this fellow contributed to Barack Obama's campaign but I have heard about people who received a call from the senator after having contributed as little as $100. Obama knows that this type of outreach pays back big time because the person who gets the call tells his or her friends, who tell their friends, etc. Soon, that $100 is multiplied exponentially. The result? $32.5 million in the space of three months.
We all know that Obama has charisma and writes soaring oratory that he then delivers beautifully. But he gets all the interpersonal stuff right, too. He seems to have a real instinct for it. It seems effortless. That's the way it's supposed to look. I would bet, however, that the Obama Show is as effortless as an Olympic downhill event. So how does he do it?
1. It's accepted as a best practice. A decision was made early on that this type of communication had the potential to put Obama's fundraising in hyper-drive.
2. There's a budget for it. Time and resources are expended.
3. It's recognized as a differentiator that gives Obama an edge over the other candidates.
4. There is a system in place to make it happen. It's not haphazard. Calling to say "Thank-you" and other high-touch outreach is part of the DNA of the Obama campaign.
5. It's delivered with warmth and sincerity by the candidate, himself. Ordinary citizens -- who form most of the electorate -- feel valued. When's the last time you felt valued by a politician?
Oh, and lest I forget, my friend Dave's colleague also contributed to Hillary Clinton's campaign. You guessed it: No call.
I don't know if Obama will eventually get the nomination or not. But what I do know is he has set the bar very high. This is powerful stuff.
Don't you wish Microsoft, Apple or other vendors who keep us on hold for the honor of buying their products would take a page from Barack Obama?"

The Media
I have been voting since I was 18. I would follow the candidates that I liked threw news articles, debates and when they spoken at various areas. Today we have blogs, internet, and TV to get information.
But there is a problem. Many times the information that is out here is wrong. We all have to be careful in what we hear and read.
There have been many who are trying to bring Mr Obama down. What their reasons are I don't know. Before any body post some news about Obama please make sure it is true and not something made up.
I get so tried of the false stories people are putting out.
For example a lot of folks did not watch the debate last night on PBS. A reporter here in Chicago said that Hillary took Obama's thunder. Not the case.
When the question was asked about aid s in the Black community her response was that if white women from 25-34 had aids there would be an out cry for more funding. The women in attendance stood up and cheered. But at all the other things she said they were very cool.
Hillary has made a lot of promise about want she plans to do if elected.
Well she has been in office long enough to push some of her promise into bills and get them passed. She has the years over Obama but she and the others are still part of the old guard. We need a change and I think Obama is the only one who can bring that about.
For those who say Hillary has a lock on the Black community they are all wrong. As a 54 yr old black woman she does not have my vote nor my son who is 22.
Why because I know the game the media is playing and also other politicians. So please read and listen to every thing carefully and make sure you double check the facts.

Peacemaker Obama?
Just exactly how would a President Obama deal with the Muslim radical terrorists. I'm assuming he'll get us out of Iraq somehow, but then what?
FROM OBAMA
"A lot of people are talking about money today.
It’s true -- together we raised a significant amount over the past few months. And your generosity is what will make it possible to mount a winning campaign. For that, I cannot thank you enough.
But the money isn’t the whole story.
The most extraordinary and deeply humbling result is the people -- more than 258,000 of you -- who have taken ownership of this campaign.
A number that big is a thunderclap over the political process. It means our campaign has more supporters than any campaign in history at this point in an election, and it’s a wake-up call to our current politics.
It means ordinary people are coming together in unprecedented numbers to take back their government.
It means you are defying the pundits and Washington insiders, rejecting their cynicism and negativity, and embracing the hope that we can change things for the better.
It means we are building a movement so big, so deep, and so personal that our collective voice is undeniable."

btw, did y'all know Obama exceeded his goal of $350,000 for this quarter's fundraising? Right now it is at $350,791, and there were 256,940 contributors! And the deadline still runs to midnight tonight. So if you would like to contribute, and it doesn't have to be much, there's still time.
