Another Book Promotion Idea
I'm off to NYC to visit my 86 year-old parents (they make me feel young), but before I go, I thought I would share something that might work for some of you with books out.
See if you can partner somehow with a local company in your town, especially if a theme, setting, product in your book provides a good tie-in.
For QUEEN OF THE ROAD, I just had a fantastic day at Celestial Seasonings, where I did an employee event (the company bought 300 books for their workers and their families) and then a public signing in the tea shop where we sold another 50. (This had been announced in the local paper a few days before. Also, since this is a holiday week, they were particularly busy.)
If you want to learn more about it, I just blogged on the day. view link
But, it did occur to me that other writers might be able to do something similar. (Although finding a company as fabulous as Celestial Seasonings will not be easy!)

Jumping In
Thanks for the place to show off a little. I'm just getting used to how this works. I posted a chapter in Files, an excerpt from my novel (as yet un agented) The Goddess of Undo. It's called Moulin Rouge. If you have some time, take a look. What a great place to read and share!

Question About Copywrite and the Web
Does anyone have the straight skinny on ownership rights after one has posted on the Web -- say, a site like this one?
At one time I saw someone who posted info on ownership rights, specific to this site. But for the life of me, I cannot find it again.
Thanks

Sample Chapter from a WIP
I've just uploaded a discarded chapter from my work in progress (WIP). Feel free to look it over and study the way I handled a chapter that was primarily dialogue. If nothing else, the punctuation should be right!
The working title of this manuscript is "Beyond Contempt."
The chapter can be found in the FILES section in the group.

Anyone know
I'm using Microsoft Word 02 to write my novel.
Does anyone know if you can switch languages in the middle of text?
My character is proficient in two languages, english and spanish. The character get so mad that in the middle of yelling in elglish, they switch over to spanish. I would like to write what the character says in spanish, in spanish.
Can this be done in Word?

Reference Books
We have our Useful Websites list, but I was thinking that perhaps people might have favorite reference books or helpful writing books that they find useful. Here's where you can post them. I will eventually turn this post into a file and upload the list to the "Files" section of the group.

Baby boomer memories
hi everyone
I'm a little unsure of the protocol here regarding links, self-promotion etc.
I run a website, which is a labour of love, called Boomoirs ... the life stories of a generation.
In essence Boomoirs is an eyewitness reference for the baby boomer generation; a depot for the reminisces and memoirs of those who grew up through the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. All submissions are very welcome!
Here's a piece I wrote about our first television. ... and another about my first day at school.
We've got lots of different categories and I'd love to hear from you.
Apologies if my post oversteps the boundaries of this group.
With respect
Erin Fogarty
