NO MEDALS!!
We had a terrible gasoline shortage in Charlotte, NC on the weekend of our state Senior Games meet and I did not get to compete -- Any body know of a reasonably close by meet which is open to all comers? Please sent me a PM if you do, Thanks!
Golf MARATHON
Just back from what can only be described as a golf marathon at Bandon Dunes Golf "Resort" in Bandon, Oregon.
Why "GOLF MARATHON?" We walked up and down and among sand dunes for over 50 miles in 3 1/2 days. I hit nearly 800 golf balls and swung the club over 1500 times including practice.
In addition, the elements made a difficult game that much more difficult. Winds blow non-stop along the coast of Oregon. The marine layer which looks like a fog bank early in the morning before the winds come up, moves like a bullet train in the afternoon when energy from the sun powers the clouds.

Olympic Favorite!!

My favorite moment was watching the swimming competition. Jason Lezak, swimming the anchor, turned in the fastest relay split of all time, 46.06, to give the American men's 4x100m relay team the gold medal over the French in the most exciting, harrowing, unbelievable relay race ever -- immediately and indisputably one of the greatest sports moment ever. The victory marked the second of the eight gold medals Phelps would win at the Beijing Olympics. And up on the deck, Phelps -- amid teammates Garrett Weber-Gale and Cullen Jones -- let loose with a scream of sheer exultation.
I could feel his excitement and was overjoyed to know that we had won another gold medal. Go Team USA!!!
8th Gold medal
So many great moments, but my favorite was seeing the swimming race where Michael Phelps got his 8th gold medal. I've watched a lot of swimming races over the years, but this one topped them all.

"The Paralympics got some balls rolling," said Jia Yong, sports director of the China Disabled Persons' Federation, "changes have been made, and more are on the way."
Jia still remembers that 20 years ago when he trained with his swimmers in Beijing, one man came to them and asked if they were from homeless shelters. "The public mindset is changing. People have become more accepting and caring as the society develops," he said.
"Sports transform the lives of individuals. It also spurs social changes," Jia said. "The Paralympic Games will benefit more disabled population in ways like promoting social awareness, integration, and the adoption of favorable policies," he said. Some 50 technicians who are trained to repair the artificial limbs for the Paralympians are also important "personnel legacies", he added.
