Just Telling the Truth
This I Believe:
“Of course I believe evolution.
But that is different from believing in evolution.
To believe in something takes faith, trust, effort, strength. I need none of these things to believe evolution. It just is. My health is better because of medical research based on evolution. My genetic code is practically the same as a chimpanzee's. My bipedal feet walk on an earth full of fossil missing links. And when my feet tire, those fossils fuel my car.”

It Has Nothing to do With Any Gods
There is no question that many people believe many things. That is one of the basic ideas of or freedom we are suppose to share in America. Our government has been allowed to pass a bill that ruins the greatness of our what our country once had. I want our government to stop. The 1st. Amendment to our Constitution clearly states:
‘Congress shall make no law respecting an Establishment of Religion’
And yet this bill, House Resolution 847, was passed on December 11, 2007 by the House of Representatives. The bill defies the law of our land and is a slap in the face to every American who has ever fought for the freedoms our Constitution guarantees.
The bill states:
H. Res. 847
In the House of Representatives, U. S.,
December 11, 2007.
Whereas Christmas, a holiday of great significance to Americans and many other cultures and nationalities, is celebrated annually by Christians throughout the United States and the world;
Whereas there are approximately 225,000,000 Christians in the United States, making Christianity the religion of over three-fourths of the American population;
Whereas there are approximately 2,000,000,000 Christians throughout the world, making Christianity the largest religion in the world and the religion of about one-third of the world population;
Whereas Christians and Christianity have contributed greatly to the development of western civilization;
Whereas the United States, being founded as a constitutional republic in the traditions of western civilization, finds much in its history that points observers back to its Judeo-Christian roots;
Whereas on December 25 of each calendar year, American Christians observe Christmas, the holiday celebrating the birth of their savior, Jesus Christ;
Whereas for Christians, Christmas is celebrated as a recognition of God's redemption, mercy, and Grace; and
Whereas many Christians and non-Christians throughout the United States and the rest of the world, celebrate Christmas as a time to serve others: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
(1) recognizes the Christian faith as one of the great religions of the world;
(2) expresses continued support for Christians in the United States and worldwide;
(3) acknowledges the international religious and historical importance of Christmas and the Christian faith;
(4) acknowledges and supports the role played by Christians and Christianity in the founding of the United States and in the formation of the western civilization;
(5) rejects bigotry and persecution directed against Christians, both in the United States and worldwide; and
(6) expresses its deepest respect to American Christians and Christians throughout the world.
All Americans, no matter your religion - faith – belief, you should be outraged by this bill. This is only the reduced version of this bill. To fully understand the intent of our elected officials you need to read the bill in its’ entirety. Please read the bill as it was introduced. If you still don't understand why it is so damn important to make phone calls, write letters/e mails, sign petitions and take an active part in keeping America free then there is no hope for a free America...there is no hope for you.

A Welcome
Hi everyone. I want to extend a welcome to all of our newest members allen42, ikahana, comeath, Pagan, , IronWillConquer and LifeLoveLaughter. As our group grows please know that your being here matters very much. We are each doing what we can to allow others that think as we do to become more active as religion loses a grip on our legal system that it strives to hold on to.
I am never going to apologize for my beliefs. I don't flaunt them but it is high time folks are less afraid to stand up and be counted as being opposed to organized religion and the hatred and bias it has inspired down through the ages of its' history here on earth. It wasn't that many decades ago that Americans hid in fear, for so many reasons, and I see our growth as good but far from completed.
I thank you for joining us. I ask that you do what you can to draw others here so that we can continue our forward momentum that will cause another positive change in America and the world.

You Make the Difference!
Your Representatives are easy to talk to. Please take a few minutes to contact them.

Click on your state. Click on a name. If you don’t want to download their contact information you don’t have to. (I always do because I contact all of my Representatives at Weekly at the very least.)
Look close and you will always find a: 'Contact us' to click on if you don't want to do the download. It will take you directly to their e mail.
I love e mailing them. If a hot issue is being voted on I contact them a lot more. I really do get responses from the representatives themselves…phone calls that are quite intimate. They listen, folks. We can hire and fire them. Each and every one of your Representatives has contact information. USE IT.! MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
If you need any help I will help you. A simple e mail weekly matters. Start it off with:
Dear (your Representative's name),
I know you never really read these but I am plum disgusted and just had to tell someone how I feel about...
or:
Dear (your Representative's name),
I know you don't really care but I just had to tell the person who throws this in the trash that I think...
Don't contact just 1...contact ALL of them.
Make a letter and send the same copy to each one.
You can keep it simple and that helps. Don't make a long winded speech.
Let the very first issue be about the separation of church and state. If we don't keep this separation America is doomed and any other issue is moot.
As I said, you can bet your house the people who want a one religion government are writing e mails every day. Besides making a huge difference by taking part in the democratic process you will have a blast!
Don't expect a phone call right off the bat. You will get discouraged...We all do! Just never quit because your voice, your e mails, matter more than you know!
As I said, I am here in you need ant help. I thank you, folks.

We need to realize that folks like this go to church once a week. As soon as they get home they each send a letter, make a phone call or send an e mail to their local, state and federal representatives to tell them "Way to go!". It is not good enough for us to believe their are folks like us that are trying to stop our government from embracing a religion. We must get everyone to write letters, make phone calls and send e mails to stop this take over by the idiots who only gain power if we let them. Our leader here, in this group, is right to be active. We must be as militantly involved in our endeavors to stop these idiots or we risk a dangerous nation where none of us will be allowed to live. Please, contact your politicians. They are all accessible and need to know we are the majority and we rule the government...the government does not rule us.

A Very Slippery Slope
There is a dangerous precedent posed to ruin the freedom of Americans.
Those who 'rest on their laurels' and never lift a finger to dial the numbers of their representatives to protest this, that never write e mails in protest this are to blame if this bill passes. We must do more than just talk! Get active...Stay active!

Hatred is Created
The real reason for religion.
Faith...An Abscence of Knowledge
Finding and keeping the faith that a god is responsible for all things requires a lot of work, I think. This work begins with, in many cases, accepting what your parents tell you is the truth. In some cases this faith comes because there seems no logical explanation to life or death and all the experiences one is subjected to as time passes. No matter how one comes to have a faith in a god the tremendous amount of work required to hold fast to that faith seems amazing to me. It requires one to abandon all logical thought and have faith only, and extremely, in the absolute existence of an unprovable entity.
The word faith is rightly applied to describe the relationship between humans and gods. Faith, the word itself, is based on the desire to believe in a transcendent reality.
Having complete faith requires, and depends, on having no actual knowledge.
It takes a lot of work, I would think, to deny the existence of knowledge.

Hell Explained
In an effort to give a little humor I thought I'd post this. I doubt it was a question on a mid term but it is funny. WARNING: It could be considered X rated.
True or not - it's quite humorous.
HELL EXPLAINED BY CHEMISTRY STUDENT
The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid term.
The answer by one student was so 'profound' that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well :
Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?
Most o f the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.
One student, however, wrote the following:
First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today.
Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.
This gives two possibilities:
1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.
2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.
;
So which is it?
If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, 'It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you,' and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct......leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting 'Oh my God.'
THIS STUDENT RECEIVED AN A+.
The DNA Files
Evolution is happening now. The warming of earth is causing evolution to speed up. The smaller species of life can adapt because they can time their survival in order to pass on their genes and keep their species alive. Will larger species, like polar bears or humans, be able to adapt and survive? Can coral reefs evolve, avoid bleaching, and survive climate change? Changes in genetic signatures occur because of climate change in the Wet Tropics of Australia and show that evolution is pushing life forms into extinction as you read this. Did our human ancestors evolve because of climate variability and did that cause unpredictable human like characteristic traits - walking upright, the invention of tools, the discovery of fire and the eating of meat - that allowed man to adapt to the climatic changes? Are Homo sapiens, by controlling the environment rather being controlled by it as we evolved, hastening the extinction of life?
