It is entirely too quiet in here so I rreckon some one needs to make some noiise or start an argument. errrr discussion.
I have just recently downloaded CQ100 and paid my subscription. It's a pretty neat little program and seems not to interfere with the operation of the computer.
It is a voice over internet program somewhat on the order of Echolink but much simpler. It is only available to licensed hams. You must confirm your license status before you can download it.
Yeah, I know it ain't real radio, but considering the shape the bands have been in it does provide a way of chatting with other folks. Might be one way of getting a net going for Eons, Amateur Radio Group. Think about y'all then get on here and blast away.

Hi there,

New member here. My call is N8UAN and I currently reside in Nashville, TN.

I ran across this interesting site a month or two ago. A web based software defined radio website being run from the University of Twente in the Netherlands.

Their setup runs on 20m, 40m, and 80m and is RX only. Multiple users can control the SDR receiver simultaneously and independently of other users. Meaning you can tune your own 'virtual receiver' without other users mucking around with your controls and filters.

I don't know what the upper limit is to the number of users that can play with their site simultaneously, but so far I've seen over 50 users connected at the same time.

The UT WebSDR site has a very neat spectrum analyzer with a very useful waterfall display. Also, the site has a nice display of all the other users on the site and a visual reference of what frequency/band that they are currently listening in on.

I would love to see some club or organization here in the U.S. startup and maintain a WebSDR page like the one UT has.

It's simply an amazing site to see in action:

In the groups photos section, I've uploaded pictures from this years Williamson County ARES field day.

This year they had a very special guest...

This years satellite station setup: Satellite Station Setup

Meet AL1EN from antARES: Special Field Day Operator AL1EN

A closer look at AL1EN's credentials. Hmm... I wonder if he's a legal alien? : Special Field Day Operator AL1EN

Queen Wilhelmina Ham-fest

Here I am atop Rich Mt. high above Mena, AR. weathering out the last of Gustov. I came up here Monday parked the camper and got set up, it was a wonderful afternoon, the temps in the middle 80s and overcast. Started raining Tuesday night around 1 am and it’s not expected to slow down until early Friday. The wind has been constant at about 20mph with gusts of about 40mph.
The wife stayed home as she had other engagements and this campsite was reserved last year. It’s a wonderful place for the gathering and is a tradition in the state for the last 40 + years. I have been a regular for the last 4 years and fondly remember my first ones back in the middle and late 70’s. The Ham-fest is always scheduled for the first weekend after Labor Day and Friday is the kick off day….talk about timing.

Has anyone operated any HF or VHF/UHF remote bases?

I know the concept has been around for a long time using mountain-top stations and links. I've been given the opportunity to play around with a well-equipped HF station approximately 1200 miles distant using Kenwood remote control software over the internet. It should be a lot of fun, especially if the band conditions improve.

My last serious effort on HF was from my car using an Icom 706 and a screwdriver antenna. The only problem (aside from having to dissemble the antenna to enter parking garages both at home and work) was the tremendous "hash" generated by the high voltage batteries in my hybrid car.

Finally, after having my General for seven years, I have learned how to use my radio and have used it! Never too late and all that, better late than never, whatever.

long story, continued in first reply . . .
