Apple Butter
It's getting Chili out
Fall /Winter
Now thats two season of many happy things to do.As for me I help the wife with her blinds, take them down in the close position and take them out side and hose them down with warm soapy water, rinse hang in the tree to dry and re-hang them,.
I'm waiting for the applesto start to fall and I will gather them up and make some good apple sauseand apple butter. Come Christmas time I do the same for cranberries.
I do most of my canning during the winter that way the heat isn't going to waste. Unless some one wants a small batch made, which isn't to often.
Any way Gravenstien, I feel makes the best all around apple sauce and butter.
What does our kitchen friends say to that?? michael

Brownies
I know I've been AWOL for a while, but when I came up with a problem, I thought of the crew that helped me on Memorial Day weekend ;^)
I want to bring brownies to the picnic tomorrow, but I have lost the recipe I want to use and thought one of you might have it. It calls for a boxed cake mix, an egg or two, some oil and water and a bag of chips. Mixes thick. Press into pan. Easy baking and gooey-yummy.
Does anyone have a clue what I'm talking about?
I'm going to use a french vanilla cake mix and butterscotch chips and throw in some toasted chopped hazelnuts.
All I need are the measures and baking temp/time.
Anyone?

Good Morning Kitchen Friends
Waterless Cookware?
Does anyone have a set of waterless cookware, any brand, but especially Saladmaster or did your mother, etc?
i've read extensevely about the benefits, etc, even read a few sites with blogs about Saladmaster, some good, some of course saying it's way overpriced and cheaper sets are just as good.
Here's my real question, I have a hard time seeing where steamed food would taste as good as the old fashioned way, I.E. searing at high temperature to brown, then baking, etc. The flavor comes from caramlization, which you can't get in waterless greaseless cooking in my opinion.
Any opinions welcome!

Labor Day Barbecue
I thought I might share my menu for the Labor Day BBQ we are having...anyone else want to share theirs??
We are starting with a Shrimp Gazpacho, then Beer Can Chicken made on the grill, Corn and Veggies grilled and then made into a sort of Succotash, Watermelon Basket with cantaloupe and grapes, Red Potato Packets and Grilled Garlic & Asiago Bread.
Oh and also Fresh Peach Sangria made with Turning Leaf Riesling, Budweiser (had to buy a 12 pack to get the two cans for the chickens)and a cheesecake for dessert with strawberry topping.
I can hardly wait...anyone want to come join us?? We have the volleyball net up, the scrabble board dusted off and some DVD's. It will be fun!
