FEMA REMINDS AMERICANS TO MAKE SURE THEIR FAMILY IS PREPARED AS THEY SPRING FORWARD THIS YEAR

WASHINGTON – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is encouraging Americans to take advantage of the March 14 time change for Daylight Savings as a reminder to ensure their families are prepared for a possible emergency. A few simple steps like checking smoke alarms, developing a family communications plan, and putting an emergency kit together can go a long way toward keeping families safe.

“No matter how much the federal government, the state, or local officials do to prepare, we can’t do it alone – individuals and families must do their part to be ready in case of an emergency,” said FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate. “The public is the most important member of the nation’s emergency management team, and so I encourage everyone, as they spring forward this year, to also take a few minutes to check their smoke alarms and talk through what your family would do during an emergency.”

Information on preparing for emergencies can be found at Ready.gov. Steps include developing a communications plan to ensure family members know how to get in touch with each other during an emergency, putting together an emergency kit, and staying informed of potential risks. It’s important to remember that an emergency could be a large scale catastrophic disaster, or a smaller-scale event like a car accident or house fire.

In addition to visiting Ready.gov, the United States Fire Administration is encouraging families to ensure their homes are equipped with working smoke alarms. A working smoke alarm significantly increases your chances of surviving a deadly home fire so it’s important to test alarms regularly and keep them properly maintained. This includes checking the manufacture/expiration date on the label, replacing the batteries, and cleaning dust away from the slots so that smoke can enter freely.

Any job openings anywhere?

The city I work for is talking about layoffs in all departments. Anyone know of a police dispatch job openings in Washington State, Idaho, Montana or North Dakota by chance?

I have seniority but that is not always a guarantee of protection. Just asking in case

Thanks

To all emergency dispatchers

I found a car sticker that sums up my feelsings about what we do (Besides it would have nothing to do with city politics)

"911 Trained to Save Your Ass, Not Kiss It"

Because of chief's policy, we can not have callers cited or warned about 911 abuse when they call in for a phone number, the correct time, their power is out and they can not get thru to the electric company to let them know (no one on life support equipment), etc.

Just a little humor for the evening, enjoy your shifts and keep up the good work!

Tribute to fallen police officers

I just want all to remember those four Lakewood pd officers in Washington state who died earlier today. I'm still reeling from the horror that these officers were so brutally murdered. Please, their families, friends and co-workers need all of our prayers.

A REQUEST TO POST...

2009-11-14

Would you post this one on your
Viet Nam groups on EONS?...I
think it would be appropriate to
post it there, don't you?
Subject: Re: The Soldier's Gift

Subject: The Soldier's Gift ... I am honored to post this in all my groups... A request from one of mine who does not wish to be named. Hugs and love my dear heart.

"It is the soldier, not the reporter,
Who has given us Freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,
Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.
It is the soldier Who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag.
Who allows the protester to burn the flag."

VETERANS DAY 2009

2009-11-11 1215 hours…Welcome home dear hearts, welcome home!

Oh my gosh! I’ve been up since 0730 hours or so… been busier than a fritter in a hot skillet but I’ve had my coffee!

Today, I’d like to talk about ‘heroism’ and ‘sacrifice’ and what it means to all of us. We are, first and foremost, Americans… A republic nation… a nation of, by and for the PEOPLE!

How do we stay FREE? How do we keep going forward every day? We sacrifice our young men and women!

Our Future goes out into the world to fight wars and battles to keep US safe. The Future of our nation depends upon the sacrifices made by our families who supply the world with the hero. The guy or gal who goes forth to a strange land to do battle there…to keep the battles from our shores.

Yes, they are the heroes! They have and are giving everything so that you and I have the freedoms we have grown up with.

Do we ever stop and ponder as a nation as to what we would NOT have if our heroes were removed from the story of our country?

All or most of our freedoms would have been removed… Would I be sitting here typing this message if the sacrifices had not been made? Would my children and their off spring have a home? Be healthy, happy? Would I be sitting on my mountain with all the critters? Would I even be alive? Would my children or grand children?

No, I don’t think so.

Because of the sacrifices still being made by our heroes, I am blessed… happy… and most of all content with my life.

To all of mine, where ever you are and whenever you were, I thank you with everything I have in me. I am so proud of you all… Hold your heads high. Never, ever forget why you went and how valued you are.

Take care and go in safety always. Remember, just always, remember our heroes!

Many hugs, much love and lafter to all of mine… God love you all, you deserve the honors… meems
