Welcome!
Hi,
If you're a newcomer, thanks for stopping by. If you're new to Eons as well, click on the 'Files (x)' icon (to the right). In the file 'New to Eons?', you'll find answers to some basic questions and learn about a few Eons features. The 'Bicycle group links' file has numerous internet bookmarks to a wide variety of biking information.
We think you'll find this to be one of the most informative bicycling groups on Eons and undoubtedly one of the friendliest.
There's an online calendar that's available for use by anyone in the group. Use it to post anything related to bicycling or put in the month and day of your birthday. For help, click on the calendar's 'Help' button or view the writeup in the 'Files' section. Click here to access the calendar.

Aya's bike quilt
I have very close friends, David and Heidi, who recently had their first little person, Aya. When they told me they were going to have a baby I started planning their quilt, and knew it had to have bikes. They are an awesome young couple who are unbelievable bikers. They took their Tandem and rode across part of Europe and Australia a few years ago posting their ride for us all to read....it was like being there. And, you should see David on an off-road unicycle! It is a site to be seen. Anyway, thought I would share their quilt with you.

When I go places the first thing I do is check out the quilt shops and bikes shops, not necessarily in that order. I found the little bike material in Cottonwood, Arizona. There is also a bike shop there called Zoomers Bike and Gear that is pretty nifty. Drew the bike from the material and embroidered it on the big blocks. They are all girl's bikes, except one, that's for David.
Its been cold here for us. But the worst has been the wind, 20 sustained with 35-40 mph gusts! It was a good time to stay in and do some handwork, with bikes involved of course.
Oh, and that's Maxwell. He lets us and the dogs live with him.

Message for our armed forces
I don't normally pass along forwarded messages but this one is so worthwhile that I felt that it is something that I must do.
I checked on this Xerox program ( snopes.com ) and it is valid.
XEROX IS DOING SOMETHING COOL
If you go to this web site, www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq . You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to a member of the armed services.
It is FREE and it only takes a second.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if our soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our troops need to know we are behind them.
This takes just seconds and it's a wonderful way to say thank you. Please take the time and please take the time to pass it on for others to do. We can never say enough thank yous.
Thanks for taking to time to support our military!

B-Ball!
I know that this has nothing to do with bicycles, but, when it is a high of 8 deg today with 4 inches of snow you have to think of other things. It was even too cold to go out into the garage and work on my MTB restoration I am doing.
So....
This is one of the activities that I am involved in that makes the winter seem to go by. High School Basketball! I am the JV coach and assistant to Coach Mitchell for the Varsity. My 3rd son, Matthew, is a senior and has been part of the Varsity for three years. Our season started this last week with a couple of home games.
Here I am with my JV guys

And

Here is Matt shooting free throws in the Varsity Game

Matthew and I after a opening season win for the Bobcats!

I hope that everybody has a great week!!
Stay warm!!

Saturday Breakfast ride
First off let me say, I've finally stopped shivvering long enough to type. It was a bit nippy this morning at 26 degrees with a fifteen mph wind out of the south..... just the direction I needed to go. Riding into the wind, the wind chill comes down even more. Got down the road a bit toward the highway and there is a place that has four big dogs, that absolutely hate bicyclists. Usually, only one of them manages to sqeeze through the gate opening, but the rest must have went on a diet as soon I had four big dogs chasing me down the road barking and nipping at my heels. It was so bad that a passing motorist stopped to see if he could help, but by then, I had already stopped the bike and told the dogs in no uncertain terms exactly what was going to happen to their masculinity if they didn't go home. I don't think they liked the sound of that too much, so they all went back to the house. I won that round. On the way back, only one came out to give chase, and she didn't seem to be too dismayed by my threats, although she gave up rather quickly. Other than the sparring match with the dogs, the ride was uneventful. Struggling against the wind and cold going down, and enjoying the ride back with the wind at my back, which had now picked up to around 20mph. It warmed all the way up to 30 degrees when I got home.... a regular heat wave. This morning, I wore two pair of tights, a thermal undertop, a heavy winter-weight jersy, vest, and jacket. Along with a winter weight skull cap, and balaclava, heavy winter gloves, and shoe covers and wool socks. I felt like the Michelin man on a bicycle. With a mountain bike however, style isn't as important....staying unfrozen is. There were several places where ice was present on the road, so I was glad I had the mountain bike with knobbies, as well as slow speeds and I was able to avoid any problems. A total of 34 miles down and back, and lots of excersize chasing dogs.
On-Line Bicycle Magazine
I'm sure some of you have seen this but some may not have.
Here's a pretty neat downloadable internet magazine for cyclists of all kinds. And it's FREE! A friend of mine told me about it and I've just looked over a few articles and some were pretty interesting. They talk about everything.

Security
While I was downtown Shawnee the other evening photographing the downtown area at night, I ran across this bike parked outside a Dollar General store. The first thing I noticed was the heavy locks and chains (none), the next thing I noticed was that people were walking by and not paying the least bit of attention to the bike. The third thing I have to say is that this is the norm around here......anywhere else?
Nutcracker by Bike
Have you guys seen and heard this? I love it. Be sure and listen all the way to the end and hear what they used to make it. Pretty cool.
My Ride Today
I managed to get out for a ride today . . . I rode 13.7 miles. Last year at this time we had 9 inches of snow on the ground. Today was just the opposite. It was mostly sunny, temps in the mid 40's, and almost no wind. It would be so nice if this weather could last most of the winter. I think I've gotten more riding in the past few months than I have all summer.
