"Computer tips and tricks" is the name of the group .... The manager is truly the guru of computers and very knowledgeable.
Good luck.
Try ebay for power supply for your gateway computer.
Although they sell Power supplies in many stores these may not be compatible with your PC (your motherboard). Most brand name PC's use proprietary power supplies. You need to make sure you have the correct connectors and voltages on the pins of the connectors - a task that is not easy.
Using an off the shelf power supply could damage a PC. The easiest way to proceed is call the manufacturer and order from them. Gateway, owned by Acer is in the process of discontinuing direct sales and will sell through retail outlets.
The best way to replace a power supply is to open the PC, get the product numbers off the power supply and with that any reseller can cross reference what fits.
I want to thank you guys and gals for your advice! I did find and join the Computer Tips & Tricks group and got some great advice from them as well. I also emailed Gateway Tech Support - they pointed me to a generic site that sells computer parts.
Someone from the Eons Tech group recommended another site - with more options and better pricing - and I've ordered a PS from them. The adventure continues. . . .
Thanks again, Folks!
What a knowledgeable group. I just learned a whole bunch of stuff about powersupplies that I never knew. Very cool!
