Defending Managers/Moderators

Now that I feel safe with my entrance, and not having to duck or run for safe cover I would like to add my two cents worth and respond to lightofday's posting about unfair managers and moderators...I'm not trying to add to the unfortunate circumstances that have taken place here in the last couple of days, and start another war!

Thanks AZViv for the comment on the managers and mod's who do work fairly with their members. I have a group, one that is now struggling to survive, and yes I get frustrated at times, especially when I find myself playing the role of the Lone Ranger, but my group belongs to all the members, it's their group!..Not Mine Alone! I don't play games, or care about the power of the "Delete Button"..I want everyone to enjoy themselves! I always try and treat people the way I want to be treated, by showing respect, understanding, and keeping an open mind. Granted, I have made some mistakes, and posted items that have offended people, but I will make an honest effort to please everyone and correct those mistakes when it is brought to my attention.

Being a Manager/Moderator is mostly very rewarding, but sometimes it's more like a full time job with little benefits. You can't please everyone! We all have different opinions and that's the whole point in most of these discussions. We won't always agree, or see eye to eye, but the important thing is to respect the opinions of others even when we don't agree.

Please don't throw all the Managers/Moderators in the same category. Most of us work hard to make the groups successful and not out to win a popularity contest or find importance in being the main attraction.

With that being said..if you want to throw stone, rocks, or other objects in my direction..Please do so in a respectful manner...I for one do not find pleasure in pain!

Vintage,

Finally - someone who understands! I am currently experiencing this same type of frustration within a group I manage. I try to be fair, offer encouragement for everyone to participate, and it's still like pulling teeth.

Managing a group is challenging but as you also mentioned can be rewarding. But, no ONE person should be expected to hold a group together - even the leader. It's about a collective effort, and when people sit back and lurk, frankly, it pisses me off.

I've come VERY close to shutting the group down on a few occasions. One tactic which I have been using is kicking folks out if they don't even bother to visit after 30 days. In my opinion, what's the point of joining a group if you don't even bother to drop by and see what's going on?

If I'm taking the time out of my schedule, and yes, I do hold down a full-time job, to maintain a group where people can come and interact regarding topics ranging from fun to serious, and then get mimimal response, what can you say?

I've been understanding, but even MY patience has a way of wearing out!

VV...and all the cool and dedicated managers and moderators...I am sure you saw that my post was not all directed toward any of you...it was specific to two groups that I named and the one to which I belonged...the power trips were of epic proportions in these cases and was abused...members were humiliated and mocked...it was horrific to watch and experience...I do not think anyone would argue that whenever you take a managerial role, it has lots of thankless work attached...any volunteer position I have taken that had a high level of responsibility attached to it was the same way...a majority of the managers and mods (a job I have held) are great...but, I wouldn't be ranting about the great ones...just the ones that love trouble and carry a big stick...

I'm in the same boat, trying to keep a group going, but I do realize that most people have a life outside of eons especially during the summer months. Frustrating it is when you know there are people reading posts for entertainment, but not willing to offer any effort in it's survival. I look at this way..if it survives, it's now up to the members working as a team...

Vintage,

I hear what you're saying, but when I witness groups where there are 20 + replies to posts, and then in my own group I can barely receive 4 or 5 normally, what's one to conclude? I perfectly understand that it's summertime and people have a life outside of EONS, but what about the recent responses to posts where they numbered over 150? These people evidently felt the need to reply for whatever reason. They certainly weren't in the background lurking. If I do reach the point where I begin to not care, then I think I may just close it down...how many of them would really give a damn anyway?

All I can say to this is ....AMEN and I know how you ladies feel. I've almost shut down my group for the same reasons, and even went as far as to ask the membership their opinions on keeping or going...the responses were overwhelmingly ....keeping!! So even when it seems that no one is listening or that things are not going well, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Much thanks to all who do recognize good managers/mods and the power lies in the people as a whole, if it weren't for the members there would be no groups!!!

In the year that Bold and Lustful has been open I think I may have booted 3 people. One was given parole and let back in the illustrious Mr. Wonderful. One was a total ass who disrespect almost everyone he encountered and I think one of my keepers of the crip booted Kame Aka Kissme2.

The success of B&L belongs to the mods. I am just the Bad Ass Tattooed guy who protects folk from bullies. But I have a real distaste in censorship. And don't really care if someone likes me, although I would rather laugh and joke then snarl and growl.

lightofday..I'm sorry! Almost put my foot in my mouth! I know you weren't ranting about all Managers/Moderators, and I do agree, there are some that think because they have the position..It gives them the right to to be nasty, rude, and not being considerate of others feelings.. Thing is..eventually they will be standing in an empty room!

I've only booted one member and actually it really hurt me in the long run, because the person was a good friend of mine. Unfortunately, they were in the wrong, and I was patient, and prolonged my decision, but when you have several members coming to you with complaints..you have to stand your ground and do what's right for the group as a whole, even if you lose a friendship.

and the managers thats posted so far I for one think you both do a great Job.and applaud you
but ive droped a couple ,one kinda by mistake, was really really disapointed in rp when one of the managers choice to bash a member over a post..and make it more then having fun.
and then had the balls to send pms to not only him but me and others not involved.and then went to other members and pm them and had them blasting and questioning the post where a little joke but made it so hudge that some left.and as a manager is it not somewhat like a mini business where you shown be also a peace maker if you want that group to grow.and this sweets..then sent out comments to those lets work it out...way i see it nothing to work out.I deleted this person as a friend and and will never trust again.just dont like games like that.and will not stick to groups like that.
vv.
you are whatyou say a good manager.I respect you very much for a place to have fun.and bold and lustful also.cause tatts same way.he stands for the group and the right thing.
Am wanting to get back to just haveing fun and light hearted conversation.and the members that are around to cause trouble.for others its a shame.dosnt and should never be this way...just saying my peace..of support to the managers that get hurt by the ones that are not true to thier people..thankyou and hats of to you and those thats doing it right..hang in there...Jean7
